Enshrouded Lump of Clay: Location, Fired Brick and Every Workshop
Enshrouded Lump of Clay comes from orange-brown clay deposits in the Revelwood. According to the game data database enshrouded.th.gl, the material shows up in 57 recipes, including the Kiln, Blast Furnace, Athanor, Mortar and Mill.
This guide covers where to find clay, which workshops need it and how much to stockpile for a full workshop build-out. Our own math at the end lands on 225 Lump of Clay once you count the Fired Brick.
๐ Where to find Lump of Clay in Enshrouded
enshrouded.th.gl lists a single source region: the Revelwood. The English community wiki enshrouded.wiki.gg describes the deposits as large clumps of orange-brown mud that are common in the Revelwood. Older player guides from Early Access suggest checking hillsides and large rock formations.
Per the community wiki, the Revelwood is a level 10 to 15 region that needs flame level 3. Lump of Clay is item level 13, so it fits right into that stretch of the game. For the region layout and how to get there, see our Flame Altar levels guide.

โ๏ธ Mining clay with a pickaxe
Player guides say you mine clay with a pickaxe, the same way you mine stone and ore. Neither the database nor the community wiki lists a minimum pickaxe tier. Neither source lists enemy drops, chest loot or a vendor that sells it.
A practical tip: grab a big batch while you are in the Revelwood anyway. Plenty of workshops need clay, and the database lists no clay source in later regions.
๐งฑ Fired Brick: where most of your clay goes
The key intermediate is Fired Brick. According to the community wiki, the Carpenter fires 1 Lump of Clay and 1 piece of any wood into 1 Fired Brick in the Kiln, and each batch takes 30 seconds. The database accepts Wood Logs, Hardwood and several other log types as fuel.
The crafting chain on enshrouded.th.gl matches: 20 bricks cost 20 clay and 20 Wood Logs. The database lists Fired Brick in 14 items. The big ones are the Smelter at 50 bricks and the Laboratory at 40.
The Kiln itself also takes clay. The Carpenter builds it from 50 Revelwood Stone, 10 clay, 10 Metal Scraps and 2 Twigs, so you need your first ten lumps before you can fire a single brick.
โ๏ธ Every workshop that uses Lump of Clay
The table lists the workshops and upgrades that need clay directly or through Fired Brick. All recipes come from enshrouded.th.gl. The Blast Furnace, Oven and brick recipes also match the community wiki.
| Workshop | Craftsperson | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Kiln | Carpenter | 50 Revelwood Stone, 10 clay, 10 Metal Scraps, 2 Twigs |
| Blast Furnace | Blacksmith | 20 Fired Brick, 1 Bellows, 10 clay, 10 Iron Bars, 30 Sand |
| Crucible | Blacksmith | 3 clay, 3 Springlands Dirt, 5 Sand |
| Smelter | Blacksmith | 50 Fired Brick, 1 Crucible |
| Athanor | Alchemist | 10 Glass, 10 Bronze Bars, 5 clay |
| Laboratory | Alchemist | 40 Fired Brick, 1 Athanor, 1 Scientific Instruments, 10 Copper Bars, 3 Glass |
| Mortar | Alchemist | 10 clay, 3 Sulfur, 2 Nitrate, 5 Charcoal, 5 Sand |
| Mill | Alchemist | 30 Wood Planks, 20 Shell Limestone, 10 clay, 10 Iron Bars, 1 Improved Millstone |
| Tanning Station | Hunter | 10 Wood Planks, 4 Nails, 10 clay, 10 Tar |
| Oven | Farmer | 20 Fired Brick, 5 clay, 5 Metal Sheets |
| Butter Churn | Farmer | 10 Wood Planks, 5 clay, 5 Metal Sheets |
| Beehive Smoker | Farmer | 3 clay, 3 String, 2 Sand |
| Beehive | Farmer | 4 Wood Logs, 20 Straw, 4 clay |
For every Sand slot, the database accepts Sand, Fine Sand, Veilwater Basin Sand or Cinder's Cradle Sand. The Alchemy Station also uses Fired Brick, 20 of them according to the community wiki.
๐ฅ Blast Furnace and Smelter for metalwork
The Blacksmith can't build the Blast Furnace or the Smelter without clay. The Blast Furnace takes ten lumps directly plus 20 bricks. The Smelter, which the database says the Blacksmith uses to smelt and coat metals, needs 50 bricks and a Crucible. That adds up to 53 clay, more than any other single workshop.
๐งช Athanor, Laboratory and Mill for the Alchemist
The Athanor is an ingredient of the Laboratory. It costs 5 clay, and the Laboratory adds another 40 bricks on top. If you want to expand the Alchemist, budget 45 clay for this chain.
The Mill grinds materials into powder according to the community wiki and needs a power source such as a water wheel nearby. It costs 10 clay plus Shell Limestone, Iron Bars and an Improved Millstone.
๐ Farmer: Oven, Butter Churn and bees
The database describes the Oven as a significant upgrade to the Cooking Station, and its recipes include Flat Bread and Shortcrust Pastry Base. The Butter Churn makes buttermilk and butter. The Beehive Smoker unlocks the Beehive, which produces wax and honey. Which meals are worth it is covered in our food buffs guide.
๐ฆ Ammo and decorations with clay
Two ammo recipes use clay. The Hunter crafts 25 Explosive Arrow I from 25 Flint Arrow, 10 Tar and 5 clay. The Black Powder Ball needs 1 clay, 1 Plant Fiber, 1 Iron Bars and 2 Black Powder according to the community wiki.
Most of the 57 recipes are decorations, though: clay vases, clay pots, cups, bowls, jugs, planters, the Clay Fireplace, three Decorative Ovens and several roof tile and building blocks. According to the community wiki, most of the pottery costs only 1 or 2 lumps plus some wood. Decorate a lot and you will still burn through a full stack fast. For base layout tips, see our base building guide.
๐ก Our math: 225 Lump of Clay for every workshop
We added up the clay for all workshops in the table, counting each Fired Brick as 1 clay. Decorations, ammo and the non-brick part of the Alchemy Station are not included.
| Build | Clay direct | Bricks | Clay total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kiln | 10 | 0 | 10 |
| Alchemy Station | 0 | 20 | 20 |
| Crucible and Smelter | 3 | 50 | 53 |
| Blast Furnace | 10 | 20 | 30 |
| Athanor and Laboratory | 5 | 40 | 45 |
| Mortar | 10 | 0 | 10 |
| Tanning Station | 10 | 0 | 10 |
| Mill | 10 | 0 | 10 |
| Oven | 5 | 20 | 25 |
| Beehive Smoker and Beehive | 7 | 0 | 7 |
| Butter Churn | 5 | 0 | 5 |
| Total | 75 | 150 | 225 |
Two thirds of your clay ends up as bricks. Those 150 bricks also cost 150 wood and, on paper, 75 minutes of firing time with a single Kiln. One full stack of 250 covers the whole build-out with some left over for decorating.
If you only need a few workshops, you need far less. The Blast Furnace and Smelter together take 83 clay, the Athanor and Laboratory 45. Build the Kiln first either way, or you will have no bricks. Where to find each craftsperson is in our craftspeople guide.
