SpaceCraft Xenic Protein: Recipe, Production Chain and Uses (2026)

SpaceCraft Xenic Protein: Recipe, Production Chain and Uses (2026)

SpaceCraft Xenic Protein sounds like astronaut food, but according to the recipe data it's an intermediate product. Plain Pulp turns into Xenic Protein, and that goes into two fertilizer recipes in the Chemical Factory.

This guide shows the documented recipe, the supply chain through the Xenic Farm and what the protein is actually used for.

๐Ÿงฌ The recipe: Plain Pulp becomes SpaceCraft Xenic Protein

According to the item databases, making it is simple but tied to one specific ingredient:

IngredientAmountResultStation
Plain Pulp1ร—at least 3ร— Xenic ProteinSeed Extractor
Recipe per our SpaceCraft item database (item ID Protein) and spacecraft.tools.

The result has a trade value of 1.00 credits, and its description calls it a biomolecule that forms amino acid chains, an important component of living organisms. The real effort isn't in this recipe but in the ingredient before it.

๐Ÿ”— Tracing the chain back: Wooly Korn โ†’ Spacekorn Seed โ†’ Plain Pulp

Plain Pulp is categorized as an organic by-product, and the database lists no crafting recipe for it. Its internal ID SpaceWheat_PlainPulp clearly ties it to Spacekorn, though: it's one of the Xenic Farm's harvest products. The route to new seeds is also documented:

  • Wooly Korn is a hard, fibrous husk that, according to its item description, needs a mill to extract the Spacekorn seeds inside.
  • Spacekorn Seeds come from 1 Wooly Korn at the Seed Extractor, together with 1 Thermal Wool, so at the same station. You need Thermal Wool for the Electric Heater (1) and the Cold-Protec Suit Chip (10), among others.
  • Spacekorn Seeds in turn go into Xenic Oil in the Chemical Factory (after the lab study Spacekorn Seed II) and a lab study.

Not documented is under which growing conditions the Xenic Farm yields Plain Pulp instead of Sour Pulp or Frost Pulp. You unlock the Xenic Farm itself at Science level 4 (Xenic Adaptation). More in the guide to Spacekorn and the Xenic Farm.

๐Ÿ– What Xenic Protein is really for: fertilizer, not astronaut food

The item database lists exactly two uses, both in the Chemical Factory and both with a hefty demand. Both unlock through the lab study Plain Pulp I:

FertilizerIngredientsResultStation
Acidic Fertilizer5ร— Sulphuric Acid + 10ร— Xenic Protein10ร—Chemical Factory
Carbonic Fertilizer5ร— Water + 1ร— a-Carbon + 10ร— Xenic Protein10ร—Chemical Factory
Recipes per our SpaceCraft item database (Fertilizer_Acidic, Fertilizer_Carbonic). Both fertilizers need 10 units per batch.

That's the real reason making it pays off at all: 10 units per fertilizer batch add up quickly once several fields run on the Xenic Farm. A community hint from the Steam discussion on the Xenic Farm fits: sour Spacekorn needs heat and Carbonic Fertilizer to grow, exactly the product the protein goes into. So fertilizer isn't mandatory for every variety, but according to the same player reports it affects the harvest amount.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What this means for your Xenic Farm

Because both fertilizer recipes run in the Chemical Factory and not in the Xenic Farm itself, you need two separate production lines: the Seed Extractor for Plain Pulp โ†’ Xenic Protein, and the Chemical Factory for Xenic Protein plus Sulphuric Acid or Water and a-Carbon โ†’ fertilizer. The Chemical Factory makes Sulphuric Acid itself from Water and Sulfur.

Once both lines run, it's worth automating them with drones and storage, as described in the base automation guide. Whether a multi-step chain beats buying is shown in the crafting chains guide.

๐Ÿ”„ Fertilizer without Xenic Protein

If you're short on Plain Pulp, there are two fertilizers that work without SpaceCraft Xenic Protein at all. Both unlock at Science level 4 (Xenic Adaptation), the same level as the Xenic Farm:

  • Neutral Fertilizer: 5 Sulphuric Acid and 10 Lime make 10 fertilizer.
  • Metallic Fertilizer: 5 Water, 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Aluminum Ingot make 10 fertilizer.

Which variety needs which fertilizer isn't officially documented. The only documented case is the player hint about sour Spacekorn needing Carbonic Fertilizer.

๐Ÿ’ก Practical tips

  • Count on at least 10 units per fertilizer batch, so 20 per cycle with two fertilizer types running.
  • Keep Sulphuric Acid in stock: it goes into both the Acidic and the Neutral Fertilizer. That lets you switch between the two when Plain Pulp runs short.
  • Since 1 Plain Pulp gives at least 3 units, plan up to 4 Plain Pulp for a single fertilizer batch (10). Be generous with your supply.
  • Only make fertilizer when a specific Spacekorn variety actually needs it (see sour Spacekorn). Otherwise you tie up material you can't use for anything else.
  • Before building the chain, check that the Chemical Factory (Plumbing permit) and the lab study Plain Pulp I are unlocked. If one is missing, that's your blocker, not the raw material.

โ“ FAQ: SpaceCraft Xenic Protein

Is Xenic Protein edible or crew food?
No, the database lists only two fertilizer recipes as uses, no food recipes. The item text only describes Spacekorn itself as a food source.

What do I make Xenic Protein from?
From Plain Pulp at the Seed Extractor. 1 Plain Pulp gives at least 3 Xenic Protein. Plain Pulp is a harvest product of the Xenic Farm.

What do I need the fertilizers from Xenic Protein for?
The documented link is for sour Spacekorn, which according to community reports needs Carbonic Fertilizer to grow. For other Spacekorn varieties, the exact fertilizer needs aren't officially documented.

Is there fertilizer without this protein?
Yes. Neutral Fertilizer (Sulphuric Acid and Lime) and Metallic Fertilizer (Water, Iron and Aluminum Ingots) don't need it. Both unlock at Science level 4.

As of October 2026, SpaceCraft Early Access v0.5.25674. Recipes and amounts checked against our SpaceCraft item database and spacecraft.tools, plus a community hint from the Steam discussion on the Xenic Farm. Recipes and names can change with patches.
