Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm Tier 3: Battle, Lace and Tech

Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm Tier 3: Battle, Lace and Tech

To get Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm to tier III, you first have to win the first town battle, because only after that does Herm offer the quest "The Frill of the Chase". For that quest you hand him exactly one Lace, which you either sew at the Sewing Table or buy cheaply from the Tailor.

None of the guides we found put both together: the usual quest guides only mention the Lace, not the battle before it. Here you get the full order of steps, the real material amounts and a shortcut through the Tailor.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm: His Tiers at a Glance

Herm is the merchant in the village. His tiers don't go up through trade volume or village favor, only through quests. Sell him goods for hours and you won't move a single step. That mechanic is from the first game and no longer applies in Graveyard Keeper 2. In the trade menu the tiers show up as Tier I to Tier III.

TierUnlocked byMoney per dayGoods
IQuest "Supply and Demand"1 silver2
IIQuest "Planted and Delivered" (5 Wheat)2 silver15
IIIQuest "The Frill of the Chase" (1 Lace)3 silver22

Tier III adds a Jug of Milk, Grape Seeds, seedlings for apple tree, blueberry, rhododendron and bush, and Flax Thread. If you want to plant an apple tree, there's no way around getting Herm to tier III.

โš”๏ธ Step 1: Win the First Town Battle

This is the part almost every guide skips. Before the first battle, the Lace quest simply doesn't appear at Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm, no matter how much tech you've unlocked. We checked that in the game ourselves. Third-party quest guides don't mention this condition.

Town battles in Graveyard Keeper 2 happen on fixed weekdays, right in the town's streets. Every street you win becomes part of the town and can then be restored and filled with shops. Here's how to prepare:

  • Zombie squads with the right training and gear, not just as many as possible.
  • Building material for towers and barricades.
  • Your own gear: according to a community walkthrough, a bow alone doesn't pass the gear check. You need a sword and armor.

For the first battle at the port you need Barracks quality 12, a Magic bell, 12 defense power and one squad. We confirmed these requirements in the game.

๐Ÿงช Step 2: The Tech in the Farming Tree

Lace sits at the end of a three-node chain in the Farming tab. You have to unlock the Fabric node even though Lace doesn't use any Fabric. It's just the prerequisite for Sewing Basics.

NodeCostUnlocks
Flax Thread45 green pointsFlax Thread recipe, Spinning Wheel
Fabric60 green pointsFabric recipe, Weaving Loom
Sewing Basics80 green pointsLace recipe, Sewing Table

That's 185 green points in total. According to the community database, Garden Improvement I (30 green points) comes before Flax Thread, in case you don't have it yet. You can unlock the tech before the battle, so you're ready the moment the quest appears.

โš’๏ธ Step 3: Build the Stations

All three stations are in the garden build menu, under the tab with the thread spool icon. To finish them you need a hammer and Building mastery 2. You don't need the Weaving Loom for Lace, so you can save it for later.

StationBuild costNeeded for Lace?
Spinning Wheel3 Wooden Plank, 8 Stick, 12 Bronze Nailsyes
Sewing Table6 Wooden Plank, 2 Polished Bronze, 4 Advanced Detailyes
Weaving Loom4 Wooden Plank, 2 Polished Bronze, 8 Bronze Nailsno

We checked the build costs in the build menu. A few English guides list Iron Detail for the Sewing Table. That's wrong: in the game it asks for Wooden Plank, Polished Bronze and Advanced Detail.

๐Ÿฉธ Step 4: What One Lace Really Costs

The Lace recipe at the Sewing Table takes 8 Flax Thread for one Lace. You spin the thread from Flax at the Spinning Wheel. The exact ratio, checked in the game, is in our Graveyard Keeper 2 fabric guide.

There's a second hurdle: the Lace recipe needs mastery 5 at the Sewing Table. The tech alone isn't enough, so you have to work at the Sewing Table until you hit that level.

You get Flax two ways. A flax bed takes 4 seeds and doesn't need watering. Herm sells the seeds from tier II. Or the Tailor sells raw Flax for 7 bronze each.

๐Ÿ’ก The Shortcut: Buy Lace From the Tailor

The Tailor already stocks Lace at Tier I, 20 in stock at 1 silver 25 bronze each. We checked that in the trade menu. That saves you the Spinning Wheel, the Sewing Table, the Flax and the mastery grind.

At Tier I the Tailor also sells Flax Seed for 4 bronze, Flax for 7 bronze and a Universal bag for 10 silver. The Tailor is one of three market stands unlocked through the Market Stalls I tech. Each stand costs 4 Building Kit I, 3 Wooden Kit I and 1 Iron Kit I. Herm takes the bought Lace without any problem, it's the same item as the one you sew yourself. We tested that in the game.

โœจ Step 5: Hand Over the Lace

Talk to Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm in the village and hand over the Lace in the dialogue. After that, Tier III is unlocked in the trade menu and the bigger range is available right away. The short version once more:

  • Win the first town battle, then the quest appears.
  • Unlock Flax Thread, Fabric and Sewing Basics (185 green points).
  • Build the Spinning Wheel and the Sewing Table.
  • Spin 8 Flax Thread and get the Sewing Table to mastery 5.
  • Sew 1 Lace, or simply buy it from the Tailor, and give it to Herm.

โ“ FAQ: Graveyard Keeper 2 Herm

Why doesn't Herm have the Lace quest for me?

"The Frill of the Chase" only appears after your first won town battle. Before that you can prepare tech and materials, but you can't hand anything in.

Can I just buy the Lace?

Yes. The Tailor sells it from Tier I for 1 silver 25 bronze, and Herm accepts the bought Lace for the quest.

Does Herm's tier go up through trading?

No. In Graveyard Keeper 2, trader tiers only go up through quests. Buying and reselling was a tactic from the first game.

How much Lace does Herm need?

Exactly one. You need more Lace later, for example 20 for the Luxury Drapes in the quest "Lust and Envy".

How much Flax Thread do I need for one Lace?

Eight Flax Thread at the Sewing Table.

Do I have to build the Weaving Loom?

No. You have to unlock the Fabric tech because Sewing Basics builds on it. The loom itself isn't needed for Lace.

What does Herm offer at tier III?

He then has 22 instead of 15 goods, including milk, Grape Seeds and several seedlings like the Apple Tree Seedling, and he earns 3 silver per day.

Checked against the German version of the game as of October 2026. Tiers, recipes and build costs were compared with the community database wikily.gg, which is also the source for the English names. Confirmed in the game: the quest only unlocks after the first town battle and its requirements, the tech chain in the Farming tree, the build costs of the three stations, the Tailor's stock and handing in a bought Lace. Community data is marked in the text.
