SpaceCraft Tungsten: Wolframite, Mining and Uses (2026)
SpaceCraft tungsten comes from three sources: Tungsten Ore from Wolframite nodes, Tungsten Nuggets from the Tungsten Reduction, and a steady flow of ore from a Tungsten Deposit. You mainly need it for Unbendinium Ingots, a late-game alloy made together with platinum.
This guide sums up what the spacecraft.tools game database (v0.5.25674) and banrado's own SpaceCraft database confirm about tungsten. Where the data is thin, we say so, because SpaceCraft is in Early Access.
โ๏ธ SpaceCraft tungsten ore: what it is
Tungsten Ore is a metal ore worth 6 credits per unit that takes 5 SU of storage. The description of the Tungsten Ingot you smelt from it sums it up: a dense, hard metal with an exceptionally high melting point that is hard to work with, but an important part of many alloys.
The Smelter makes Tungsten Ingots in two ways, from ore or from nuggets. Each recipe unlocks when you first discover the matching resource:
| Recipe | Ingredients | Station | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1ร Tungsten Ingot | 2ร Tungsten Ore | Smelter | 5 s / 1:30 min |
| 1ร Tungsten Ingot | 4ร Tungsten Nugget | Smelter | 5 s / 1:30 min |
At 16 credits, the Tungsten Ingot is worth much more than the ore you put in. The Tungsten Nugget is worth 3.20 credits. spacecraft.tools lists all three tungsten items at level 7.
๐ช Where does SpaceCraft tungsten spawn? The nodes
The game data has three tungsten sources that actually yield something. A fourth entry, Large Wolframite, only appears in banrado's database and has no linked drop there:
| Source | Type and tier | Yield according to spacecraft.tools |
|---|---|---|
| Wolframite | node, tier 5 | 1โ2 Tungsten Ore (98.4% chance), plus 4โ5 Iron Nuggets and rare extras such as Hematite, Quartz or Diamond |
| Tungsten Reduction | node, tier 5 | 5โ7 Tungsten Nuggets (always), rarely Aquamarine or Diamond |
| Tungsten Deposit | deposit, tier 1 | Tungsten Ore, 60 per hour |
| Large Wolframite | โ | no linked drop |
Worth knowing when you plan: by quantity, almost two thirds of a Wolframite node's output is Iron Nuggets, and only about 35% is Tungsten Ore. The Tungsten Reduction, on the other hand, gives almost nothing but Tungsten Nuggets.
The Tungsten Deposit is the only source with a fixed extraction rate. The databases don't name any specific planets or sectors. How searching works in general, Mining Bureau versus scanning yourself, is covered in our guide to finding resources.
โ๏ธ Mining SpaceCraft tungsten: what you should know
- Tier 5 means late game. Wolframite and Tungsten Reduction are both tier 5 nodes. banrado's database also lists Mining Bureau level 4 for Tungsten Ore from Wolframite. What that level means in game isn't officially documented.
- The Tungsten Reduction is probably underwater. Its description says it forms under deep currents, and its internal ID contains "Underwater". Wolframite and the Tungsten Deposit have no such condition.
- Keep nuggets in mind. Four Tungsten Nuggets replace two Tungsten Ore in the Smelter. At 5โ7 nuggets per node, a Tungsten Reduction is worth mining when you find one.
- Iron comes along. If you mine Wolframite, leave cargo space for the Iron Nuggets.
๐ฆ What you need SpaceCraft tungsten for
The Tungsten Ingot goes into exactly one follow-up recipe, but it's an important one:
| Product | Ingredients | Station | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6ร Unbendinium Ingot | 4ร Platinum Ingot, 4ร Tungsten Ingot, 1ร Silicon Ingot | Smelter (30 s / 3 min) | Modular Systems 3 permit |
This is the confirmed link between tungsten and platinum. The Unbendinium Ingot, described in game as a mysterious alloy critical to humankind's spacefaring logistics, needs both ingots in equal amounts. If you're looking for a single "tungsten and platinum" mining spot, you're really looking for the combination this recipe asks for.
Unbendinium in turn goes into two Workshop recipes: the High-Grade Metal Sheet (1 Unbendinium per craft) and the Unbending Beam (3 per craft). So tungsten lands late in the chain, as a precursor for high-end structural parts and sheets. For the other late-game metals, see our guides to titanium and vanadium.
๐ก FAQ: SpaceCraft tungsten
Where do I find tungsten in SpaceCraft?
In Wolframite nodes (Tungsten Ore next to a lot of iron), in the Tungsten Reduction (Tungsten Nuggets) and in Tungsten Deposits, which yield 60 ore per hour. Both node types are tier 5.
Can I mine tungsten without water?
Yes. Only the Tungsten Reduction is tied to deep currents. Wolframite and the Tungsten Deposit have no such condition.
Do the Tungsten Reduction and the Tungsten Deposit actually yield anything?
Yes. According to spacecraft.tools, the Tungsten Reduction gives 5โ7 Tungsten Nuggets per node and the Tungsten Deposit 60 Tungsten Ore per hour.
Is there a tungsten and platinum mining spot?
A single node that gives both ores isn't documented. The connection is in the recipe: the Unbendinium Ingot needs four Platinum Ingots and four Tungsten Ingots.
๐ Quick summary
- SpaceCraft tungsten ore comes from Wolframite (tier 5, lots of iron on the side) and from Tungsten Deposits (60 per hour).
- Tungsten Nuggets come from the Tungsten Reduction, most likely underwater.
- Tungsten Ingots go into Unbendinium Ingots together with Platinum and Silicon Ingots, and from there into High-Grade Metal Sheets and Unbending Beams.
More SpaceCraft guides are on the SpaceCraft overview.
As of October 2026, SpaceCraft Early Access v0.5.25674. Checked against the spacecraft.tools game database (nodes, yields, recipes, unlocks) and banrado's own SpaceCraft database. The patch notes up to Major Update #1 don't mention tungsten. Locations and values can change with patches, and since the databases name no specific planets or sectors, we left those out on purpose.
