Dune Awakening Spice Generator: How to Make Spice-infused Fuel Cells (Update 1.5)

Spice-infused Fuel Cells are the fuel for the Dune Awakening Spice Generator in your base. Since Update 1.4, one batch (10 cells) in the Medium Chemical Refinery costs 30 Fuel Cells, 48 Spice Residue, 2 Irradiated Slag and 200 mL of water, and Update 1.5 didn't change that.

Spice-infused Fuel Cells run the Spice-Powered Generator, one of the most efficient power sources for your base. Production changed noticeably with Update 1.4: Funcom officially cut the cost to make the Spice Generator more attractive as a power option. This guide shows the current recipe, where each ingredient comes from and what continuous operation really eats in resources. Raw spice is a separate topic covered in our spice farming guide; here it's only about the refined end product.

โš™๏ธ What Is a Spice-infused Fuel Cell?

The Spice-infused Fuel Cell is a refined fuel cell made from regular Fuel Cells and Spice Residue. It's tier 6, stacks to 500 per slot, takes 0.2 volume per unit and is only crafted in the Medium Chemical Refinery. dune.gaming.tools lists no recipe for any other station.

An important clarification many players get wrong: the name sounds like vehicle fuel, but Spice-infused Fuel Cells don't power ornithopters or ground vehicles. Those use their own vehicle fuel cells, made in a Chemical Refinery from regular Fuel Cells. The spice version has exactly one use: it's the fuel for the Spice-Powered Generator, meaning your base's power supply.

๐Ÿงช Recipe: How to Make the Fuel Cells

Production runs exclusively through the Medium Chemical Refinery. One batch takes 30 seconds and yields 10 cells:

IngredientAmount (since Update 1.4)
Fuel Cell30
Spice Residue48
Irradiated Slag2
Water200 mL

Station: Medium Chemical Refinery ยท Crafting time: 30 seconds ยท Output: 10 Spice-infused Fuel Cells

๐Ÿ’ก Update 1.4: What Changed in the Cost

With Patch 1.4.0.0 (May 19, 2026), Funcom officially lowered the cost. From the patch notes: "In order to make the Spice-powered Generator more attractive as a power-option, we have reduced the cost of Spice-Infused Fuel cells: The amount of Spice Residue required has been reduced from 65 to 48, and the amount of Irradiated Slag required has been reduced from 3 to 2."

Irradiated Slag32โˆ’1 (โˆ’33%)

Water200 mL200 mLunchanged

The Irradiated Slag cut matters most, because that material is comparatively tedious to get (more on that below). Fuel Cells and water stayed the same. Crafting time and output per batch (30 seconds for 10 cells) didn't change with the update, only the ingredient amounts. Per single cell, that's 0.2 Irradiated Slag, not 3.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Where to Get the Ingredients

Fuel Cell: a basic tier 1 resource that, according to dune.gaming.tools, you find all over the world. Alternatively, Traj Axxari, Zoe, Myr Charki and Tyg Rolsum sell Fuel Cells for 50 Solaris each with unlimited stock. They're also the fuel for the Fuel-Powered Generator, the standard base power supply.

Spice Residue: a byproduct of refining Spice Sand into Spice Melange in a spice refinery. How to get Spice Sand efficiently, which refinery tier is worth it and how to dodge sandworms along the way is in our spice farming guide. According to dune.gaming.tools, the medium spice refinery yields 75 Spice Residue per run (750 Spice Sand, 450 seconds), enough for one full fuel cell batch with 48 and a little left over.

Irradiated Slag: a tier 5 component you can't mine. According to dune.gaming.tools, you find it in the irradiated center of Sheol and at the "Fallen Shipwreck" wrecks in Hagga Basin and the Deep Desert (44.2% chance of 20 to 26 units). Arkady Demidenko sells it for 1,500 Solaris each. Why the wreck run pays off twice is in our guide to farming components.

It's the most demanding ingredient on the list, which is exactly why the reduction from 3 to 2 per batch in Update 1.4 is the most noticeable part of the price cut.

Water: a consumable you refill at water sources or through your base's water supply. At 200 mL per batch, it's the least limiting ingredient.

๐Ÿญ What the Dune Awakening Spice Generator Does

The fuel cells' only purpose is the Spice-Powered Generator, a buildable with 4,000 health that burns one Spice-infused Fuel Cell per charge and provides 1,000 power for your base. A single cell burns for 1 hour 30 minutes before the next one has to be loaded automatically.

PropertyValue
Power output1,000
Burn time per cell1 hr 30 min
Structure health4,000
Inventory slots / volume5 slots / 100 volume

Building the generator itself isn't cheap. According to dune.gaming.tools (data version 1.5.3.6), it takes 340 Plastanium Ingots, 150 Silicone Blocks, 210 Spice Melange, 80 Complex Machinery, 220 Cobalt Paste and 40 Advanced Machinery. That mainly makes sense for established bases or guilds already deep in the spice processing chain.

A handy side effect: since one Spice-infused Fuel Cell takes 0.2 volume and the generator has 100 volume of inventory, up to 500 cells fit in at once on paper. At 1.5 hours of burn time per cell, a fully loaded generator runs on its own for about 31 days without anyone refueling it. In practice, only if you don't fill that space with other items.

๐Ÿ’ฐ What Round-the-Clock Power Really Costs

Here's an honest calculation so you can plan. Per single fuel cell (recipe divided by 10), you need:

IngredientPer 1 cellFor 24 hrs of operation (16 cells)
Fuel Cell348
Spice Residue4.876.8
Irradiated Slag0.23.2
Water20 mL320 mL

The 24-hour column is our own math based on 90 minutes of burn time per cell (24 hrs รท 1.5 hrs = 16 cells per day), not a figure from the game itself. If you want to power your base permanently with the Spice Generator, you still need almost 77 Spice Residue per day even after the price cut. That's almost exactly one run of the medium spice refinery (75). For smaller bases, or as backup power next to a Fuel-Powered Generator or wind turbines, the effort is easy to manage.

โ“ Dune Awakening Spice Generator FAQ

What are Spice-infused Fuel Cells used for?
Only as fuel for the Spice-Powered Generator, which provides 1,000 power. They don't power vehicles.

What's the current recipe?
Per batch in the Medium Chemical Refinery: 30 Fuel Cells, 48 Spice Residue, 2 Irradiated Slag and 200 mL of water, for 10 cells in 30 seconds. That has applied since Update 1.4 and, according to dune.gaming.tools, still applies with Hotfix 1.5.3.6.

What did Update 1.4 change about the cost?
Funcom lowered the Spice Residue requirement from 65 to 48 and Irradiated Slag from 3 to 2 per batch. Fuel Cells and water stayed the same.

How long does one cell burn?
A Spice-infused Fuel Cell burns for 1 hour 30 minutes, while the generator provides 1,000 power.

โœจ Verdict: Is the Dune Awakening Spice Generator Worth It After Update 1.4?

Yes, with a caveat. Cutting Spice Residue from 65 to 48 and Irradiated Slag from 3 to 2 makes the Spice-Powered Generator noticeably cheaper to run, mostly because Irradiated Slag is by far the most tedious ingredient. For solo players with occasional power needs, a basic Fuel-Powered Generator is often still enough.

If you already refine spice regularly and have access to Sheol, though, the Spice Generator has offered a much better cost-benefit ratio since 1.4. And the theoretical 31 days of autonomy at full load are a real argument for remote or rarely visited bases.

Recipe, generator stats, build costs and vendor prices were checked against Funcom's official 1.4.0.0 patch notes and dune.gaming.tools (data versions 1.5.3.3 to 1.5.3.6). Checked against Update 1.5 as of October 2026, Hotfix 1.5.3.6.
