Planet Crafter Magnetar Quartz can be crafted for the first time since update v2.102 on September 1, 2026. You unlock the recipe on the moon Skeo. Before that, the purple crystal was the only quartz type in the game with no recipe at all.

This guide separates what the official changelog actually says, what the game-data database adds and which three ways still get you Magnetar Quartz without the recipe.

💎 What Magnetar Quartz is in The Planet Crafter

Magnetar Quartz belongs to the family of special quartz types named after astronomical objects: Pulsar, Solar, Quasar, Blazar and Magnetar, plus Cosmic Quartz as a catch-all form. None of them is a normal ore you just chip out of a rock wall. The crystals sit in wrecks, loot chests and the rainbow caves, and that's exactly what makes them a bottleneck in the endgame.

English fan guides describe Magnetar Quartz as purple. One single Steam post calls it green but contradicts itself in the same post. When in doubt, trust the item label in your inventory.

⚒️ Planet Crafter Magnetar Quartz recipe: what v2.102 changes

The Skeo changelog is short and clear on this point. Miju Games writes: "Magnetar quartz can now be crafted once you unlocked the recipe (unlocks on Skeo)".

That's the entire official statement. The patch notes give no ingredients, no output amount and no crafting time. The game-data database planetcrafter.th.gl fills part of that gap. It lists the recipe as 2 Amber, 1 Osmium and 1 Oxygen capsule, crafted at the Quartz craft station, unlocked by reaching the Complete stage on Skeo. One mix-up is going around right now, and it matters: the changelog line "recipe needs only one alga instead of three" is about Quasar Quartz, not Magnetar Quartz. Both lines sit close together, and several auto-generated summaries have already blended them.

Two more lines from the same list help with planning: Blazar Quartz unlocks earlier than before, and the Auto-Crafter no longer shows the Quartz craft station until you've unlocked the station. That's not a bug, just menu cleanup.

🧪 The Quartz craft station and the 100 QiSysTi threshold

The special quartz types aren't built in the Biolab but at their own station, the Quartz craft station.

The key point most guides skip: this station is not tied to the Terraformation Index of your current planet, but to the system index. Two independent posts in the Steam discussions give 100 QiSysTi as the threshold where the recipe unlocks automatically. That's a community figure, not a developer statement. The database confirms that the unlock sits on the System Terraformation index.

In practice, you need to have worked on at least one second world, or the system index never gets close. Don't confuse it with the Advanced Craft Station, which unlocks early at 175 kTi, or with the Pulsar Quartz recipe at 175 GTi. 🗺️ Three ways to get Magnetar Quartz without the recipe

Until your recipe is unlocked, or if you don't plan to go to Skeo at all, the classic sources remain. All three are community practice from the Steam forums and English fan guides, not from official patch notes:

1. Portal runs. The fastest way. You open a portal with Pulsar Quartz and collect every quartz type in the procedurally generated wrecks and chests behind it. Because these wrecks regenerate without limit, Magnetar Quartz counts as practically unlimited this way.
2. Rainbow caves on Prime. In the northwest of the map there are chambers with fixed crystals. An English fan guide gives 2059:13:2067 as the coordinates for the Magnetar chamber. These deposits are finite.
3. Breaking down Cosmic Quartz. Cosmic Quartz sits on the small statues spread across the map. Put it into the T3 Ore Crusher and you get the individual types. The catch: according to the forums, only 41 spawn on Humble, and it rarely shows up in chests. A fallback, not a production line.

If you're running through the cave system anyway, combine the trip with the Zeolite Cave, since that's where you get supply for Pulsar Quartz.

📦 What you need Magnetar Quartz for

Miju Games hasn't published a usage list. Older Steam threads claim Magnetar Quartz mainly goes into fuses. The database doesn't support that: the Energy multiplier fuse, for example, uses Pulsar, Solar and Cosmic Quartz (details in our fuses guide). Instead, planetcrafter.th.gl lists these recipes with Magnetar Quartz:

• Cosmic Quartz
• T2 Magnetic field protection rocket
• Microchip - T3 Deconstruction
• T3 Drone
• Warden key detector
• Vehicle - T3 Inventory increase
• Genetic synthesizer and Solar system screen (buildings)

For context on which type does what: Pulsar Quartz goes into Teleporters, the Drone station and Fusion Energy Cells, Solar Quartz into flashlights and Fuse cartridges. Magnetar Quartz isn't a basic building material but a pure late-game crystal. The backpack upgrades alone make it worth crafting once your Skeo setup runs.

⚠️ Before you fly to Skeo: two hard facts

Because the recipe only unlocks on Skeo, your access to Planet Crafter Magnetar Quartz depends on two conditions that are often described wrong.

First, getting there. Skeo has been live in the regular game since September 1, 2026, free and at the same time on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and GOG. You don't need the development branch anymore. You need a fully terraformed starting planet, then the Extraction platform and the Interplanetary travel rocket. Second, co-op. The Planet Crafter has no crossplay. Multiplayer only works within the same console family, and Steam players can't play with console players. More on that in our crossplay guide. If you want to unlock the recipe together, you need the same platform and the same version.

💡 Practical tips for your quartz supply

• Pulsar Quartz first. No Pulsar, no portal, and no portal means no reliable quartz runs. It's the ticket to every other type.
• Watch the system index. The Quartz craft station depends on QiSysTi, not on your home world's index. A second planet gets you there faster than another Tree Spreader at home.
• Back up before you leave. The trip to Skeo is the moment to copy your save, because the game saves on arrival.
• Stock Amber early. Two Amber per Magnetar Quartz add up fast once you start crafting backpacks and drones.
