Enshrouded Fossilized Bone: Locations, Flame Level 5 and All 31 Recipes

Enshrouded Fossilized Bone is mined from giant fossils in the Nomad Highlands and the Kindlewastes. The material is item level 18, goes into 31 items and is part of Flame Level 5, which alone asks for 20 of it.

This guide covers where the big skeletons are, what you need to mine them, which recipes call for the material and how much you should collect for each goal. Recipes and amounts come from the game data database enshrouded.th.gl. We did the totals ourselves.

๐Ÿฆด Where to find Fossilized Bone in Enshrouded

The game data database lists giant fossils as the only source and doesn't name a biome. The English community wiki enshrouded.wiki.gg (last edited October 29, 2026) places the deposits in two regions: the Nomad Highlands (region level 15 to 20) and the Kindlewastes (level 20 to 30). Item level 18 fits the Nomad Highlands exactly.

The database shows no vendor and no crafting recipe for the raw material itself. Mining is the only way to get it. Our Enshrouded map guide shows where both regions sit.

๐Ÿ“ Nomad Highlands: the rib cage west of the Ancient Spire

The community wiki and several English guides agree on the easiest spot: a giant fossilized rib cage just west of the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire. According to Gamer Guides, once the spire is unlocked you can glide west from the top and land right on the skeleton. If you haven't reached the spire yet, you can get there through the Shroud on the northern side of the region.

๐Ÿ“ Kindlewastes: three more spots

Sportskeeda describes three deposits in the Kindlewastes: one north of the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire, a smaller one west of it and a large one in the south of the region. Gamer Guides adds that breakable vases near the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire can drop the material. Both sites date from Early Access, the Gamer Guides version from May 2024. These are community reports we couldn't check against the 1.0 game data.

According to the Enshrouded 1.0 changelog, Keen Games reworked the terrain, vegetation and forest density of the Nomad Highlands and rebuilt the transition into the Kindlewastes. The big skeletons are landmarks and, as of the wiki in late October 2026, are still in place. Check the smaller spots in person before you plan a fixed route.

โ›๏ธ Tools and requirements

You mine the skeletons with a pickaxe. Neither the game data database nor the community wiki names a minimum pickaxe, and the English guides don't give a tier either. So we won't prescribe one. The obvious pick is the Copper Pickaxe, since you already mine copper in the Revelwood. Our guide to ore farming by biome shows where the ores are.

The real gate is the Flame. Flame Level 4 opens the Nomad Highlands and needs, among other things, 15 Amber. The Kindlewastes follow with Flame Level 5, and that is exactly the level that wants 20 pieces from the Highlands. All costs are listed in our Flame Altar levels guide.

๐Ÿงช What the material is used for

The database lists 31 items plus Flame Level 5. Most recipes sit with the Hunter and the Blacksmith. For weapons with several levels, only the level 16 recipe uses the material. The other levels call for different resources.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Flame Level 5: 20 pieces

The single biggest cost: Flame Level 5 takes 20 each of Mint Mushroom Meat, Fossilized Bone, Ammonia Gland, Tin Ore and Rooibos, plus 20 Spark and the Fell Monstrosity Head. Our Enshrouded Tin Ore guide shows where to find the tin.

*We couldn't confirm the English name of these level 15 boots. Hunter Boots and Plaguebringer Boots also need Leather, Shroud Adhesive and Acidic Mycelium. According to the database, you make Leather at the Tanning Station. For the Warlock Pants the database lists just one piece. That looks low, but the community wiki shows the same value.

*We couldn't confirm the English name of this shield either. We couldn't open the Hailscourge page in the database, so the value of 3 comes from the community wiki. The database lists the Bow of the Serpent under the Lunar New Year Trader. Whether she is available permanently isn't clear from it.

๐Ÿงต Workshops, spells and ammo

Three Hunter workshops need the material: the Loom (5 pieces plus wood, Linen, Nails and Bronze), the Spinning Wheel (3) and the Hand Spindle (3). At the Alchemist, Eternal Chain Heal I costs 10 pieces, along with 10 Tin Bars and 10 Antiseptic. The Hunter makes Fossilized Bone Arrows from 5 pieces, 10 Twigs and 5 Feathers, and each batch yields 50 arrows. The Farmer turns 2 pieces and 3 Mycelium into the Mycelium building material.

๐ŸŒพ Fossilized Bone Dust

A big share of the use is indirect. At the Mill or the Grinding Stones you grind the material into Fossilized Bone Dust. According to the database, the dust goes into another 39 items: chest pieces, gloves, spells, building materials and seedlings such as bell pepper, wheat and rooibos. Per the community wiki, one piece gives 5 dust in 5 minutes at the Mill and 3 dust in 10 minutes at the Grinding Stones.

One conflict: the community wiki lists the Seedbed seedlings among the uses of the raw material itself. The game data database assigns them to the dust. We follow the database. If in doubt, the Seedbed in game shows the ingredient.

๐Ÿ“Š Our math: how much you need

We added up every direct recipe, each one once. The dust counts as one piece, its 39 follow-up recipes don't.

A normal playthrough needs less. Flame Level 5 and the three workshops together cost 31 pieces. The two affected pieces of a level 15 set (Guardian, Blackguard or Mercenary) cost 6 each, and a level 16 weapon costs between 2 and 5. All eight weapons add up to 26.

For ammo, look at the cost per shot: 5 pieces give 50 arrows, so a tenth of a piece per arrow. A stock of 200 arrows costs 20 pieces, the same as Flame Level 5. If you play a Ranger build, plan for this early. Arrows get used up, while armor and workshops are a one-time cost.

For dust, the Mill wins: it gets 5 instead of 3 dust from each piece, which is two thirds more. For 30 dust you need 6 pieces at the Mill and 10 at the Grinding Stones. Our pick for the first trip to the skeleton is 50 pieces. That covers the Flame, the workshops, one set and one weapon, and leaves about 10 for dust. A stack holds 250, per the community wiki.

๐Ÿ’ก Farming tips

  • Plan the other ingredients: Besides the material, Flame Level 5 needs 20 each of Tin Ore, Rooibos, Mint Mushroom Meat and Ammonia Gland. Gather them on the same run.
  • Glide, don't walk: From the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire you can reach the big skeleton in one glide.
  • Build the Mill first: Grinding early at the Grinding Stones throws away 40 percent of the dust.
  • Smash vases: According to Gamer Guides, vases near the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire can contain the material.

๐Ÿ“Œ Status and sources

Checked against Enshrouded version 1.0.1.0 (Patch #1 from November 2, 2026) as of November 2026. The Patch #1 changelog contains no change to fossils, the Mill or the Grinding Stones.
