- โ FAQ: Zombies in Graveyard Keeper 2
A Graveyard Keeper 2 zombie gets more useful the more red skulls it has: every red skull is one perk slot, and the collar decides how many red skulls a corpse can have at most. White skulls, on the other hand, don't matter for your undead workers.
This guide explains skulls, collars and their limits, organs as your main lever, perks and talent trees, gear and work stations. What we tested in the German version of the game ourselves is marked as confirmed. Community wiki data is labeled.
โฐ๏ธ What You Need for a New Zombie
Raising happens at the Resurrection Table in the Resurrection Lab. According to the community wiki, every additional zombie needs five things:
- A complete corpse with all six organs: skull, brain, heart, guts, bones and skin. If a Surgeon's Error has replaced an organ, the table rejects the body for good.
- One Reanimation Liquid: 2 red, 1 green, 4 blue in Laboratory II. We saw the tech for it in the game, and the mix is in our Graveyard Keeper 2 alchemy guide.
- A matching collar, more on that below.
- Faith for the resurrection.
- The right weekday: according to the community wiki, the device only has power on Envy day.
According to the community wiki, you get five zombies without a corpse of your own: two from the Plague Doctor's quest line and three from Gunter.
๐ Red and White Skulls in Graveyard Keeper 2
According to the community wiki, red skulls stand for corruption. They're bad for your graveyard, but for a Graveyard Keeper 2 zombie they're what matters most. The number of perk slots equals the number of red skulls, and the worker's menu shows it as "Perks x/5". A body with no red skull can't carry a single perk.
White skulls do nothing for your zombie, according to the community wiki. They're purely a graveyard value. If you're only preparing corpses for raising, you can ignore white skulls.
According to the community wiki, the number of red skulls on delivered corpses rises with the main quest: 0 to 1 at first, later 1 to 5, and later still 3 to 7. That's why a collar that was fine early on can suddenly be too weak.
โ๏ธ Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Collars and Their Limits
In Graveyard Keeper 2 the collar caps how many red skulls a body can have. If the corpse is above that, the table refuses to raise it.
| Collar | Max red skulls | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze Zombie Collar | 5 | confirmed in game |
| Golden Zombie Collar | 10 | community wiki |
| Steel Zombie Collar | 99 | community wiki |
Our test: a corpse with 6 red skulls couldn't be raised with the Bronze collar. A single skull over the limit is enough. The Golden collar sits in the Reanimation II tech, together with Golden ingot and a scroll. Reanimation III (300 blue points) shows a collar with a blue stone, most likely the Steel collar. According to the community wiki, the steel itself needs a steel tech that only unlocks at 70 reputation with Jack.
Our advice: Bronze is enough to start. Once your corpses regularly arrive with more than five red skulls, the Golden collar pays off, because otherwise you're throwing good bodies away.
๐ฉธ More Red Skulls: Organs, Blood and Injections
A corpse's red skulls live in its organs. According to the community wiki, a single organ carries at most 3 red skulls. The six best versions together give 18 red, plus Blood and Fat at +1 red each. That puts the theoretical maximum at 20 red skulls.
You can push it on purpose like this:
- Organ Improver (confirmed in game): red liquid with a red skull on the label, and the tooltip says it makes the best red organ. Rune total 4 red and 1 green, for example from Stone plus Copper Nugget. There's also a green version (4 green) that carries a white skull on the label, according to the community wiki.
- Injection for Zombies (tiers I to III): according to the community wiki, +1 to +3 red and at the same time โ1 to โ3 white.
Careful during autopsies: according to the community wiki, a failed operation replaces the organ with a Surgeon's Error worth โ1 red and โ1 white. The table rejects a corpse with one of those when you try to raise it.
Our test: our worker "Fledder-Ferdi" ended up with 10 white and 10 red skulls. Ten red sits exactly at the limit the community wiki gives for the Golden collar, and it means ten perk slots.
โญ Perks and Talent Trees in Graveyard Keeper 2
Every zombie has five talent trees of its own, shown in the game as tabs with icons: hammer (Building), gear, leaf (Farming), book and skull (Anatomy). The community wiki lists the gear tree as Smithing and the book tree as Book writing.
Perks aren't paid with your own points. The zombie earns colored points itself while it works or fights. According to the community wiki, they go into its personal pool and can't be moved to another zombie. You buy the nodes yourself in the worker's menu.
An example from the Building tree, confirmed in game: the Tailor costs 100 red points and means fewer fabric scraps and more finished pieces. It only works for that one worker at its station. How that plays out in the fabric chain is in our Graveyard Keeper 2 fabric guide.
For the church there are three musician perks, Novice Musician, Skilled Musician and Maestro, which work at the choir or the organ. Why Agatha's quest gets stuck without a singing undead is explained in our Graveyard Keeper 2 choir guide.
According to the community wiki, perk nodes cost between 10 and 500 points of one color, and child nodes require their parent. A bad early pick locks the whole branch. So plan a fixed job for each Graveyard Keeper 2 zombie before you spend points.
๐ก๏ธ What a Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Can Carry
According to the community wiki, a zombie without a tool stands at its station and does nothing. The right tool in hand is mandatory, and it raises the zombie's mastery at the same time:
- Rusty Axe or Rusty Pickaxe: +1 Building
- bronze axe: +2 Building, bronze hammer: +2 Smithing, bronze shovel: +2 Farming
- steel tools: up to +6
These values come from the community wiki. A tool only helps in its own line. An axe at the writing desk does nothing.
Weapons have a hard limit we checked in the game: zombies can only carry pikes and bows, no swords. A sword simply can't be equipped. For fighters there's also the Zombie Motivator Potion from the lab, which halves their attack interval according to the community wiki.
๐ญ Work Stations
Zombies work at lots of stations in Graveyard Keeper 2. These uses are confirmed in the game or checked in our earlier guides:
- Spinning Wheel and Weaving Loom for the fabric chain
- Choir in the church (up to five spots according to community sources)
- Zombie Supplier Station from the alchemy lab's build menu, which supplies the other workers in its zone according to the community wiki
The community wiki also lists stations that run without any material and only need a tool:
| Station | Produces | Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Zombie Stone Quarry | Stone | pickaxe |
| Lumberjack stand | logs and Sticks | axe |
| Zombie Miner | Iron Ore and Coal | pickaxe |
| Clay Digger Stand | Clay | shovel |
| Sand Digger Stand | Sand | shovel |
| Gardener Stand | sows and harvests beds | shovel |
One rule for every station: according to the community wiki, a zombie only keeps working if its zone has a staffed supplier station. Plan one supplier per zone before you add more workers.
โ FAQ: Zombies in Graveyard Keeper 2
Why can't I raise my corpse?
Usually it has more red skulls than the collar allows. Bronze only goes up to 5. Other reasons according to the community wiki: a missing organ, no Reanimation Liquid or the wrong weekday.
What are red skulls good for?
Every red skull is one perk slot. More red skulls mean a more specialized worker.
Do white skulls do anything?
Not for zombies. According to the community wiki they only count for graves.
Who pays for the perks?
The worker itself, with points it earns while working or fighting. Your own tech points stay untouched.
Can zombies carry swords?
No. In the game only pikes and bows can be equipped.
Why isn't my zombie working?
Either it's missing the right tool, or there's no staffed supplier station in its zone.
Checked against the German game as of October 2026: the Bronze collar limit (corpse with 6 red skulls rejected), perk slots equal to red skulls, the five talent tree tabs, the Tailor and musician perks, the Organ Improver, the Reanimation II and III tech nodes, the pike-and-bow weapon limit and our worker with 10 white and 10 red skulls. Golden and Steel limits, organ values, injections, tool bonuses, the station list and resurrection requirements come from the community wiki graveyard-keeper.wiki, English names from wikily.gg.
