Enshrouded Iron Ore: Location, Iron Bars and All 148 Recipes

Enshrouded Iron Ore is mined in the Kindlewastes Shroud, which you can enter once your Flame reaches Flame Level 5. At the Smelter, 10 ore and 20 Charcoal turn into 10 Iron Bars, and Flame Level 6 also takes 30 raw Iron Ore straight from your inventory.

This guide covers where to find Enshrouded Iron Ore, which tool to bring, both furnace recipes, the most important of the 148 recipes that use Iron Bars, and our own math on how much ore and wood each class needs for the Kindlewastes. Recipes and item names come from the game data database enshrouded.th.gl (version 1.0). The totals are our own calculations.

โšซ Where to find Enshrouded Iron Ore

The enshrouded.th.gl database lists exactly one mining source: the Kindlewastes Shroud. It shows no recipe and no vendor for the ore. Enshrouded Iron Ore has item level 25. The community wiki enshrouded.wiki.gg puts the Kindlewastes at levels 20 to 30, with the northern part at 20 to 25 and the southern part at 25 to 30.

Just like Tin Ore, the veins sit inside the Shroud, so your timer is running the whole time. According to the database, Flame Level 5 unlocks the Kindlewastes, raises your Shroud Passage Level to 5 and gives you 9 minutes in the Shroud. Our Shroud timer guide shows how to stretch that time.

๐Ÿ“ Mines and cave passages

The community wiki (page checked after the 1.0 launch) places the iron veins in mines and cave passages inside the Kindlewastes Shroud. It names the Ridgeback Mine plus several numbered cave passages. Cave Passage 2 has 4 veins, Cave Passage 5 has 3, and the latter comes with Fell enemies. The biome page also lists the Ternion Mine as a second mine, but doesn't tie it to iron.

Since 1.0, Keen Games' changelog says more resources show a hint in the details menu about where you can get them. To see where the Kindlewastes sit on the world map, check our Enshrouded map guide.

โš”๏ธ Iron Ore as loot

The database knows a second source. Some variants of the Scavenger drop 1 to 4 Enshrouded Iron Ore with a 51 percent chance in the Veilwater Basin. The wiki calls the enemy Scavenger Miner and lists a varying amount. That won't help you during your Kindlewastes run, though, because the Veilwater Basin comes much later.

โ›๏ธ Tools for mining Enshrouded Iron Ore

You break iron veins with a pickaxe. Neither the database nor the community wiki names a minimum pickaxe. The obvious pick is the Bronze Pickaxe from the Nomad Highlands, and our Enshrouded Tin Ore guide explains how to get Bronze. Once your first bars are ready, the Blacksmith crafts the Iron Pickaxe from 8 Iron Bars and 1 Hardwood (item level 20). None of this works without the Blacksmith, so see our Craftspeople guide first.

๐Ÿ”ฅ How to make Iron Bars: Smelter or Blast Furnace

Two furnaces turn Enshrouded Iron Ore into bars. Unlike Tin, you don't need Wood Acid. You do need twice as much fuel per bar as with Copper.

StationIngredientsOutputFuel per barTime (wiki)
Smelter10 Iron Ore, 20 Charcoal10 Iron Bars25:00
Blast Furnace20 Iron Ore, 40 Coal20 Iron Bars25:00

Unlike with Copper, the database and the community wiki agree here. Both furnaces turn one ore into one bar. The Blast Furnace doesn't save any ore, but it handles twice the amount in the same time and burns Coal instead of Charcoal.

๐Ÿงฑ Smelter and Charcoal

In the Kindlewastes you work with the Smelter, which the Blacksmith builds from 50 Fired Brick and one Crucible. Our Lump of Clay guide explains how to fire the bricks. Charcoal comes from the Charcoal Kiln, where 12 wood and 3 dirt of any type make 10 Charcoal. That means every Iron Bar costs you 2.4 Wood Logs.

๐Ÿญ The Blast Furnace comes later

The world quest "A Blast Furnace For The Blacksmith" unlocks the Blast Furnace. According to the database, it sends you to the Forge of Obsidia in the Albaneve Summits, where you grab the Bellows. The Blacksmith then builds the furnace from 20 Fired Brick, 10 Lump of Clay, 10 Iron Bars, 1 Bellows and 30 sand of any type. Extra Bellows cost 10 Conifer Logs, 10 Leather, 5 Linen and 1 Iron Bar at the Blacksmith.

Coal is also only mined in the Albaneve Summits, according to the database. Our Enshrouded Coal guide shows where.

๐Ÿงช Every recipe that uses Enshrouded Iron Ore

The database lists only three uses for the raw ore, with two furnace recipes for Iron Bars:

  • Iron Bars in the Smelter and the Blast Furnace (see above).
  • Steel Bars in the Blast Furnace: 20 Iron Ore and 40 Coal. Steel is made directly from the ore, not from Iron Bars.
  • Flame Level 6: 30 each of Iron Ore, Enshrouded Vulture Talon, Saffron, Spark, Lapislazuli and Brittle Shroud Flakes, plus the Fell Sicklescythe Head.

Flame Level 6 raises your Shroud Passage Level to 6 and your Shroud time to 10 minutes. The head drops from a boss. All upgrade costs are listed in our Flame Altar levels guide.

Steel recipe: The database, the wiki's Blast Furnace page (October 15, 2026) and its Steel Bars page (October 29, 2026) all list 40 Coal and 10:00 minutes for 20 Steel Bars. Older Early Access guides may still show different numbers.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ What you can craft with Iron Bars

The database lists 148 items that use Iron Bars. Armor and tools mostly sit at item level 20, weapons at level 21. On top of that you get around 20 iron trophies, window frames, plus crypt and prison building parts. These are the recipes that matter for progression:

๐Ÿ“Š Our math: how much Enshrouded Iron Ore you need

Every Kindlewastes shopping list starts with the Iron Pickaxe and the Iron Axe, 12 bars combined. Add a set, a weapon and, as a stockpile, the Blast Furnace with its Bellows (11 bars). The Smelter works in fixed batches of 10, so we counted full batches and added the 30 Iron Ore for Flame Level 6:

Shopping listBarsBatchesIron OreCharcoalWood Logs
Warrior: Soldier, Soldier Shield, Wailing Blade, Blast Furnace384708096
Ranger: Assassin, Draconian Bow, 100 Iron Arrows, Blast Furnace374708096
Mage: Sage, Blast Furnace293606072
Warrior without Blast Furnace273606072

For 80 Charcoal the Charcoal Kiln runs eight times, which costs 24 dirt on top of the 96 Wood Logs. Going by the wiki's craft times, four Smelter batches take 20 minutes. The real bottleneck isn't the ore. It's the wood: each Iron Ore eats 2.4 Wood Logs in the Smelter, while Copper only needs 1.2. Our Enshrouded Copper Bars guide has the comparison.

Our recommendation for your first trip into the Kindlewastes Shroud is 80 Enshrouded Iron Ore. That covers every shopping list with some spare for a second weapon. If you plan to expand your workshops, budget another 35 bars for the Mill, Water Wheel, both tool sets, Scientific Instruments and Cauldron. That works out to 40 ore and 80 Charcoal. One stack holds 250 Enshrouded Iron Ore, according to the community wiki.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for farming iron in Enshrouded

  • Stock up on wood: Bank around 100 Wood Logs before your first trip, or your Smelter will sit idle.
  • Keep some ore raw: Don't smelt everything. Flame Level 6 takes 30 raw Iron Ore, and Steel is made from the ore later on too.
  • Watch the timer: At Flame Level 5 you get 9 minutes in the Shroud. Head into the mine with an empty inventory.
  • Switch furnaces: The Blast Furnace saves you 2.4 Wood Logs per bar while the ore cost stays the same. More in our Enshrouded ore farming guide.

The next metal after iron is covered in our Enshrouded Silver Ore guide.
