Warframe Helminth Unlock Guide: The 3 Hurdles Everyone Hits

Warframe Helminth Unlock Guide: The 3 Hurdles Everyone Hits

You can unlock the Warframe Helminth at Mastery Rank 8 and rank 3 (Associate) with the Entrati. The Helminth Segment blueprint then costs 15,000 Standing from Son in the Necralisk and takes 24 hours to build, or you get the built segment in a 300 Platinum Market bundle. A warning up front: subsuming permanently consumes the Warframe you feed in.

The Helminth lets you move an ability from one Warframe to another, one of the biggest power spikes in the game. Getting there depends on three very different hurdles that most guides throw together. Here they're split up, with the costs you'll actually pay.

๐Ÿ”‘ Warframe Helminth requirements

Everything you need at a glance:

So the three hurdles are Mastery Rank, Entrati rank and the Standing grind. They're connected, but each one gets solved in a completely different way.

๐Ÿงฌ Hurdle 1: Mastery Rank 8

MR 8 is the hard lock. Without it, Son won't sell you the segment, no matter how much Standing you have. You earn Mastery points by leveling Warframes, weapons, companions and vehicles for the first time. Each item counts exactly once.

The fastest lever is weapons, not frames: cheaper, quicker to build, same points. If you want to catch up on frames, our list of the best beginner Warframes helps. They're easy to farm early and level up on the side.

Important: you have to take the Mastery test yourself. Your rank doesn't go up automatically. Miss that and you'll wonder why you still can't unlock the Warframe Helminth with a full Mastery bar.

โฑ๏ธ Hurdle 2: Entrati rank 3 (Associate)

Access to the Necralisk runs through the Heart of Deimos quest. After that, you start climbing Standing with the Entrati. For the Helminth Segment you need rank 3, called Associate.

You earn Standing through Cambion Drift bounties, Isolation Vaults and turn-ins to the family members. Each rank-up also costs a fee, and your daily Standing gain is capped by your Mastery Rank. This is where hurdle 1 and hurdle 2 overlap: a higher MR also raises your daily cap.

Plan on several days of play, not one evening. If you max out the daily cap every day, you'll get through it much faster.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Hurdle 3: 15,000 Standing and 24 hours of build time

Once you hit rank 3, Son sells the blueprint for 15,000 Standing. That's more than you earn in a day, so leave some buffer if you're also paying for rank-ups.

Then you build the segment in your Orbiter. The cost:

  • 50,000 Credits
  • 5 Velocipod
  • 20 Adramal Alloy
  • 5 Saturated Muscle Mass
  • 15 Ganglion
  • 24 hours build time (50 Platinum to rush)

All materials come from Deimos and pile up almost on their own while you farm Standing. Hoard extra Ganglion beyond what you need. More on why below.

โš ๏ธ Subsuming destroys your Warframe for good

This is the point many guides only mention in passing. The frame you put into the Helminth is consumed and gone afterward. It isn't disabled or locked, it's removed from your inventory.

What that means in practice:

  • You can only subsume fully built Warframes, not blueprints.
  • Prime and Umbra variants can't be subsumed.
  • The frame disappears from your inventory, and its slot frees up.
  • Your Mastery Rank stays untouched. You got those points the first time you leveled the frame.
  • One subsume takes 23 hours and can be rushed for 50 Platinum.
  • Subsuming only becomes available once the Helminth reaches rank 1 (Metamorphosis).

The iron rule: never feed your only copy of a Warframe. If you own one Rhino and subsume her, you have to farm her all over again. Build the frame a second time, level it and then put the copy into the Helminth. If you already own the Prime version of a frame, the regular one is the perfect candidate.

๐Ÿงฌ The cyst is not the unlock

The most common mix-up: the Helminth Cyst has nothing to do with unlocking. According to the community-run wiki, you catch it from an infected player or by sitting in the Helminth chair as Nidus or Nidus Prime. It doesn't give you access to ability transfers.

What the cyst does instead: it matures over seven days, 24 hours until it appears and six more until it's mature. If you drain it while a Kubrow is growing in the Incubator, the wiki says you get a Helminth Charger as a companion. A new cyst forms 24 hours later.

Short version: cyst means companion, segment means abilities. Only the segment answers how to unlock the Warframe Helminth and actually use it.

๐Ÿ’ก Buy it for 300 Platinum or unlock it yourself?

The built segment comes in a 300 Platinum Market bundle. The honest math:

Buying makes sense if you already have MR 8 but don't enjoy Deimos. You skip the Standing grind and the build time. What 300 Platinum doesn't replace: the Helminth still needs resources to feed on, and you still have to earn Metamorphosis yourself.

Unlocking it yourself makes sense in almost every other case. For 300 Platinum you get several Warframe slots, which you'll need for subsuming anyway.

The thinking error behind it: the segment isn't the expensive part. The frames you feed it afterward are, along with the resources the Helminth keeps eating.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What matters after you unlock it

The Helminth has its own ranks. It levels up when you feed it, transfer abilities or subsume frames. One subsume gives 1,600 XP. Feeding works through six Secretion types, Biotics, Synthetics, Calx, Oxides, Bile and Pheromones, plus Sentient Appetite.

And here's the data point hardly anyone mentions: the Helminth has preferences, and they decide the conversion rate.

PreferenceConversion
Preferredup to 30%
Special cases (Ganglion, Pustulite, Lucent Teroglobe)up to 60%
Neutral15%
Dislikeddown to 3%

The gap is huge. The same resource can give several times as much just because the timing is right. Preferences shift as you keep feeding the same thing, and each step takes 24 hours to recover. If you feed the same resource every day, you're burning materials. That's exactly why Ganglion is so valuable: it's a build material and top-tier food.

The follow-up upgrade is the Helminth Archon Shard Segment. The Veilbreaker quest gives you the blueprint. You build it with 50,000 Credits, 2 Entrati Lanthorn, 10 Devolved Namalon, 5 Sporulate Sac and 50 Thrax Plasm in 24 hours. It lets you slot Archon Shards for permanent stat bonuses. That's endgame material and pairs well with The Steel Path.

After that, other upgrades are worth it, such as Incarnon Genesis adapters for your weapons.

๐Ÿ’ก Warframe Helminth FAQ

What Mastery Rank do I need to unlock the Warframe Helminth?

Mastery Rank 8. You also need rank 3 (Associate) with the Entrati, otherwise Son won't sell you the blueprint.

What does the Helminth Segment cost?

15,000 Standing from Son, plus 50,000 Credits, 5 Velocipod, 20 Adramal Alloy, 5 Saturated Muscle Mass and 15 Ganglion. Then 24 hours of build time or 50 Platinum.

Can I get a subsumed Warframe back?

No. The frame is consumed for good and removed from your inventory. You'd have to farm and build it again. Prime and Umbra frames can't be subsumed in the first place.

Is the Helminth Cyst enough to use the Helminth?

No. The cyst is mainly used to breed a Helminth Charger. For abilities you need the segment.

Is 300 Platinum worth it for the built segment?

Only if you already have MR 8 and want to skip the Deimos grind. Otherwise that Platinum is better spent on Warframe slots. For a frame worth building a Helminth setup around, see our Follie guide.

As of October 2026. Costs, requirements, feeding rates and timings checked against the community-run wiki at wiki.warframe.com (pages Helminth and Helminth Archon Shard Segment). Values may change with future updates.
