- โ Dune Awakening Sandcrawler FAQ
The Dune Awakening Sandcrawler vacuums up Spice Sand in bulk on its own and sits at the very end of the vehicle tree at Mk6. A harvest-ready crawler needs seven parts, about 320 Plastanium Ingots and 312 Spice Melange.
This guide shows where to research the assembly, what each part costs, how much sand fits in one load and when the crawler beats harvesting on foot. All values come from the database dune.gaming.tools (read from the game files, data version 1.5.3.3) or from Funcom's patch notes. Where only the community wiki awakening.wiki says something, we say so.
๐ฌ Unlocking the Dune Awakening Sandcrawler: Mk6 Assembly
You don't unlock the crawler through a quest but through research. In the vehicle tree, it's in the Plastanium tier as the entry Sandcrawler Mk6 Assembly. According to dune.gaming.tools, it costs 60 Intel and contains seven schematics. The Plastanium tier itself only opens once you've spent 1,200 Intel in this tree.
Every part is built at the Advanced Vehicle Fabricator, 20 seconds each. Then you weld the cabin, engine and the rest onto the chassis with the welding torch. Since Update 1.5, the Journey step for the Sandcrawler only counts as done once the crawler is fully assembled, according to the patch notes, not after a partial build.
โ๏ธ The Required Parts at a Glance
The Dune Awakening Sandcrawler needs five parts to drive. It needs the Vacuum and the Centrifuge to harvest, and per the community wiki, the Vacuum only works together with the Centrifuge. The treads are fitted twice (per awakening.wiki); the item description requires all treads to be the same type.
| Part (all prefixed "Sandcrawler" in the client) | Key stat |
|---|---|
| Chassis Mk6 | 5,000 durability, 750 fuel, 2 module slots |
| Cabin Mk6 | 2 seats, 3,750 durability |
| Engine Mk6 | 60 km/h, acceleration "Slow" |
| PSU Mk6 | fuel efficiency 79 |
| Tread Mk6 (2x) | grip 126.7, vibration level 6 |
| Vacuum Mk6 | 500 Spice Sand per second |
| Centrifuge Mk6 | 7,500 volume, 20 slots |
Important for context: according to the community wiki, the crawler doesn't harvest Flour Sand. It's a pure spice tool.
๐ฆ What the Chassis Costs
The chassis is the frame everything else gets welded to. The recipe per dune.gaming.tools: 830 water, 63 Plastanium Ingots, 27 Advanced Servoks, 33 Cobalt Paste, 55 Spice Melange and 12 Carbide Scraps. For Plastanium supply, check our Plastanium guide, because without a running Stravidium chain you won't build a crawler.
Does the Chassis Still Cost Melange Since Update 1.5?
Yes. There's a misunderstanding going around here. With Update 1.5, Funcom removed Spice Melange from the build cost of exactly six buildings: the four advanced fabricators, the Medium Chemical Refinery and the Augmentation Station. That's what the console release patch notes from September 17, 2026 say, and it's also how our Update 1.5 article describes it. Vehicle parts aren't on that list.
The database confirms it: even at version 1.5.3.3 from September 24, 2026, every crawler part still requires Melange. Since 1.5, you only save on the fabricator you build the parts at.
๐งฎ Full Cost of a Complete Dune Awakening Sandcrawler
The following total is our own math from the individual database recipes, with standard treads:
| Part | Plastanium Ingots | Spice Melange | Other special components |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chassis | 63 | 55 | 12 Carbide Scraps |
| Cabin | 13 | 54 | 45 Armor Plating |
| Engine | 45 | 42 | 14 Particle Capacitor, 24 Complex Machinery, 9 Tri-Forged Hydraulic Piston |
| PSU | 45 | 42 | 27 Particle Capacitor, 9 Overclocked Power Regulator |
| Treads (2x) | 24 | 22 | none |
| Vacuum | 45 | 42 | 9 Advanced Machinery |
| Centrifuge | 85 | 55 | 30 Plasteel Composite Armor Plating, 12 Diamondine Dust |
| Total | 320 | 312 |
Add 5,810 water, 210 Cobalt Paste and 133 Advanced Servoks. How expensive those 312 Melange really are depends on your refinery. The database lists three ratios: the small spice refinery turns 100 Spice Sand into one Melange, the medium one 75, the large one 50.
- Small spice refinery: 31,200 Spice Sand and 234,000 water
- Medium spice refinery: 23,400 Spice Sand and 218,400 water
- Large spice refinery: 15,600 Spice Sand and 117,000 water
Paying for the crawler with Melange from the small refinery burns twice as much sand as necessary.
๐ Vacuum and Centrifuge: 50,000 Spice Sand per Load
According to the database, the Vacuum pulls 500 Spice Sand per second. The Centrifuge holds 7,500 volume in 20 slots. One unit of Spice Sand takes 0.15 volume and stacks to 2,500. Both ways of doing the math give the same number: 7,500 divided by 0.15 is 50,000, and 20 slots times 2,500 is also 50,000 Spice Sand.
On paper, the Centrifuge is full after 100 seconds of vacuuming. In practice it takes longer, because you drive between patches and spice fields aren't endless. A full load gives 1,000 Melange in the large refinery and costs 375,000 water there. One single load pays for the crawler a good three times over.
The unique Upgraded Regis Spice Container replaces the Centrifuge with 11,250 volume and 30 slots, so 75,000 Spice Sand. According to the database, the Landsraad vehicle vendor sells its schematic for 185,000, and building it costs another 145 Melange.
๐ฅ Crew: Two Seats, No Group Required
Per the item description, the crawler's cabin has seats for the driver and one passenger, nothing more. You can drive and vacuum alone. The game doesn't assign fixed roles. Whether a teammate places thumpers outside or waits in the Carrier Ornithopter is purely up to your group's tactics.
Transport is the real bottleneck. The community wiki describes the crawler as a vehicle that "must be transported to the spice fields carefully" and names the Carrier Ornithopter as the transporter for buggies and Sandcrawlers. If you'd rather start smaller, our buggy guide covers the next ground vehicle down.
๐ชฑ Vibration and Sandworm Risk
A vehicle that constantly rolls over sand while vacuuming is a nonstop signal for the worm. According to the database, the standard treads carry vibration level 6. How the worm reacts to vibration in general and why rock is the only safe surface is explained in our sandworm guide.
Many players overlook a second risk: the community wiki lists the Sandcrawler with "Vehicle Backup: No". So the Vehicle Backup Tool that protects your other vehicles doesn't help here. The patch notes don't explicitly say whether vehicle recovery brings back a crawler that got eaten. Plan as if it's gone after a worm attack.
Dampened Sandcrawler Treads (Unique)
The unique Dampened Sandcrawler Treads lower the vibration level from 6 to 4. The price is less grip: 113.3 instead of 126.7. The item description is honest about it: the worm will come eventually anyway.
According to dune.gaming.tools, the Landsraad vehicle vendor sells the schematic for 39,500. Per Funcom's patch notes (test client 1.2.30.0), a schematic gives two charges, which is exactly one pair of treads. Per tread, the database asks for 620 water, 20 Plastanium Ingots, 12 Advanced Servoks, 15 Cobalt Paste, 73 Spice Melange and 7 Spice-infused Plastanium Dust. The community wiki still shows 93 Melange and 1,580 water, probably an older version.
With two Dampened Treads, the Melange bill goes from 312 to 436.
The third unique is the Walker Engine Mk6 with 80 instead of 60 km/h, but "Very Slow" acceleration and a cost of 145 Melange. According to the database, its schematic drops in the Deep Desert.
โ๏ธ When Does the Dune Awakening Sandcrawler Beat Hand Harvesting?
For harvesting by hand you use compactors. According to the database, the Compact Compactor Mk6 has a harvest rate of "Extreme", the Omni Static Compactor "Very High". The database doesn't give a per-second rate for either, so an exact comparison with the Vacuum's 500 per second isn't possible. The Compact Compactor itself costs 65 Melange, and its schematic is sold by the Landsraad tool vendor for 70,000.
Our take based on the numbers:
- The crawler pays off if you regularly work large spice fields, have a large spice refinery with enough water and can move the crawler with a Carrier Ornithopter. Then the first full load pays for the build several times over.
- Hand harvesting stays better if you play solo without a Carrier Ornithopter, only hit small fields in Hagga Basin, or your refinery can't handle the water for 50,000 sand anyway.
The flow of a farming run with rocks, landing spot and retreat is described in our spice farming guide. The crawler doesn't replace that routine, it just increases what ends up in the Centrifuge.
โ Dune Awakening Sandcrawler FAQ
Where do I unlock the Sandcrawler?
In research: vehicle tree, Plastanium tier, entry "Sandcrawler Mk6 Assembly" for 60 Intel. It's built at the Advanced Vehicle Fabricator.
Can I drive the Dune Awakening Sandcrawler alone?
Yes. The cabin has two seats, driver and passenger. A second player helps keep watch, but isn't required.
How much Spice Melange does a complete crawler cost?
By our math from the database recipes, 312 Melange with standard treads and 436 with Dampened Treads. Update 1.5 didn't change that, because it only affects six buildings.
How much Spice Sand fits in the Centrifuge?
7,500 volume at 0.15 volume per unit, so 50,000 Spice Sand. The Upgraded Regis Spice Container holds 75,000.
Are the Dampened Treads worth it?
If you want to stay on a field longer, yes. They lower the vibration level from 6 to 4, but cost grip and 73 Melange per tread instead of 11.
Can the crawler harvest Flour Sand?
No. According to the community wiki, it only harvests Spice Sand.
Checked against Update 1.5 as of October 2026. Update 1.5 has been live since September 17, 2026; on consoles it first launched as early access for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers, with the regular console launch following on September 22, 2026. The hotfixes up to 1.5.3.7 from October 9, 2026 don't change the Sandcrawler. Recipes and values match dune.gaming.tools (database read from the game files) at version 1.5.3.3 from September 24, 2026. Patch 1.5.15.0 has only been on the Public Test Client since September 30, 2026 and lists no Sandcrawler changes.
