Dune Awakening Plastanium Guide: Recipe, Water Cost and Refineries

To make Dune Awakening Plastanium you need three things at once: Titanium Ore, Stravidium Fiber and a lot of water. The Medium Ore Refinery turns 6 Titanium Ore, 1 Stravidium Fiber and 1,250 ml of water into one Plastanium Ingot in 30 seconds. The Large Ore Refinery needs only 4 Titanium Ore and 20 seconds for the same ingot, but exactly the same amount of water. That's where most bases stall. You can save on titanium. You can't save on water.

Plastanium is the alloy the endgame runs on. Vehicle parts, tier 6 armor, advanced fabricators: the ingot shows up in the ingredient list everywhere, sometimes in triple digits per item. And since both Titanium Ore and Stravidium come only from the Deep Desert, your whole production chain depends on trips into a zone that reshuffles every week.

โš—๏ธ Dune Awakening Plastanium recipe: both refineries compared

Plastanium comes out of the ore refinery, not the chemical refinery. Exactly two stations can make the ingot, and they only differ in titanium and time:

StationTitanium OreStravidium FiberWaterTimeOutput
Medium Ore Refinery611,250 ml30 s1 Plastanium Ingot
Large Ore Refinery411,250 ml20 s1 Plastanium Ingot

Stravidium Fiber is its own intermediate step and comes from the Medium Chemical Refinery: 3 Stravidium Mass plus 100 ml of water make one fiber in 10 seconds. Count that step in and a single Plastanium Ingot costs you 1,350 ml of water: 1,250 ml in the ore refinery plus 100 ml in the chemical refinery.

Power draw is the second cost people underestimate. The Medium Ore Refinery pulls 45 power, the Large Ore Refinery 350 and the Medium Chemical Refinery another 350. Run both large stations side by side and you need a power grid well beyond a few solar panels. Our base building guide covers location, power and water in detail.

๐Ÿœ๏ธ Where Titanium Ore and Stravidium come from

Both raw materials share the same location, and that's the bad news: Titanium Ore and Stravidium Mass only exist in the Deep Desert. You won't find them in the Hagga Basin. Stravidium Mass lies around as loose chunks or sits in minable nodes. Titanium Ore shows up as regular ore deposits.

In practice, every Plastanium Ingot is the result of an expedition. You need cargo space, a stillsuit in decent shape and a plan for where to land, because deposits move with the weekly reset. How to sweep the zone without losing your haul at every worm sign is in our Deep Desert PvE guide.

One detail from the official 1.4.10.0 patch notes makes those runs noticeably easier: logging out in the PvE Deep Desert and in the PvE area of the PvP Deep Desert now takes 30 seconds instead of five minutes. You can end a run with a full load of Titanium Ore without standing there as a target for five minutes. That patch didn't touch the materials, the refineries or the recipes themselves.

๐Ÿงฎ The math most Plastanium guides skip

Two Titanium Ore less per ingot sounds minor. Scaled up to a real build phase, it isn't. Take 100 Plastanium Ingots as the baseline:

  • Medium Ore Refinery: 600 Titanium Ore
  • Large Ore Refinery: 400 Titanium Ore
  • Savings: 200 Titanium Ore, exactly one third

Both need the same 100 Stravidium Fiber, which means 300 Stravidium Mass behind it. And both need 135 liters of water. The time savings are real too: 100 ingots take 50 minutes in the medium station and 33 minutes in the large one.

The math gets brutal on the single biggest item of all, the Large Ore Refinery itself. According to dune.gaming.tools (data version 1.5.3.3), it costs 300 Plastanium Ingots to build, plus 450 Silicone Blocks, 550 Cobalt Paste, 315 Spice Melange, 160 Complex Machinery and 40 Advanced Machinery. That's a chicken-and-egg problem: the station that saves you a third of your titanium has to be paid for with the expensive medium version first.

Making those 300 ingots in the Medium Ore Refinery means 1,800 Titanium Ore and two and a half hours of pure run time. If you already have a Large Ore Refinery standing, you get by with 1,200 Titanium Ore, which is 600 ore less. The 315 Spice Melange in the blueprint are the second big time sink. How to gather it is covered in our spice farming guide.

๐Ÿ’ง The real bottleneck is water, not titanium

Here's the mistake in almost every Plastanium guide: everyone optimizes titanium because the recipe shows a number for it. But the water cost is identical in both refineries. No matter how good your station is, you always pay 1,350 ml per ingot.

For the 300 ingots of a Large Ore Refinery that's 405 liters of water, just for the Plastanium part. For 100 ingots it's still 135 liters. You're not funding a set of armor. You're funding a water economy.

That has three consequences for your base:

  • Expand water production before the refinery. A large refinery without supply just sits there looking good. Windtraps and blood extraction scale, carrying canteens doesn't.
  • Don't run on fumes. A water tank that runs dry halfway through a 300-ingot job costs you more time than the gap between 20 and 30 seconds of craft time.
  • Make Stravidium Fiber ahead of time. The fiber only costs 100 ml and 10 seconds. Craft a stock during quiet moments so the ore refinery can run without breaks later.

โš ๏ธ Common mistakes

Three mistakes come up again and again, and all three cost real playtime:

  • Looking in the wrong refinery. Plastanium runs through the ore refinery. Stravidium Fiber, on the other hand, comes from the chemical refinery. If you've only built one of the two, you simply won't find the recipe.
  • Saving up for the Large Ore Refinery too early. For small amounts, the build cost never pays off. The switch only makes sense once you need triple-digit ingot counts on a regular basis.
  • Heading into the Deep Desert without the right skills. Cargo capacity and survivability depend on your class choices. See our specializations guide and the best builds.

๐Ÿ’ก FAQ about Plastanium in Dune Awakening

Can I make Plastanium without going to the Deep Desert?

No. The community wiki lists both Titanium Ore and Stravidium Mass for the Deep Desert only. Without an expedition, your only option is trading with other players.

Is the Large Ore Refinery worth it?

Once you have steady endgame demand, yes: one third less Titanium Ore and one third less craft time. If you only need 20 to 30 ingots now and then, a build cost of 300 Plastanium Ingots is way out of proportion.

How much water does one Plastanium Ingot really cost?

1,250 ml in the ore refinery plus 100 ml for the Stravidium Fiber in the chemical refinery, so 1,350 ml in total. That number doesn't change, whichever ore refinery you use.

Is there a large chemical refinery for Stravidium Fiber?

No. dune.gaming.tools only lists a Small and a Medium Chemical Refinery, and the fiber is made only in the Medium one. A cheaper version of the fiber recipe isn't documented.

Did Update 1.5 change the Plastanium recipe?

No. dune.gaming.tools (data version 1.5.3.6) still lists the same Plastanium recipes. What did change compared to our earlier data is the build cost of the Large Ore Refinery. According to the official Update 1.5 patch notes, crafting and building costs for Plastanium tier items (including grades 1 to 3) also dropped by roughly 10 to 25 percent depending on the item, so the same gear needs fewer ingots, while the ingot recipe itself stayed the same. The 1.4.10.0 patch notes didn't touch refineries or materials either; the only change relevant to farming runs was the shorter 30-second logout in the Deep Desert. Which armor is worth the effort is covered in our armor tier list.

As of October 11, 2026 (Update 1.5, latest hotfix 1.5.3.7 from October 9, 2026). Logout time and patch content come from the official Dune Awakening 1.4.10.0 patch notes (June 24, 2026); the Plastanium tier cost reduction comes from the official Update 1.5 patch notes. Recipes, build costs and power values were checked against the game data database dune.gaming.tools (data versions 1.5.3.3 to 1.5.3.6) and the community wiki awakening.wiki; locations come from awakening.wiki. None of the recipe data is officially confirmed by Funcom. Recipes can change with any update, so check the station in game if in doubt.
