You make Enshrouded Reptile Leather at the Drying Rack from 1 Reptile Hide and 3 Salt, and one run gives you 3 pieces. The hide drops from the Snapjaws in the Blackmire. Twelve recipes use the leather, from the Medium Backpack to a batch of level 10 armor.
There's also a second leather for the late game. Water Reptile Leather from the Veilwater Basin goes into 14 level 40 recipes. This guide covers where both come from, how to craft them and every recipe that uses them. We also did the math on how many hides a full set really costs.

Don't mix up the two materials in each column. Reptile Hide is the raw drop, and Reptile Leather is what comes off the rack. Levels, ingredients and recipe lists come from the game data database enshrouded.th.gl, which reads its values from the game files. Keen Games' official 1.0 patch notes don't mention leather or the Drying Rack, so there's no developer source with numbers for this material.
๐ Where to get Reptile Hide for Enshrouded Reptile Leather
No hide, no Enshrouded Reptile Leather. According to enshrouded.th.gl, exactly one creature drops it: a reptile the database lists internally as "Crocodile". The English community wiki calls it the Snapjaw.
The database counts 55 spawn points for these creatures: 34 in the Blackmire and 21 in the Veilwater Basin. It lists Reptile Hide as obtainable in the Blackmire and Water Reptile Hide in the Veilwater Basin. So for regular Enshrouded Reptile Leather, you head to the Blackmire, the swampy part of Revelwood.
According to the community wiki, Snapjaws live in the mud and tar pits of the Blackmire and can't leave them. After an attack they dive into the mud and can't be damaged until they resurface. Waiting at the edge of the pit works better than jumping in after them. Where the Blackmire sits and what level it expects is covered in our Enshrouded map guide.
โ๏ธ Drop rate: database and wiki disagree
The sources don't agree on the amount. enshrouded.th.gl gives the Snapjaw a 100 percent chance for 1 Reptile Hide, plus Bones at 60 percent for 1 to 3 pieces. The English community wiki (page last edited in February 2026, so before 1.0) lists 0 to 1 hide instead. If in doubt, plan for a few more kills than the table further down suggests.
๐ง Crafting Enshrouded Reptile Leather at the Drying Rack
The Drying Rack belongs to the Hunter. According to the database, it costs 10 Wood Logs and 6 String, which you spin from Plant Fiber at the Spinning Wheel. The database recommends placing it near the Hunter. How to rescue her is in our Enshrouded craftspeople guide.
The recipe for Enshrouded Reptile Leather is simple: 1 Reptile Hide and 3 Salt make 3 Reptile Leather. Water Reptile Leather works the same way with Water Reptile Hide. The community wiki lists a crafting time of one minute and a stack size of 250. Both values date from before 1.0. Keen sped up many workshop recipes according to the changelog, so the time may be shorter now.
Salt is the bottleneck a lot of players underestimate. Every hide needs 3 of it. According to enshrouded.th.gl, skeletons drop 1 to 2 Salt, and the database also lists it in the Springlands Shroud. Stock up before you go farming hides for Enshrouded Reptile Leather in the Blackmire.

๐น Which class benefits?
Ranged players (Ranger) and dagger users (Cutthroat, with +9% dagger damage on the gloves) each get three pieces from the Hunter. Melee fighters get the Adventurer Helmet, Adventurer Gloves and the Tank Chestplate from the Blacksmith. Mages and healers each get a pair of boots from the Alchemist. The second leather belongs to the late game. The database lists it at item level 40, and the hide comes from the Snapjaws in the Veilwater Basin. The community wiki also lists Water Reptile Hide at level 40 with the Veilwater Basin as its source. All 14 recipes come from enshrouded.th.gl:

Almost all of these pieces also need Capybara Bristles, and many need 50 Pink Mushroom Meat on top. The Swimfins are epic and give you, among other things, 30 percent more sprint speed while diving. According to the database they cost 6 Palm Leaves, 4 Water Reptile Leather, 10 Gold Coins and 4 Paper Reed. Gold Coins are a new resource added with 1.0, according to the changelog.

Since one run always gives 3 leather, the totals are worth a look. We added up every amount from the recipe tables and divided by three:

Regular leather is done quickly. Everything that uses Enshrouded Reptile Leather takes 6 Reptile Hides and 18 Salt. With the database's 100 percent drop rate, that's 6 Snapjaws in the Blackmire. Go by the wiki's 0 to 1 hide instead, with half a hide per kill on average, and you're closer to 12.
Water Reptile Leather is a different story. A single level 40 set like Bloodfeather already costs 15 leather, so 5 hides. All 14 recipes together need 18 hides and 54 Salt, which by the wiki's numbers can mean up to 36 kills. Plan your Salt supply before you head into the Veilwater Basin.

- Salt first, swamp second: 3 Salt per hide adds up fast, so farm skeletons before you go.
- Keep your hides: According to the database, Reptile Hide has exactly one recipe, and that's Reptile Leather.
- Backpack first: 6 Enshrouded Reptile Leather for 24 extra slots is the best trade this material offers.
- Stay at the edge of the pit: According to the community wiki, Snapjaws can't leave their pit.
- Grab the Bones: They drop with a 60 percent chance, and the Cutthroat Trousers need them.
An older version of the community wiki also lists the Pocket Heater as a use. In the current recipe lists on enshrouded.th.gl it doesn't show up under Reptile Hide or Reptile Leather, so we left it out of the table.
