Warframe Riven Mods 2026: How to Get, Unveil, Roll and Use Them

Warframe Riven Mods 2026: How to Get, Unveil, Roll and Use Them

Warframe Riven Mods are unique, fully randomized mods that can push a single weapon far beyond any regular mod, and that can just as easily cost you five-figure amounts of Kuva without producing anything useful. You get them daily from Sorties, from Teshin's weekly rotation on the Steel Path and from Palladino in exchange for Slivers. After that, their real value comes down to two things: your weapon's Disposition and how disciplined you are when you roll.

This guide brings the numbers most guides leave out: the full Kuva cost curve, the actual point ranges of Disposition and the documented rhythm in which Digital Extremes adjusts it.

๐ŸŽฏ What Riven Mods Are and Which Weapons Get Them

Most mods come with preset values, while one of these can give any weapon in the game far-reaching positive (and negative) effects. That is the core of it. A regular mod has fixed values; this one rolls its weapon, stats, polarity and Mastery Rank requirement at random.

You can equip exactly one per weapon; two at once is not possible. They exist for primary, secondary and melee weapons, for Archguns, for the modular Kitguns and Zaws, and for robotic weapons. According to the wiki, none are generated for Exalted weapons, meaning the weapons created by a Warframe ability.

Every unveiled one carries two or three positive stats, and a negative stat can come on top. The community wiki puts a concrete number on the possibility space: 5,083 possible stat combinations with two buffs and 35,673 with three buffs. That number explains better than any rule of thumb why rolling so often goes nowhere.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Where to Get Warframe Riven Mods

There are four reliable sources. All four have their own requirements and their own waiting times.

SourceRequirementYieldFrequency
SortiesMastery Rank 5, quest "The War Within", node Oro on Earthabout 28% total chance at a veiled moddaily, 3 missions
Teshin, Steel PathSteel Path unlocked, Steel Essencemod for 75 to 150 Steel Essenceonly when it's the weekly rotation item
Palladino, Iron Wakequest "The Chains of Harrow"veiled mod for 10 Slivers1x per week
Riven Transmuter4 of these mods you own plus 1 Transmuter1 new veiled mod of the same typelimited by Transmuters

According to the community wiki's drop table, the Sortie chance splits into melee 8.14%, pistol 7.61%, rifle 6.79%, Kitgun 2%, Zaw 2% and shotgun 1.36%. In total that is the roughly 28% mentioned above, so about every fourth completed Sortie. If you're running the Steel Path anyway, you collect Steel Essence on the side: the daily Incursions give 5 Steel Essence each, up to 30 per day.

Riven Slivers drop from Eximus enemies above level 30 at 2% and from the Jackal at level 41 or higher at 5%. Palladino's offers reset on Mondays at 00:00 UTC.

Besides the veiled mod, she also sells Kuva and Endo for Slivers, plus the Transmuter, three per week at 10 Slivers each. Two Transmuters are also guaranteed when you capture the Eidolon Hydrolyst instead of killing it.

๐Ÿ”“ Unveiling: Challenge or Cipher

A freshly received one first sits in your inventory as "???" and doesn't take up a slot yet. Only when you equip it on a weapon does it become "veiled", take a slot and show its challenge. You have to unveil its stats by completing the in-game challenge listed on the mod itself.

The challenges range from harmless to absurd: kill enemies without raising an alarm, solve puzzles under time pressure, land headshots while gliding. If you don't feel like it, use the Veiled Riven Cipher: it completes a challenge instantly. You get it from Teshin for 20 Steel Essence, from Palladino for 10 Slivers or in the Market for 20 Platinum, once per week at each of the two vendors. It can't be traded.

After unveiling, the weapon and polarity are locked for good, as is the Mastery Rank requirement between 8 and 16. Only the stats can still change.

๐ŸŽฒ Rolling with Kuva: the Full Cost Curve

Every roll costs Kuva, and the cost rises with each cycle of the same mod. From the tenth roll on, the increase stops. This curve comes from the community wiki:

RollKuva costCumulative
1900900
21,0001,900
31,2003,100
41,4004,500
51,7006,200
62,0008,200
72,35010,550
82,75013,300
93,15016,450
10+3,500constant per roll

That leads to a calculation hardly any guide writes out: nine rolls cost 16,450 Kuva in total. If you push a single mod to 20 rolls, you've invested 54,950 Kuva: the nine opening rolls plus eleven rolls at 3,500 each. That's more Kuva than most players gather in a week. So before your first roll, decide which two stats you actually want and wave everything else through.

You farm Kuva itself through Kuva Siphon and Kuva Flood missions in the Origin System and through Kuva Liches.

๐Ÿ”’ Trait Locking and Riven Splicing

Update 44 "Iceblade of Narin" (September 23, 2026) added Trait Locking. While cycling, you can lock one trait at a time so it stays on the mod. Locking itself is free and needs no item, but every cycle with a locked trait costs double Kuva, so 7,000 Kuva per roll once you've hit the 3,500 cap.

With a lock active, the number of traits on the mod can't change either. The lock doesn't stick: you have to set it again every time you open the cycling menu.

Update 44.1.0 (October 7, 2026) followed up with Riven Splicing. A Riven Splicer combines two specific traits into a new spliced trait; only fixed pairs can be combined. According to the patch notes, Splicers come exclusively from The Icebind, the new game mode at Yuvan Peak, and every completed Icebind mission guarantees one. Removing the spliced trait undoes the change.

๐Ÿ“Š Disposition: Where Most Guides Get It Wrong

Riven Disposition is a per-weapon multiplier. The higher a weapon's Disposition, the more likely it is to roll higher values, both positive and negative. Rarely used weapons therefore get stronger rolls, popular weapons weaker ones.

DisplayValue rangeMeaning
โ—โ—‹โ—‹โ—‹โ—‹0.50 โ€“ 0.69heavily used weapon, strongly dampened stats
โ—โ—โ—‹โ—‹โ—‹0.70 โ€“ 0.89below average
โ—โ—โ—โ—‹โ—‹0.90 โ€“ 1.10neutral
โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—‹1.11 โ€“ 1.30above average
โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—1.31 โ€“ 1.55barely used weapon, maximum stats

The wiki says Dispositions are rebalanced "every Prime Access release", which is often repeated as "every three months". The documented developer workshops on the official forum paint a different picture: threads exist for October 2023, August 2024, February 2025, August 2025, December 2025, April 2026, June 2026 and September 2026. The gap therefore varies between two and ten months.

The latest round arrived with Citrine Prime Access in Update 44 on September 23, 2026: the patch notes confirm updated Disposition numbers and link to the forum thread "September 2026 Riven Dispositions".

The practical consequence: rolling one for a currently popular weapon is a bet that the next adjustment won't nerf it. If you don't want that risk, invest in weapons that are rarely played anyway; there, Disposition tends to go up rather than down.

๐Ÿ—„๏ธ Slots, Limits and Trading

You start with 15 slots. Extra slots cost 60 Platinum for three. The community wiki lists a maximum of 165 purchasable slots for a total of 3,300 Platinum, plus 30 slots at Mastery Rank 30. Note: other versions of the wiki give a lower maximum, so this cap isn't clearly documented.

If you're over capacity, you can no longer accept one in a trade, but you can still offer one. New rewards land in your inventory as "???" and only count once you equip them, a convenient buffer as long as you don't clean up.

Trading requires Mastery Rank 8. Your daily trade limit equals your Mastery Rank and resets at 00:00 GMT. They are taxed as rare mods, which is 8,000 Credits per trade; in Maroo's Bazaar a 10% hub tax is added, in a Clan Dojo 0 to 100% depending on its settings. We found no documented tax scaling based on the number of rolls.

๐Ÿ’ก When Rolling Is Really Worth It

Concrete Platinum prices age within weeks, so here is the valuation logic instead of numbers. A roll's market value depends on four factors: the weapon's Disposition, that weapon's popularity in the endgame, the stat combination and the number of rolls already spent. An unrolled mod is often worth more than a badly rolled one, because the buyer can still use up the options themselves.

Community data, explicitly not official: riven.market and Reddit threads trade price ranges based on voluntary reports. Digital Extremes publishes no prices. Treat such values as rough orientation, not as market prices.

For your own game, a simple order applies: the essential mods have to be in place first. If your weapon doesn't have Galvanized Mods yet, you'll gain much more damage there than from any random roll. The same goes for Incarnon Genesis adapters. This system is the final upgrade step, not the first.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions about Warframe Riven Mods

How many Riven Mods can I own?
15 by default. Three extra slots cost 60 Platinum. According to the community wiki, 30 free slots are added at Mastery Rank 30.

What is the maximum cost of a Riven roll?
3,500 Kuva without a lock. You reach this cap from the tenth roll of the same mod on; after that it stays constant. With Trait Locking active, each roll costs double, so up to 7,000 Kuva.

Can I change the weapon later?
No. Weapon and polarity are fixed after unveiling. Only the stats can be rerolled with Kuva. If you want a different weapon, you need the Transmuter and sacrifice four mods of this kind for it.

Do I have to complete the challenge myself?
No. The Veiled Riven Cipher completes a veiled challenge instantly. It costs 20 Steel Essence at Teshin, 10 Slivers at Palladino or 20 Platinum in the Market.

Are Warframe Riven Mods worth it for beginners?
Only to a limited extent. The Mastery Rank requirement is between 8 and 16, and without solid base mods the effort brings little. The system makes sense once your build is set and you're only missing the last few percentage points.

Why did my roll suddenly get weaker?
Because Digital Extremes lowered the weapon's Disposition. That happens at irregular intervals and is announced in a developer workshop on the official forum each time.

As of: October 8, 2026. Checked against the community-run WARFRAME Wiki (pages on Rivens, Slivers, Steel Essence, the Cipher, Sorties, Trading and The Steel Path), the official mods guide on warframe.com and the official patch notes for Update 43.5 "Amir's Shockwave" (August 12, 2026), Update 44 "Iceblade of Narin" (September 23, 2026) and Update 44.1.0 (October 7, 2026).

The Disposition workshop timeline is based on thread titles on the official Warframe forum. Price data from riven.market or Reddit is community information without official confirmation; the maximum slot count is contradictory between wiki versions and is marked as undocumented here.
