Enshrouded Craftspeople: All Survivor Locations, Quests and Best Order (2026)

Enshrouded Craftspeople: All Survivor Locations, Quests and Best Order (2026)

To unlock the Enshrouded craftspeople, you wake five sleeping survivors in Ancient Vaults and bring them to your base with the Summoning Staff: the Blacksmith, Hunter, Alchemist, Carpenter and Farmer. The best order is Blacksmith first, then Alchemist and Hunter, followed by Farmer and Carpenter, because each of them triggers the quest for the next one.

This guide covers the location, quest and crafting stations of each character, plus what makes each vault tricky. You also get the other survivors, the assistants, and how many survivors you need for the Flame Levels.

๐Ÿงญ How unlocking the Enshrouded craftspeople works

Every craftsperson in Enshrouded sleeps at the end of an Ancient Vault. You fight your way through the vault, wake the character and get the task to summon them. That doesn't happen on the spot but in your base: with the Summoning Staff, you call the survivor inside the build area of a Flame Altar.

Only there do they start working for you. Each character brings their own crafting stations that you can build afterward, and further quests unlock more stations. Community guides recommend giving every character a roof over their head; one shared house is enough.

The location descriptions follow the Gamer Guides walkthrough and the community wiki on wiki.gg. The map marks each vault once the matching quest is active. According to Gamer Guides, you can also enter the vaults before the quest if your level matches the enemies.

โš’๏ธ Blacksmith Oswald Anders: your first craftsperson

The Blacksmith is the first one you can unlock, through the main quest "Find The Sleeping Survivor". His vault sits in the Springlands not far from the starting point, north of the main bridge and south of the region's big tower. Inside, you'll meet level 1 Scavengers and a hidden button for a secret door. The quest leads you through a short stretch of Shroud and explains the basics along the way.

The Blacksmith crafts and upgrades armor and melee weapons. With him, you unlock the Charcoal Kiln, Forge and Smelter. You get the Smithing Tools through the quest "The Blacksmith's Request", and the Blast Furnace comes later. His daughter Rochelle Anders can join you later as his assistant.

๐Ÿงช Alchemist Balthazar: potions and magic

You unlock the Alchemist through the quest "Powerful Alchemy". His vault lies on the western mountainside of the Springlands. According to Gamer Guides, level 3 Scavengers with crossbows and mortars wait there, which makes it noticeably harder than the Blacksmith's vault. Go once you've gained a few levels.

Balthazar brews potions and crafts armor for mages. His stations are the Mortar, Grinding Stones, Alchemy Station, Laboratory and Mill, plus the water wheels and windmill sails that power the Mill. Important for your order: the Alchemist remembers another vault and starts the quest for the Carpenter.

๐Ÿน Hunter Athalan Skree: ranged combat and fabrics

You unlock the Hunter with the quest "Hunter Becomes The Hunted". Her vault lies east of the Ancient Spire in the Springlands. You have to get past electric traps, activate three switches and defeat level 3 Vukah.

Athalan Skree makes arrows, ranged armor and survival gear. With her, you unlock the Drying Rack, Hand Spindle, Tanning Station, Spinning Wheel, Loom and Spinning Machine. You recover her lost Hand Spindle in a separate quest in Revelwood near Westcott. The Hunter also gives you the quest for the Farmer.

๐Ÿชš Carpenter Cade Hawthorn: the hardest path

The Carpenter is the only one of the five whose vault lies almost entirely inside the Shroud. You get the quest "Carpentry Assistance" from the Alchemist, and it rewards 1,000 XP. The vault is in the Low Meadows, southwest of the local tower. Gamer Guides lists Flame Level 2 as a requirement and level 7 enemies.

Inside the vault, the path leads through a cave full of bugs whose nests you should destroy, then past flying enemies to a pile of rubble. You break it open with a pickaxe or bombs. How to raise your Flame Level for this vault is explained in our guide to the Enshrouded Flame Altar levels.

Cade Hawthorn makes everything out of wood: chests, furniture, decorations and gliders. With him, you unlock the Kiln and Table Saw. You get the Masonry Tools through the quest "Finding Masonry Tools" in the Pillars of Creation. His aunt Braelyn can join you later as his assistant.

๐ŸŒพ Farmer Emily Fray: food and farming

You unlock the Farmer with the quest "Growing Stronger Together", which the Hunter gives you. Her vault lies northwest of the Ancient Spire in the Springlands, right before the transition to Revelwood. Inside, you face three switches, electric traps, spike traps and metal railings to climb. This quest also rewards 1,000 XP.

Emily Fray cooks and teaches you farming and animal husbandry. Her stations include the Seedbed, Cooking Station, Oven and Beehive. Further quests add the Beehive Smoker, the Almanac of Plants and Seedlings, the Coffee Drum Roaster, the Coffee Brewery and the Seafood Grill.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ The best order for the craftspeople

In Enshrouded, the order almost sorts itself out because the quests build on each other. If you know the chain, you can still plan ahead:

  1. Blacksmith: easiest vault, brings the Smelter and better tools.
  2. Alchemist: healing potions and the quest for the Carpenter.
  3. Hunter: ranged combat, backpacks and the quest for the Farmer.
  4. Farmer: food with buffs for longer trips.
  5. Carpenter: only with Flame Level 2 and enough healing potions.

Getting the Farmer before the Carpenter has a practical reason: her vault is outside the Shroud, and good food helps you afterward in the Carpenter's fog-filled vault. More on lasting longer in the fog is in our guide to the Shroud timer. Guides agree that you should start with the Blacksmith, because his quest explains the basic mechanics.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Other survivors and assistants

The Enshrouded community wiki splits survivors into three types: craftspeople, assistants and villagers. Besides the five core characters, other survivors include:

  • Alden Crowley the Collector makes mystical furniture and special food.
  • Valory the Bard carves musical instruments.
  • Elio Ricci is the Barber and changes your appearance.
  • Captain Melville Fontane offers fishing gear.

Assistants are extra copies of a craftsperson with the same recipes as the original. That lets you run the same station at a second base. Confirmed examples include Rochelle Anders for the Blacksmith and Aunt Braelyn for the Carpenter. Villagers are mostly decoration and hand out small side quests.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Why you need more than five survivors

The craftspeople in Enshrouded are more than workbenches. From Flame Level 3 onward, the Flame Altar requires a minimum number of rescued survivors: two for level 3, four for level 4, six for level 5 and up to 14 for level 9. With just the five core characters, you won't get past level 4.

By level 5 at the latest, you need more survivors like the Collector or the assistants. The community wiki doesn't break down exactly which types count. So rescue every survivor as soon as you find them, even if you don't need their station yet. Every character you unlock early saves you a detour later.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for the Enshrouded craftspeople

  • One base for everyone: summon them all in the same build area, so stations and chests are close together.
  • Co-op shares progress: whatever you unlock belongs to the world. How that works with friends and your own server is covered in our co-op and dedicated server guide.
  • Don't skip tool quests: Smithing Tools, the Hand Spindle and the Masonry Tools each bring new recipes.
  • Console: the characters are the same on PC and PS5. Only the group size differs: up to 16 players on PC, up to 8 on PS5.

๐Ÿ“Œ Current state and outlook on 1.0

Enshrouded has been in Early Access since January 24, 2024. Keen Games has announced version 1.0 for October 15, 2026, on PC and PS5, with the Xbox version scheduled for spring 2027. Co-op supports up to 16 players on PC; on PS5, the PlayStation Store lists up to 8 online players. Quests, locations and stations may still change with 1.0; everything here applies to the current Early Access state.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions about Enshrouded craftspeople

How many craftspeople can I unlock in Enshrouded?
Five core characters: Blacksmith, Alchemist, Hunter, Carpenter and Farmer. On top of that come other survivors like the Collector, Bard, Barber and Captain, as well as assistants.

Which craftsperson should I unlock first?
The Blacksmith, Oswald Anders. His vault is the easiest, and the main quest takes you to him first anyway.

How do I get the characters into my base?
You wake them in their Ancient Vault and then summon them with the Summoning Staff inside the build area of your Flame Altar.

Why can't I unlock the Carpenter?
The quest "Carpentry Assistance" only starts once you've unlocked the Alchemist. The Carpenter's vault lies almost entirely inside the Shroud, so plan for Flame Level 2.

Who gives the quest for the Farmer?
The Hunter, Athalan Skree. She knows where the Farmer's vault is and starts the quest "Growing Stronger Together".

Do the craftspeople count for the Flame Altar?
Yes, they're among your rescued survivors. From Flame Level 5 onward, the five alone are no longer enough, and you need more survivors.

Checked against Keen Games' official announcements and established community databases: the English community wiki on wiki.gg for stations and Flame Altar values, plus Gamer Guides for the locations. As of: October 8, 2026.
