Enshrouded Saffron: Kindlewastes Location, Farming and All 35 Recipes

Enshrouded Saffron grows in the Kindlewastes, where the plant sits on dry ground. You need 30 of it for Flame Level 6, plus more for Spiced Tea, Open Sandwich, yellow dyes and around two dozen decoration recipes at the Bard.

This guide covers where the plant grows in Enshrouded, how to multiply it at the Seedbed, which numbers differ between sources and how many plants you actually need for the push into the Albaneve Summits.

๐ŸŒผ What Saffron is in Enshrouded

The in-game description calls it "a rare herbal plant that can be found in hot climates", used to make golden-yellow dyes. The game data database enshrouded.th.gl lists it as a level 25 item in the Materials category. You plant it as a Saffron Seedling.

There are two figures for the stack size. The English community wiki on enshrouded.wiki.gg says 250. The German community database eprison.de still lists 50, but that entry dates back to October 2025, so it comes from Early Access.

๐Ÿ“ Location: the Kindlewastes and two rich spots

The plant belongs to the Kindlewastes, the desert region with a biome level of 20 to 30 that you enter at Flame Level 5. enshrouded.th.gl lists gathering in this biome as the only source and shows 584 spawn points on its map. The database lists no enemy drops.

๐Ÿœ๏ธ The two best farming spots

The community wiki marks two places in the Kindlewastes where large amounts grow in one spot:

  • Sunsimmer Souterrain
  • Rose Shell Burrow

Our Enshrouded map guide shows how to reach the Kindlewastes quickly and where the nearest Ancient Spire stands. A Flame Altar near one of the two spots saves you the walk back later.

๐ŸŒฑ Growing it at the Seedbed

The first time you harvest the plant, the seedling recipe unlocks at the Seedbed. eprison.de and the community wiki agree on that. You need the Farmer for the Seedbed, and the basics on soil and water are in our Enshrouded farming guide.

Both sources also agree on ingredients and output: 1 harvested plant plus 1 Fertilised Farm Soil makes 5 seedlings. They differ on water and crafting time:

SourceWaterCrafting timeAs of
eprison.de17:30 minDecember 2025
Community wiki, seedling pagenone listed3:00 minOctober 15, 2026

To be safe, keep a water source next to the Seedbed. Whatever the Seedbed shows you in game is what counts.

๐Ÿชด Soil and growth

According to the community wiki, the seedling needs Dry Ground. It grows fastest on Fertilised Farm Soil, and Sand works well too. On the regular dirt of the green regions it grows a lot slower.

Soil (community wiki)PreferenceTime to harvest
Fertilised Farm SoilPreferred32 min
Sand, Fertile Kindlewastes SandPreferred40 min
Farm Soil, Flower Soil, all "Fertile" dirt typesNeutral44 min
Nomad Highlands DirtReduced70 min
Springlands, Revelwood and Veilwater Basin DirtReduced90 min

Take these times with a grain of salt. The wiki counts two growth stages, and according to the changelog Keen Games reworked growth times with 1.0 without listing individual values. Whether the wiki numbers already match 1.0 is still open.

Per the community wiki, each fully grown plant gives 1 unit and can be harvested once. If you repot it while it's still growing, you get a seedling back instead.

๐Ÿงฎ Our math: 30 for Flame Level 6

According to enshrouded.th.gl, Flame Level 6 asks for 30 each of Enshrouded Vulture Talon, Saffron, Iron Ore, Lapislazuli and Brittle Shroud Flakes, plus 30 Sparks and a Fell Sicklescythe Head. Only after that do the Albaneve Summits open up. Every level is listed in our Flame Altar levels guide.

Since one harvest turns into five seedlings and those turn into five new plants, your stock grows by a factor of 5 per round. That gives you three ways to hit 30:

Picked in the wildGrowing roundsFertilised Farm SoilResult
300030
61630
222 + 10 = 1250

We'd go with the middle option: pick 6 plants, use 6 Fertilised Farm Soil, plant 30 seedlings. One craft of Fertilised Farm Soil covers that and gives you 10 or 15 units depending on the source. The community wiki lists 10 Sand, 10 Farm Soil, 2 Fossilized Bone Dust and 3 Nitrate. Instead of hunting down 30 plants you only need 6, then wait roughly 32 minutes for the harvest going by the wiki values.

๐Ÿฒ Food that uses it

Three dishes and one drink use the herb. Recipes and stats come from the game data on enshrouded.th.gl; differences on the community wiki are noted below the table.

DishStationIngredientsEffect
Spiced Tea (x5)Kitchen5 Saffron, 2 Spice+40 Stamina, +21 Stamina Regeneration, +1 Frost Resistance, 45 min
Open Sandwich (x5)Kitchen5 Saffron, 5 Grilled Wolf Meat, 5 Flat Bread+80 Health, +15% Melee Damage, 45 min
Strawberry Cake (x5)Kitchen5 Saffron, 5 Shortcrust Pastry Base, 10 Strawberry+60 Stamina Regeneration, +15 Health Regeneration, 7 min

The Spice for the tea comes from the Laboratory: 1 each of Saffron, Chamomile, Rooibos and Kindlewastes Flower plus 15 Shroud Sand makes 10. The community wiki doesn't list Frost Resistance on Spiced Tea; otherwise the values match. How food slots and buffs work together is covered in our Enshrouded food buffs guide.

๐ŸŽจ Dyes, fabric and building blocks

At the Coloring Station, five dyes use the material: Golden Leaf, Bright Resolve, Sediment, Harvest Festival and Liquid Light. For Golden Leaf, enshrouded.th.gl lists 2 Saffron, 1 Nitrate, 2 Lapislazuli and 1 Shadowbloom. The Coloring Station shows you the exact amounts for the other four in game.

The Hunter turns 1 Fabric and 1 Saffron into Yellow Fabric. According to enshrouded.th.gl, that goes into twelve more recipes, including six flag poles, yellow wall banners and the Warden Helmet and Warden Gloves. At the Workbench, 3 Glass, 3 Saffron and 4 Flintstone make 100 Yellow Luminescent Blocks.

๐Ÿบ Decorations at the Bard and animal food

The biggest group is decoration: five tapestries, paintings like "Wolf's Choir", "Still Life" and "Tower In The Night", the Hollow Halls banners, Jezmina's War Banner I and II, and a yellow and an orange decorative box. Per the community wiki, most paintings take 1 unit, the war banners 3 and the Giant Hollow Halls Banner 5.

For animal husbandry, the Farmer makes two kinds of feed. Dune Armadillo Food Bait (x10) takes 1 each of Saffron, Yucca Fruit, Sage Leaves and Aureolin Flower, and the community wiki adds 1 Flour. You use it to tame a Dune Armadillo. Regular Dune Armadillo Food also needs one unit according to the wiki, plus 2 Yucca Fruit and 2 Scarab, for 50 portions.

๐Ÿ’ก Farming tips

  • Gather before Flame Level 6: you're in the area for Iron Ore and Lapislazuli anyway. Where to find iron is covered in our Enshrouded Iron Ore guide.
  • Sand instead of farm soil: the community wiki rates Sand as a preferred soil, so a bed on Sand saves you Fertilised Farm Soil.
  • Always keep one back: with one plant in your chest, you can start the next round without going out to search again.

โ“ FAQ: Saffron in Enshrouded

Where do I find Saffron in Enshrouded?

Almost only in the Kindlewastes. According to the community wiki, large amounts grow at Sunsimmer Souterrain and Rose Shell Burrow.

Can you grow it?

Yes. After your first harvest you can craft five seedlings at the Seedbed from 1 plant and 1 Fertilised Farm Soil. Each plant gives one unit when harvested.

How much do I need for the Flame?

30 for Flame Level 6, according to the 1.0 game data on enshrouded.th.gl. No other Flame Level asks for it.

What's the best soil?

Fertilised Farm Soil, then Sand. Regular dirt from the green regions slows growth down a lot, according to the community wiki.

What else is it used for?

Spiced Tea, Open Sandwich and Strawberry Cake, Spice at the Laboratory, Yellow Fabric, Yellow Luminescent Blocks, five dyes and plenty of decoration recipes at the Bard.

Checked against Enshrouded 1.0 with patch 1.0.1.0 from November 2, 2026, as of November 2026. Keen Games' official changelog for that patch changes nothing about the plant, its seedlings or the recipes listed here. Recipes, effects and Flame Level 6: game data database enshrouded.th.gl, which is also the source for the spawn point count. Locations, stack size, soil times, harvest and animal food: English community wiki on enshrouded.wiki.gg. The German community database eprison.de was used as a secondary source. The growing math is our own.
