Warframe Arbitrations Guide: Unlock, Rules and Vitus Essence

Since Update 39.0, Warframe Arbitrations unlock through a single Task in the Eris Junction on Pluto: equip a Focus Lens. After that you get an endless mission that rotates every hour, and once you die, you stay dead until your squad brings you back. The currency is Vitus Essence, which you trade for Galvanized mods, Arcanes, mods and cosmetics.

This guide covers what you need to get in, which rules apply in Arbitrations and how long you actually play for one mod. The math accounts for the reward table change from Update 41.1 in February 2026, which plenty of older guides still miss.

๐Ÿ”“ How to unlock Arbitrations: the Eris Junction

You used to need every node on the Star Chart. Digital Extremes changed that with Update 39 "Isleweaver" on June 25, 2025. The patch notes say: "Arbitrations are now unlocked upon completion of a Task in the Pluto > Eris Junction." According to DE, the Task is there to make sure players actually install their first Focus Lens.

Here is how to get there:

  1. Play the Star Chart up to Pluto and open the Junction leading to Eris.
  2. Complete the Task "Equip a Focus Lens", meaning you install a Focus Lens on a Warframe or a weapon. DE says your first Lens comes from the quest "The Second Dream".
  3. The Task reward is "Unlock Arbitrations". The game mode then shows up on the Star Chart.

You don't need the other Junction Tasks for this (six waves of Defense on Stรถfler, Lua, a locked Orokin Vault on Phlegyas, Deimos, and the quest "The War Within"). According to the patch notes, players who had already finished the Junction got the unlock delivered to their inbox. For help picking your Focus Lens, see our guide to the Focus Schools.

Only the community wiki mentions a second hurdle: you enter an Arbitration with a rank 30 Warframe or, from Mastery Rank 30 on, with a frame that has at least one Forma polarization. We found no confirmation from DE. Bring a fully leveled Warframe anyway, the enemies demand it.

โš–๏ธ How Warframe Arbitrations work

According to the community wiki, exactly one Arbitration is active at a time, and the node changes every hour. Only endless missions show up, and enemies start at level 60 to 80. Per the patch notes, Update 37 from October 2024 added Void Cascade, Void Armageddon, Void Flood, Alchemy, Mirror Defense and Conjunction Survival to the pool. Community reports say Defense, Survival, Excavation, Disruption and Interception come up most often.

Since Update 25.7, rewards follow the normal rotation pattern, with Excavation as the exception. DE changed the order from "ABCCCCCโ€ฆ" to "AABBCCCCCโ€ฆ" back then. From the fifth rotation on, you only get Rotation C. The community wiki says that in Excavation two Digs count as one reward round, and each Dig takes 180 seconds there.

There is also a random bonus. For each Arbitration, the game picks one Warframe and three weapons, according to the community wiki. The Warframe gets +300% Ability Strength and +500 Health, the weapons get +300% damage. The picks differ per player, so a wide arsenal pays off here.

๐Ÿ’€ The rules: death, drones and modifiers

The core of Arbitrations is the death rule. When your Health hits zero, you die instantly, per the community wiki, with no bleedout and no self-revive. The only way back is your squad. DE described the mechanic in the April 2019 "Arbitrations Update" announcement:

  • A revive tower appears where you died.
  • Your squadmates collect Resurgence Burdens from the Arbitration Drones.
  • Five Burdens have to reach the tower at the same time. They can't be dropped off one by one, so the squad has to go in together. It's all or nothing.

According to the community wiki, carrying a Burden weakens you (lower max Health and Shields, Energy drain), and you lose it if you die yourself. Abilities that save you from death don't work: Sacrifice, Inaros' Undying, Sevagoth's tombstone passive and Unairu's Last Gasp. Effects that keep you from going down in the first place, such as Nidus' Mutation stack passive or Wukong's survival techniques, still work.

Kill the Arbitration Drones first

The drones are the real problem in every room. The community wiki says up to five fly at once. Their beam makes nearby enemies and the drone itself immune to Warframe abilities, and they explode for 3,000 damage when they die. Shoot first, then cast.

Modifiers by mission type

Mission typeChange in Arbitrations (community wiki)
DefenseAn NPC agent follows one player, and the mission fails the moment it dies
SurvivalLife Support capsules only give 75% of the normal amount
InterceptionEnemies capture towers twice as fast
Excavation180 seconds per Dig, two Digs = one rotation
DisruptionDemolysts only beep at half range, marked at 15 instead of 30 meters

One thing to know before you quit: leaving the mission gives you nothing, per the community wiki. If the mission fails, you keep the rotation rewards you earned so far but lose the resources and credits picked up from enemies. Extract together instead of just aborting.

๐Ÿ’Ž Vitus Essence: where it comes from

Vitus Essence only drops in Arbitrations. The sources according to the community wiki and patch notes:

  • 1 Vitus Essence per completed rotation, guaranteed and on top of the reward table (community wiki).
  • 3 Vitus Essence from the reward table: Update 41.1 "Vauban Heirloom" on February 11, 2026 raised this chance from 7 to 10%, per the patch notes. Endo x1,500 went from 33 to 35% in the same change.
  • Arbitration Drones: a 6% chance to drop 1 Vitus Essence per kill. The community wiki says Update 30.5 doubled that from 3 to 6%, and the Essence stays on the ground for five minutes.

Our math: how many rotations for one Galvanized mod?

A Galvanized mod costs 20 Vitus Essence, according to the community wiki. Without drones you can expect 1 + 0.10 ร— 3 = 1.3 Vitus Essence per rotation (before Update 41.1 it was 1.21). That works out to about 15.4 rotations per mod. For a Survival mission with five minutes per rotation, we ran the numbers with assumed drone kills:

Drone kills per rotationVitus Essence per rotationRotations for 20 VitusSurvival play time
01.315.4about 77 minutes
101.910.5about 53 minutes
202.58.0about 40 minutes
303.16.5about 32 minutes

The drones are your biggest lever. If you kill every one and grab the Essence, you roughly halve the play time. All twelve Galvanized mods (240 Vitus Essence) take about 185 rotations without drones. The Update 41.1 patch notes don't name specific rotations, so we assume the 10% applies to A, B and C.

๐Ÿ›’ What Vitus Essence buys

You spend the Essence at the Arbiters of Hexis in any Relay, with no Standing requirement. In 2019, DE called it the Arbitrations Market. On offer:

  • Galvanized mods for rifle, shotgun, pistol and, since Update 37, melee too (Galvanized Steel, Galvanized Reflex, Galvanized Elementalist). All the stats are in our Galvanized mods guide.
  • Rotation rewards: Since Update 38.6 "Yareli Prime" (May 2025), every rotation reward except Omni Forma is in the store. That includes Arcane Pistoleer, Arcane Tanker, Arcane Bodyguard, Arcane Blade Charger and Arcane Primary Charger, plus the mods Combat Discipline, Aerodynamic, Shepherd, Melee Guidance and Swift Momentum.
  • Seeding Step Ephemera Blueprint: No longer a mission reward since Update 41.1, but the patch notes say it's still sold for Vitus Essence.
  • Cosmetics and Rivens: Archgun Rivens, Telos skins for Amprex, Atomos and Atterax, the Illumina Judicium light sculpture and the Judicial Oculus (DE announcement, 2019).

Apart from the 20 Vitus Essence for Galvanized mods, we couldn't pin down current prices with solid sources. Check them in game before you save up.

๐ŸŽฏ Who are Arbitrations for?

If you're close to the Steel Path, Arbitrations are the logical step in between. Level 60 to 80 is tough enough to test builds, and the Galvanized mods carry you through the Steel Path later. Without Forma and Catalysts it gets slow, and our beginner build guide shows the right order. Play your first runs with a tanky Warframe and with a squad. The death rule punishes solo plays harder than anything else.

โ“ Warframe Arbitrations FAQ

Do I need the full Star Chart for Arbitrations?

No. Since Update 39.0, the Task "Equip a Focus Lens" in the Eris Junction on Pluto is enough. The full Star Chart is now only required for the Steel Path.

Can I revive myself in Arbitrations?

No. Your squad has to collect five Resurgence Burdens from the Arbitration Drones and deliver them to the revive tower together.

Did Update 44 change anything in Arbitrations?

In the patch notes for Update 44 ("Iceblade of Narin", September 23, 2026) we only found one bug fix: in Arbitration Excavation, extraction appeared to be available after one Dig. The most recent reward change we found in the patch notes is Update 41.1 with the higher Vitus chance.

How often do Arbitrations rotate?

Every hour, according to the community wiki. Only one node is active at a time, and you can see the mission type in advance on the Star Chart.

Checked against the game as of October 2026, Hotfix 44.1.4.1 for "The Icebind". Sources: official Digital Extremes patch notes for Updates 24.8, 25.7, 37, 38.6, 39, 41.1 and 44, plus the DE announcement "Arbitrations Update" (April 2019). Death rules, drones, modifiers, the bonus and Galvanized mod prices come from the community wiki wiki.warframe.com, whose Arbitrations pages are partly out of date. The drone kill math is our own example calculation.
