- โ Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal FAQ
You mine the Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal in the Hagga Rift, mostly inside its underground mining facilities, and you need at least a Cutteray Mk2 for it. A Chemical Refinery turns it into Cobalt Paste, which goes into more than 200 recipes, from the Cutteray Mk3 to the Buggy.
That makes Erythrite one of the first real bottlenecks once you leave the starting area. Below are the locations, mining values, both refinery recipes and a calculation of how many crystals your first Buggy actually eats. Since players often mix it up with the other crystal in the game, Jasmium gets a short section too.
๐ Two Crystals, Two Tiers
The database dune.gaming.tools, which reads its values from the Dune Awakening game files, lists exactly two crystals among the raw resources. They sit two material tiers apart and go into different refineries:
| Erythrite Crystal | Jasmium Crystal | |
|---|---|---|
| Tier | 3 | 5 |
| Found in | Hagga Rift | Sheol (irradiated) |
| Mined with | Cutteray Mk2 | Cutteray Mk4 |
| Processed into | Cobalt Paste (Chemical Refinery) | Duraluminum Ingot (Ore Refinery) |
| Volume / stack | 0.4 / 500 | 0.4 / 500 |
The item text keeps it short: "Crystal from Erythrite deposits." Some guides just call it Erythrite, and the in-game deposits are Erythrite deposits, so both names point to the same thing.
๐ Where to Find the Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal: the Hagga Rift
The item description is clear: the crystal is mined from an Erythrite deposit in the Hagga Rift. The game doesn't name any other mining area for the Erythrite Crystal. According to the community wiki awakening.wiki, most deposits sit inside the Rift's CHOAM Mineral Extraction Facilities. More are near the facility entrances, in caves and scattered across the canyon.
You can spot Erythrite deposits by their color. The wiki describes the crystals as deep red with a faint pulse, while Beebom talks about pink deposits on the tunnel walls. The German site Mein-MMO points you to the extraction facilities on the middle levels of the canyon, where you can see the red crystals from some distance.
Getting There and What to Bring
The guides disagree on the way in. Beebom places the tunnels north of Jabal Eifrit Al-janub. Sportskeeda says to enter from the eastern side of the Vermillius Gap through the Riftwatch entry point, with crashed ornithopters as a landmark. Both come from community guides and aren't confirmed by Funcom.
method.gg describes the facilities as multi-level and dark. Bring a light, take a Suspensor Belt for the levels, and ride a Sandbike rather than a Buggy, because the four-seater is a pain in the tight floors.
The same site also mentions Erythrite in some Deep Desert caves. That's a community claim the game data doesn't back up. Where the Rift sits on the world map is in our Dune Awakening map guide. If you want to check the Deep Desert yourself, the weekly filters are covered in our Deep Desert map guide.
๐ฆ Which Cutteray Mines the Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal?
In Dune Awakening, the Erythrite Crystal shares its mining values with carbon. That's why the Cutteray Mk2 is enough, made from 10 Iron Ingots and 7 EMF Generators according to the database. The efficiency values come from the community wiki. Where the database lists a comparison value, such as 112 for the Buggy Cutteray Mk3, the two match:
| Tool | Erythrite | Tool | Erythrite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cutteray Mk2 | 45 | Buggy Cutteray Mk3 | 112 |
| Cutteray Mk3 | 60 | Buggy Cutteray Mk4 | 168 |
| Cutteray Mk4 | 90 | Buggy Cutteray Mk5 | 243 |
| Cutteray Mk5 | 130 | Buggy Cutteray Mk6 | 318 |
| Cutteray Mk6 | 170 |
There's a small trap here. The Cutteray Mk3 itself costs 10 Cobalt Paste. So your first 30 crystals have to come from the Mk2, or you're stuck. If you still need carbon for steel first, the full chain is in our steel guide.
๐งช How to Make Cobalt Paste from the Erythrite Crystal
In Dune Awakening, Cobalt Paste is the only product made from the Erythrite Crystal. The database lists two recipes, and the community wiki shows the same values:
| Station | Erythrite Crystal | Water | Time | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small Chemical Refinery | 3 | 75 | 15 s | 1 Cobalt Paste |
| Medium Chemical Refinery | 2 | 75 | 10 s | 1 Cobalt Paste |
According to the database, the Small Chemical Refinery costs only 45 Copper Ingots and 15 power. The medium one wants 150 Duraluminum Ingots, 75 Silicone Blocks and 40 Complex Machinery at 350 power. It no longer needs Spice Melange since Update 1.5, as the official patch notes confirm.
A hauling detail: Funcom halved Cobalt Paste volume from 1.0 to 0.5 in patch 1.1.25.0, and the database shows 0.5. Three crystals weigh in at 1.2, the paste you get from them only 0.5. If you refine in a small refinery close to the Rift, you save almost 60 percent of your cargo space. The wiki page for the paste still shows the old value.
๐ The Cutteray Chain, Counted in Crystals
The second demand many players underestimate is their own tool. According to the database, the Cutteray Mk3 costs 10 Cobalt Paste, the Mk4 11 and the Mk5 12. Build all three tiers in a row and you need 33 paste, so 99 Erythrite Crystals in the small refinery.
The Mk2 mines at 45 per pass, the Mk3 already at 60. If you assume efficiency turns directly into yield, the Mk3 saves you a quarter of the time at every deposit. That's an assumption, since the database doesn't give a conversion. The order is clear either way: first 30 crystals with the Mk2, then upgrade right away.
๐งฎ How Many Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystals Your First Buggy Eats
The database counts 238 recipes with Cobalt Paste (page version 1.4.10.0), the wiki 210. Our own math from the database recipes shows where the crystals go. It's based on the complete Buggy Mk3 from our Buggy guide with 81 paste, the Buggy Cutteray Mk3 with 17 and the Buggy Storage Mk3 with 9:
| Goal | Cobalt Paste | Crystals (small) | Crystals (medium) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cutteray Mk3 | 10 | 30 | 20 |
| Buggy Mk3 with Cutteray and Storage | 107 | 321 | 214 |
| Medium Ore Refinery | 45 | 135 | 90 |
| Spice Refinery | 60 | 180 | 120 |
| Large Spice Refinery | 825 | 2,475 | 1,650 |
The paste for the Buggy package alone costs 8,025 water, no matter which refinery you run. The Large Spice Refinery is the real monster in the Dune Awakening endgame: on its own it swallows more Cobalt Paste than seven fully equipped Buggies.
The math also shows when the medium station pays off. It saves one crystal per paste, so 107 crystals on the Buggy package. But since it costs 150 Duraluminum Ingots, you'll realistically build it in the Duraluminum phase. Until then, the small one does the job.
๐ฐ Contracts, Vendors and Selling
According to the database, no vendor sells the Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal. Instead, Aliza DeCastille in Hagga Basin offers two delivery contracts:
- Erythrite delivery, 50 crystals: 1,500 Solaris and 150 XP
- Erythrite delivery, 100 crystals: 2,000 Solaris and 150 XP
The small contract pays 30 Solaris per crystal, the large one only 20. The base vendor price is 15 Solaris according to the community wiki. If you have the choice, take the 50. On the Atreides side, Lieutenant Anton Tolliver also sends you after Erythrite in one of his contracts, paying 1,500 Solaris and 50 reputation.
Finished Cobalt Paste is sold by the Landsraad Crafting Vendor for 20 House Scrip each, with no stock limit, according to the database. If you have Scrip to spare, that saves you the trip to the Rift. More ways to make money are in our Solaris farming guide.
โข๏ธ Jasmium: the Other Crystal
Unlike the Dune Awakening Erythrite Crystal, Jasmium isn't found in the Rift. It sits in irradiated Sheol in the southwest of Hagga Basin. It needs the Cutteray Mk4 and a Radiation Suit, and it goes into Duraluminum Ingots. Recipes, radiation math and vendors are in our Duraluminum guide.
The link between the two crystals is direct: the Cutteray Mk4 you need for Jasmium costs 11 Cobalt Paste itself. Without an Erythrite stockpile, you don't get to Sheol.
