Enshrouded fast travel works from almost anywhere on the map, but only to two kinds of destinations: Ancient Spires you have climbed and your own Flame Altars. The one hard block is the Shroud. According to community guides, you can't fast travel while you're inside the fog.
This guide lists the eight Ancient Spires from Early Access, explains how to reveal the map and shows how to combine Flame Altars, gliders and spires into a fast route network across Embervale.
๐งญ How Enshrouded fast travel works
Open the world map, pick an unlocked destination and confirm the trip. None of the sources we checked mention a fee, an item cost or a cooldown. According to the German community database eprison.de, the quest "The Ancient Spires" sums up the rule in game: you can fast travel to every spire you've climbed and to your own Flame Altars.
That gives you two destination types:
- Ancient Spires: fixed towers, one per region. They become travel points as soon as you've spoken to the Flame at the top.
- Flame Altars: your own base points. Every active altar is automatically a fast travel destination.
Campfires, beds and chests are not destinations. If you want to get back to a spot quickly, you need a Flame Altar or an Ancient Spire nearby. Since 1.0 you can, however, start a fast travel while sleeping in a bed.
๐ซ๏ธ The Shroud block
While you're in the fog, fast travel stays locked. PC Gamer and Gamer Guides both describe this, but Keen Games hasn't spelled out the rule in a patch note, so treat it as a community finding. In practice: get out of the Shroud first, then travel. How to keep enough time for that is in our Shroud timer guide.
In the Steam community, players report that after logging out inside the fog they respawn at their altar on the next start. That's observed behavior, not a confirmed feature, and a patch could change it anytime.
๐ผ All Ancient Spires in Enshrouded
The English community wiki at enshrouded.wiki.gg lists eight Ancient Spires, one per region. The eighth one, in Veilwater Basin, arrived with the "Wake of the Water" update.
| Ancient Spire | Region |
|---|---|
| Ancient Spire - Springlands | Springlands |
| Ancient Spire - Low Meadows | Low Meadows |
| Ancient Spire - Revelwood | Revelwood |
| Ancient Spire - Blackmire | Blackmire |
| Ancient Spire - Nomad Highlands | Nomad Highlands |
| Ancient Spire - Kindlewastes | Kindlewastes |
| Ancient Spire - Albaneve Summits | Albaneve Summits |
| Ancient Spire - Veilwater Basin | Veilwater Basin |
Many older guides only list three spires because they date from January 2024, when only the Springlands, Low Meadows and Revelwood were in the game. The spires are climbing and puzzle towers with traps that match their region. The Flame waits at the top. Whether the new Cinder's Cradle region has its own spires, the 1.0 patch notes don't say.
๐ฅ What the Flame on a spire unlocks
When you talk to the Flame at the top, two things happen according to the community wiki: the spire becomes a fast travel point, and the map shows the region's Ancient Obelisks. The obelisks in turn mark Shroud Roots and Flame Shrines.
The Blacksmith sends you to the very first spire in the Springlands with the quest "The Ancient Spires". According to the community wiki, the follow-up quest about fast travel requires that you don't travel to any altar or spire beforehand, or that step won't complete cleanly.
๐บ๏ธ Revealing the map
The map in Enshrouded fills in three ways: exploring on foot, the Flames on the Ancient Spires and the Ancient Obelisks. When you enter a new region, head for the spire first. It gives you the travel point and the overview of where Shroud Roots for Enshrouded skill points and Flame Shrines with sparks are hidden.
With "Forging the Path" (version 0.9.1.0, April 21, 2026), Keen Games reworked the world map according to the official patch notes:
- An extra zoom level, meant for finding markers and survivors in large bases.
- Quest markers show the quest type even before the location is discovered.
- Search areas name their main or side quest or the gear set they belong to.
- Lower memory use when opening the map.
๐ฅ Flame Altars as your own travel network
Every Flame Altar is a travel destination. According to the community wiki, an altar costs only 5 stones of any kind and is crafted by hand once the quest for your first base spot is done. The limit isn't the material but the number of active altars: in Early Access it was 2 at Flame Level 1, then 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and a maximum of 10 from Flame Level 7. With version 1.0, the official patch notes raise the limit to 15 altars with the new Flame Level before Cinder's Cradle and to 16 with Flame Level 11.
How to strengthen the Flame for that is in our Flame Altar levels guide. In co-op, it pays to coordinate altars so not everyone covers the same corner. How to set up a shared world is in our dedicated server and co-op guide.
๐งฑ The throwaway altar
Since an altar only costs 5 stones, you can use it as a temporary travel point: place one before a long dungeon or a boss fight and deactivate it afterwards. Deactivating puts out the Flame and frees the slot. Careful: buildings inside that altar's build area disappear at the next world reset.
At a low Flame Level with only two slots, that's hardly worth it, since one slot belongs to your main base. Once you have six or more active altars, there's enough room for one or two roaming travel points.
๐ช Glider and grappling hook for the gaps
Enshrouded fast travel only takes you to fixed points, and the glider handles the rest. Names follow the community wiki, levels the database eprison.de:
| Glider | Level | Range | Crafted at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glider | 5 | 100% | Workbench |
| Advanced Glider | 10 | 150% | Carpenter |
| Extraordinary Glider | 20 | 200% | Carpenter |
| Ghost Glider | 30 | 250% | Carpenter |
Gliding drains stamina, and the glider folds up when it's empty. Since "Forging the Path", the Updraft skill charges during the first seconds of flight and gives about 15 percent more max height according to the patch notes, and it charges faster in your own base. The Kindlewastes have had natural updrafts since then. You get the Carpenter through the quests in our Enshrouded craftspeople guide.
The grappling hook complements the glider on ledges and slopes. There are no mounts in Enshrouded. They have been an open request on the official feedback platform since January 2024.
๐ก Route tips for faster travel
- Spire first: In every new region, climb the Ancient Spire first. It's a travel point, map revealer and the highest glider launch spot.
- Start from the top: After fast traveling to a spire, glide from the top deep into the region, faster than any walk.
- Mark the fog edge: Since fast travel is blocked in the Shroud, an altar just outside large fog areas pays off.
- Empty your backpack: Drop loot at the base before long trips. With fast travel, that takes seconds.
- Zoom the map: In large bases, the extra zoom level helps you find survivors and workshops on the map.
๐ What 1.0 changes for fast travel
The values above come from Early Access after "Forging the Path" with hotfixes up to version 0.9.1.2. Enshrouded 1.0 launched on October 15, 2026 for PC and PS5.
The official patch notes for version 1.0.0.0 mainly change one thing for Enshrouded fast travel: the number of Flame Altars rises to 15 with the new Flame Level before Cinder's Cradle and to 16 with Flame Level 11. On top of that, the new Cinder's Cradle region opens in the north, custom map markers can be named freely, you can fast travel while sleeping in a bed, and air streams can now push gliders in any direction, not just upward. The updraft charge duration can be set in the world settings.
