The Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator is the machine that turns flower seeds, Tree bark and Mutagen into much stronger tree seeds. In the current English game it's called the "Tree seed sequencer", and it's only the first of three genetics machines.
Behind it sits a second branch: the Genetic extractor and the Genetic synthesizer turn eggs, larvae and quartz into the genetic traits that animals are built from. This guide covers both branches, every recipe we could verify and the numbers that decide whether the effort is worth it.
๐งช What the Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator actually does
The machine has two screens, and that's where most players get stuck. The upper screen shows the available sequences, the lower one is the input. If you place the machine too close to a wall, the upper screen gets hidden. That's a common reason players think the thing is broken.
The process never changes: put in three ingredients, hit research, start the sequence, let the bar run to 100 percent, take the seed out. Two of the three ingredients are almost always the same: Tree bark from the T2 Biodome and a Mutagen. The third ingredient decides which tree you get.
| Stat | Tree seed sequencer |
|---|---|
| Power use | 117.5 kW |
| Slots | 3 |
| Unlock | 80 k Biomass |
| Recipe | Super Alloy, Bioplastic nugget, Explosive powder, Zeolite, Osmium |
Mutagen itself comes from the Biolab and takes a Bacteria Sample, a Methane cartridge and Sulfur. Zeolite is the bottleneck in the machine recipe. Where to find it is covered in our Zeolite guide.
๐ณ Every tree seed and what it gives you
The Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator knows nine sequences at this base level. The values come from the th.gl database, which reads recipes straight from the game files. Oxygen values are boosts on the base output of the spreader the seed goes into.
| Tree seed | Third ingredient | Oxygen | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soleus | Lirma Seed | +125% | none listed |
| Linifolia | Shanga Seed | +125% | none listed |
| Aleatus | Pestera Seed | +125% | none listed |
| Cernea | Nulna Seed | +150% | 500 Insects |
| Elegea | Tuska Seed | +175% | 100 k Insects |
| Humelora | Orema plant | +250% | 500 k Insects |
| Pleom | Golden Seed | +350% | none listed |
| Aemora | Volnus plant | +400% | 1.1 M Insects |
| Shreox | T2 Mutagen | +450% | 5.7 G Plants |
Here's the point nearly every guide gets wrong: the Golden Seed is not the best thing the sequencer can make. Pleom sits at +350 percent, Aemora from the Volnus plant at +400 percent, and Shreox beats both at +450 percent.
Shreox is also the only seed in this set that needs no flower seed at all. Tree bark plus Mutagen plus T2 Mutagen, done. If you have a running mutagen line, you can build it endlessly, while Golden Seeds stay scarce. Stronger seeds wait for the late game: Lillia takes Tree bark and T4 Mutagen and gives +1200 percent according to the database.
๐งฌ Extractor and synthesizer: the second branch
The Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator handles plants. For animals you need two more machines, and they come very late.
| Machine | Power | Slots | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genetic extractor | 317.5 kW | 15 | 400 M Insects |
| Genetic synthesizer | 292 kW | 10 | 60 G Biomass |
| Animal shelter | 270 kW | 5 | 500 k Biomass |
| Animal feeder | 95 kW | 10 | 500 k Biomass |
The extractor needs Blazar Quartz, Pulsar Quartz, Solar Quartz, an Osmium Rod, a Circuit board and T3 Mutagen. The synthesizer costs Magnetar Quartz, Blazar Quartz, Quasar Quartz, a Super Alloy Rod, a Circuit board and T4 Mutagen. Both recipes are a good reason to automate Magnetar Quartz early. The Skeo changelog also notes that the extractor and synthesizer now unlock "a bit later" than before.
The extractor breaks items down into genetic traits, 15 at a time. The synthesizer puts them back together and outputs creature DNA. That goes into the Animal shelter, where the animal spawns. According to community measurements, each animal in a shelter adds +1000 percent to that shelter's Animals output. You feed them with an Animal feeder nearby.
๐ฆ Where genetic traits come from
The synthesizer has eight trait slots. Three are required (species, color A and color B) and five are optional: skin pattern, bioluminescence, variant, pattern color and size. The optional ones are purely cosmetic and don't change the output. The in-game labels may be worded slightly differently from ours.
And here's the part that ties this system to your existing breeding: the traits come from exactly the creatures you're already raising.
| Source | Trait type |
|---|---|
| Butterfly larvae (bee, silk worm, rare) | Species 1 to 3 |
| Butterflies | Color A |
| Fish and flower seeds | Color B |
| Frogs | Skin pattern and pattern color |
| Common and rare larvae | Size 1 and 2 |
| Volnus plant | Size 3 |
| Golden variants, Magnetar Quartz and Quasar Quartz | Bioluminescence 1 to 6 |
| Petting spawned animals, portal crates | Variant, rare sizes |
The golden variants are the most interesting row. Golden Seed, golden frog, golden butterfly and golden fish each give one bioluminescence level, and you get the missing two from Magnetar Quartz and Quasar Quartz. If your frog breeding and larvae production are already running, you own half the trait list.
The source-to-trait mapping comes from Steam guides and community threads, not from Miju Games. There is no official wiki for the game. The Skeo changelog does confirm one related change: variant genetic traits now drop more often as loot.
๐ What you actually need the traits for
Genetic traits aren't collectibles. Three recipes require them, and all three are endgame multipliers. Unlike the Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator, this isn't about oxygen. It's about your Animals counter.
- Animals spreader rocket: Rocket Engine, Osmium Rod, T4 Mutagen and six Genetic traits. Result: +1750 percent Animals, globally.
- T2 Animals spreader rocket (Skeo): T2 Rocket Engine, Osmium Rod, T3 Fertilizer, four Genetic traits and two Amber. Result: +6750 percent Animals.
- Animals multiplier fuse: two Genetic traits, Fuse cartridge, T4 Mutagen, T2 Mutagen, Phosphorus and T1 Animal food. Result: +750 percent in a Machine optimizer.
The math behind it hurts a bit. Both rockets plus one fuse eat twelve traits. Since a trait is used up when you craft with it, every rocket competes directly with the animal you actually wanted to create. Plan the extractor as a machine that runs all the time, not as a one-off build.
๐ก The synthesizer mistake that caught everyone after Skeo
After the Skeo update, players reported that the Genetic synthesizer could no longer be filled from the inventory. You click a trait slot and the selection stays empty, even with traits in your backpack.
The traits go into the two cabinet slots on the left and right of the machine. According to several player reports, the right cabinet has to be filled first before the left one accepts items. In a few cases only logging out and back in helped. In v2.102 the synthesizer window also showed the wrong title, "Tree Seed Sequencer". Skeo Moon Patch #1 (v2.103, September 14, 2026) lists "Fixed Genetic Synthetizer UI window name", so on the current version the title should be correct.
The cabinet behavior isn't officially confirmed. On the genetics machines, the Skeo changelog only says that the extractor, manipulator and synthesizer now sit in the Biomass category of the build menu and that tree seed creation in the sequencer is faster. More on the update is in our Skeo article.
โ Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator FAQ
When does the Planet Crafter DNA Manipulator unlock?
The blueprint is tied to the Biomass counter and appears at 80 k Biomass according to the game database. You don't need a blueprint microchip for it. How those work is explained in our blueprint microchip guide.
Why can't I see any recipes in the machine?
Because the upper screen is blocked. Move the machine so both screens are reachable. Without the upper screen you can't pick a sequence.
Can I turn a tree seed back into a flower seed?
Yes. The Recycling machine gives you a flower seed back from a tree seed. So a mutation isn't a one-way street if you need the flower seed for another recipe later.
Are trees actually better than flowers?
From the T2 Tree Spreader on, clearly yes. As long as you only have tier 1 spreaders, a T2 Flower Spreader with strong flowers can keep up. Once you have T3 spreaders, community calculations say flowers can't close the gap anymore.
Do different animals give different amounts of biomass?
No. Player reports agree that every spawned mammal gives the same output. Species, color and size are looks, not a bonus. Use whichever traits you can reproduce most easily.
Do I need animals to finish the game?
No. The animal branch is optional and the ending is reachable without it. For the terraformation index, though, the two animal rockets are the strongest single boosts available late in the game.
As of October 2026, main branch v2.103 (Skeo Moon Patch #1). Official sources: Miju Games' changelogs for the Skeo update on Steam (app 1284190), covering the genetics machines moving to the Biomass category, faster tree seed creation, later extractor and synthesizer unlocks, more variant trait loot, the T2 Incubator, the T3 Tree Spreader, the T2 Animals spreader rocket and the synthesizer window name fix. Recipes, power values (shown in game as kW), slot counts, unlock thresholds, oxygen boosts and the English machine names come from the planetcrafter.th.gl database, which reads them from the game files.
Not officially confirmed: the source-to-trait mapping, the +1000 percent per animal in a shelter, equal output for all mammal species and the synthesizer cabinet behavior. Those come from Steam discussions and community guides.
