SpaceCraft Rockwood (Rockwood Root): Location and Uses Explained

SpaceCraft Rockwood consists of two entries: the resource node Rockwood Root and the item Rockwood Nut, which you need for a lab study. In the current version, not much more depends on it.

Based on the game data, this guide covers what Rockwood is, what's known about its location and use, and what isn't documented yet.

๐ŸŒฑ What is SpaceCraft Rockwood?

In SpaceCraft, "Rockwood" isn't a single item but the name shared by two related database entries: a resource and the item it yields.

EntryNameCategory
Resource nodeRockwood RootResource
Item (yield)Rockwood NutSeed-type item

The item description of the Rockwood Nut says that rockwood combines mineral and organic components in an unusual way and often produces complex mineral structures that are otherwise rare in nature. So Rockwood is a source with an organic-mineral character, not a plain ore vein like iron or copper. Its base value is 0 credits, and spacecraft.tools lists it at 0.1 SU. The Rockwood Nut isn't a trade good worth selling.

That dual nature is what causes confusion when searching. Ore sources like iron deposits carry a tier in the data, but Rockwood Root doesn't. spacecraft.tools lists it, like the Spacekorn Root, as a "Pump" type node with exactly one yield. So it behaves more like a plant than an ore vein.

The game data also has the Glowing Nodule, the Dream Sporule and Rough Bark in the same family. Only the Dream Sporule has a documented use: according to spacecraft.tools, the Seed Extractor turns 1 Dream Sporule into 15 to 31 Elmerium Dust, and its base value is 5.5 credits. Neither spacecraft.tools nor our database lists a recipe for the Glowing Nodule or Rough Bark.

๐Ÿช Where do you find Rockwood Root?

This guide has to be honest here rather than invent a planet: our SpaceCraft database currently lists no specific location for Rockwood Root and no linked mineable items. The record literally says that no mineable items are currently linked to this resource. Many resource entries were created during Early Access but haven't been fully filled in yet.

One hint can still be drawn from the data: Rockwood Root has a "time factor" of 2 in the database, like the Spacekorn Root that Spacekorn Seeds come from. That puts SpaceCraft Rockwood closer to the plant-like sources. That fits with spacecraft.tools listing the Rockwood plant as an unlock of the Rockwood Nut lab study. Until a source names a confirmed planet, the usual approach applies: locate it with the Resource Detector and identify it with the Scanalyzer. How that works is explained in the guide to finding resources.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What do you need the Rockwood Nut for?

In the recipe database, the Rockwood Nut appears as an ingredient in exactly one entry: an entry from the "Science" category, amount 1. spacecraft.tools lists this lab study as "Rockwood Nut I". You hand in a Rockwood Nut at the Laboratory for study and get Science experience in return, like with other lab studies. It isn't an ingredient for gear or ship parts.

In practice, you don't need large amounts. According to the database a single Rockwood Nut is enough for the study, and since its base value is 0, neither hoarding nor selling pays off. Once you've found one, take it along and study it in the Laboratory.

A documented example shows how such studies work in general: the study Calcified Invariant I uses 3 Calcified Invariants, runs for 2 minutes 30 seconds and gives 40 Science experience. Other studies also unlock recipes; Spacekorn Seed II, for example, unlocks Xenic Oil in the Chemical Factory. For Rockwood Nut I, spacecraft.tools lists two unlocks besides the Science experience: Water and the Rockwood plant. Where and how you grow the plant afterwards isn't covered by the data yet.

๐Ÿ”— Where Rockwood fits in the bigger chain

Since SpaceCraft Rockwood is currently neither worth selling nor part of a component chain, it plays hardly any role in production. How to refine the raw materials that actually feed chains is shown in the crafting chains guide. The basics of your own production are in the base automation guide.

๐Ÿ’ก Summary

  • Rockwood consists of two entries: Rockwood Root (resource) and Rockwood Nut (seed-type item).
  • The database currently lists no specific location, so only the usual search with detector and Scanalyzer helps.
  • The Rockwood Nut is needed for a lab study in the "Science" category (1ร—), which according to spacecraft.tools also unlocks the Rockwood plant.
  • Of the related entries, only the Dream Sporule has a use: 1 of them yields 15 to 31 Elmerium Dust in the Seed Extractor.
  • Base value 0 credits, not a trade good, not a crafting ingredient for gear.

โ“ FAQ: SpaceCraft Rockwood

Where do you find Rockwood Root in SpaceCraft?
The database currently lists no specific location or planet. Until a source names a confirmed spot, only the usual method helps: locate it with the Resource Detector and identify it with the Scanalyzer.

What do you need the Rockwood Nut for?
For a lab study in the "Science" category (1ร—), listed on spacecraft.tools as Rockwood Nut I. A single nut is enough, and the study also unlocks Water and the Rockwood plant.

Is it worth selling or hoarding Rockwood?
No. Its base value is 0 credits, and the Rockwood Nut is neither a trade good nor a crafting ingredient for gear or ship parts.

As of October 2026, SpaceCraft Early Access v0.5.25674. Checked against our SpaceCraft database and the spacecraft.tools game database. Rockwood is only partly documented in both sources, and the patch notes up to Major Update #1 don't mention it. Locations and studies can change with patches.
