Warframe Banshee Rework 2026: Every Ability Change in Update 44

Warframe Banshee Rework 2026: Every Ability Change in Update 44

The Warframe Banshee rework went live on September 23, 2026 with Update 44 "Iceblade of Narin". Digital Extremes first showed it in the devstream on September 4: all four abilities changed, and Sonar now creates real Weak Points instead of mere markers.

This article started as a preview of the devstream and has been brought up to date with the official patch notes. The rework has been playable for two weeks, three hotfixes have followed (44.0.1 to 44.0.3), and Update 44.1 "The Icebind" arrived on October 7, 2026 without further Banshee changes. Where the final patch differs from what the devstream showed, it's noted below.

๐Ÿ“… When the Warframe Banshee rework released

The rework shipped with Update 44 "Iceblade of Narin" on September 23, 2026, the same day Citrine Prime Access started. The date came from Digital Extremes' news post on warframe.com. In the devstream itself, developer Pablo only said she'd be "here soon".

There was also a login reward: anyone who logged in between September 23 and October 7 got Banshee plus one built Forma for free. That window has closed. According to the patch notes, players who never received the Banshee inbox can still claim the Forma on login until December 31, 2026. Alongside the update came the paid Deluxe skin "Banshee Threnodia" with a matching collection.

๐ŸŽฏ First ability: Sonic Boom becomes a tool

Sonic Boom got several changes at once. It is now cast one-handed and no longer roots Banshee. It no longer ragdolls enemies but pushes and stuns them instead, which makes it much easier to shoot them afterward, exactly the reasoning Pablo gave in the devstream. Its Impact damage went up from 50 to 250, and it now guarantees an Impact status.

The most important change: armor removal is now built in. According to the patch notes, Sonic Boom reduces 70% of enemy armor, scaling with Ability Strength up to 100%. Before the rework, that only came from the augment mod Sonic Fracture, which according to the community wiki stripped 70% armor at max rank and cost 25,000 standing with Cephalon Suda or The Perrin Sequence, both at rank 5. That hurdle is gone.

The old augment didn't disappear, it was reworked and renamed to Sonic Siphon. In the devstream, Pablo described it as giving you back part of the stripped armor as protection. The final version is more precise: Banshee gains armor for 20 seconds whenever Sonic Siphon hits an enemy, up to a cap of 1,500 armor. Armor doesn't need to be stripped for the bonus, and recasting refreshes the duration if the cast hits an enemy.

๐Ÿ’ก The passive gets teeth

Before the rework, Banshee's passive only muffled weapon noise, for her own weapons and her companions'. A stealth bonus and nothing else. Now every ability cast also does something: enemies around her get their eardrums pierced.

Mechanically, casting an ability applies maximum Puncture status to enemies within 10 meters according to the patch notes. The devstream mentioned five stacks. The community wiki adds that the in-game tooltip and effect actually use 20 meters, more than the patch notes state. Puncture lowers the damage enemies deal and makes them more vulnerable to critical hits. So a passive that only mattered for stealth turns into a constant source of damage reduction, without using a single mod slot.

๐Ÿ“Š Sonar now creates real Weak Points: the core change

The biggest change in the Warframe Banshee rework hits her second ability, Sonar. Sonar has always marked body parts that take extra damage, up to a factor of 5 at max rank according to the community wiki. The problem: the game didn't treat those spots as weak points.

The community wiki was blunt about the old state: Sonar spots didn't count as weak points for effects like Pistol Acuity or for charging Incarnon weapons. That separation is gone. Per the patch notes, Sonar's weak spots are now considered Weak Points, the reticle turns red on them, new spots prefer body parts that aren't already marked, and casting no longer roots Banshee.

In practice that means Weak Point mods and arcanes now work with Banshee for the first time. In the devstream, Digital Extremes also said hits on Sonar spots would charge Incarnon weapons. The patch notes simply speak of synergy with "a variety of Mods, Arcanes, and more". If you're building around it, our Steel Path beginner's guide covers the content where this damage matters most.

โš ๏ธ Which mods and arcanes work with it

In the devstream, Pablo warned that the first release would only cover "the favorites" and that converting every "on headshot" effect to "on Weak Point" would take time. The patch notes for Update 44 name no list for Sonar specifically. They do list the first batch of effects that were switched from "On Headshot" to "On Weakpoint" in the same update:

  • Primary Deadhead and Secondary Deadhead
  • Arcane Precision and Arcane Pistoleer
  • Sharpshooter
  • Argon Scope and Hydraulic Crosshairs
  • Galvanized Crosshairs and Galvanized Scope
  • Longbow Sharpshot
  • Harrow's Thurible, Covenant and the Lasting Covenant augment

Digital Extremes says more conversions will follow in future updates, and Update 44.1 didn't add any. For build planning that means: check the current tooltip before you spend Forma, and don't buy an expensive arcane just because it mentions headshots. The Galvanized mods on that list are a good match for Sonar builds. Why they matter at high levels is explained in our guide to Warframe Galvanized mods.

โœจ Silence can finally be recast

The third ability, Silence, got two changes that sound small and matter a lot in play. Casting it no longer roots Banshee, and it can be recast while active to reset its duration and reapply the stun. Pablo called the recast the more important of the two.

The reason is obvious: an aura you have to let run out forces waiting times and gaps in crowd control. With the new passive, every recast also applies Puncture again.

๐Ÿฉธ Sound Quake no longer locks Banshee in place

The fourth ability, Sound Quake, used to be the reason Banshee was unpopular in groups. According to the community wiki, it was a channeled ability that left Banshee unable to move or cast anything else, draining 25 to 12 energy per second depending on rank.

Since the rework, Sound Quake is no longer channeled. It creates an area of effect that lasts 25 seconds while you move freely. Banshee is briefly invulnerable while casting it. The patch notes don't give an exact duration.

Enemies in the area get guaranteed Blast status, less the farther they stand from the center. The casting animation is faster, and containers break across the whole area. The old augment Resonating Quake was renamed to Gaseous Quake and goes the other way: it is now channeled, roots Banshee, adds Gas damage and status, and its damage multiplies every second up to a cap while the energy drain rises too. Hotfix 44.0.2 fixed performance issues caused by Gaseous Quake.

๐Ÿ”— What the rework means for builds

For years Banshee was a niche Warframe: lots of damage amplification on paper, but useless on the move. The rework flips exactly that weakness. Sonic Boom, Sonar and Silence no longer root her, and Sound Quake no longer has to be held.

The real headline is still Sonar. Now that marked spots count as Weak Points, Banshee pairs with a whole set of mods and arcanes that never interacted with her before. If you're sitting on Rivens with weak point damage, this is the time to look at them again. Our guide to Warframe Riven mods covers unveiling and rolling, and Update 44.1 added Riven Splicing on top.

Whether Banshee is now a good starter Warframe is another question. The rework doesn't change her thin base stats. For new players, a sturdier frame is still the safer pick, and the free Banshee window is over anyway. How she performs in the Steel Path after the rework is something the community is still testing.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions about the Warframe Banshee Rework

When did the Warframe Banshee rework come out?

On September 23, 2026, together with Update 44 "Iceblade of Narin" and Citrine Prime Access. The date was in the official news post on warframe.com. No date was named in the devstream itself.

Can I still get Banshee for free?

No. The login reward ran from September 23 to October 7, 2026 and gave Banshee plus one built Forma. If you never received the Banshee inbox, the patch notes say you can still claim the Forma on login until December 31, 2026. The Deluxe skin "Banshee Threnodia" was always separate and paid.

Do all weak point arcanes work with Sonar now?

Not automatically. Sonar spots count as Weak Points, but many older effects still trigger "on headshot". Update 44 converted a first batch, including Arcane Precision, Arcane Pistoleer, both Deadhead mods and the Galvanized Scope and Crosshairs. More conversions are planned.

Is the Sonic Fracture augment still worth it?

Not in its old form, because its armor strip is now part of Sonic Boom. It was renamed Sonic Siphon and gives Banshee bonus armor for 20 seconds when it hits an enemy, up to 1,500 armor.

Can Banshee move during Sound Quake?

Yes, since the rework. Sound Quake is no longer channeled and creates a 25-second area while you move freely. Banshee is briefly invulnerable on cast; the patch notes don't give the exact duration. Only the Gaseous Quake augment brings back a channeled, rooted version.

Will all "on headshot" effects become weak point effects?

That's the stated goal. Update 44 converted the first batch of mods and arcanes, and Digital Extremes says more will follow in future updates. Update 44.1 "The Icebind" on October 7, 2026 didn't add more.

As of October 8, 2026: checked against the official patch notes for Update 44.0.0 on warframe.com, Hotfixes 44.0.1 to 44.0.3, Update 44.1.0 "The Icebind" (October 7, 2026), the September devstream from Digital Extremes and the Banshee patch history on the community wiki wiki.warframe.com.

All values from wiki.warframe.com are community data, since Warframe has no official wiki. That includes Sonic Fracture's old 70% armor strip and its standing cost, the Sonar factor of 5, Sound Quake's old energy drain and the 20-meter passive radius. Still not confirmed by Digital Extremes: the exact invulnerability duration of Sound Quake. More Warframe guides on the Warframe overview.
