With Update 1.4 (version 1.4.0.0 from May 19, 2026, released alongside the "Water Wars" DLC), Funcom added two new locations to the Overland Map of Arrakis in Dune Awakening. The testing station The Old Quarry with its boss Dr. Jalanta is aimed at combat players. The second one, the Dune Awakening Wind Pass, is all about politics, sabotage and the planet's most valuable resource: water. This guide covers what the place is, who controls it and the five new Landsraad missions waiting there.
๐บ๏ธ What Is the Dune Awakening Wind Pass?
Wind Pass is a windswept canyon village that used to be a Harkonnen tech outpost. Since Update 1.4, it's controlled by the Water Shippers, specifically the Yafeng family, an old Water Shipper dynasty, and it has become a central hub of the water trade on Arrakis. On the Overland Map, it's classified as a Minor Landmark: a smaller, mission-bound location, not a freely accessible settlement like Arrakeen or Harko Village.
Important before you head out: you can't just drop into Wind Pass on a fly-by. Access is tied to an active Landsraad mission that leads to this exact location. Without an accepted mission, you can't get in. As with any other Overland destination, you get there by ornithopter, and you leave the same way at the end of every mission: "Escape from Wind Pass" is the final step in all five.
๐ง The Yafengs and the Secret Beneath the Settlement
In Wind Pass, the Yafengs don't just run the visible water logistics (cisterns, water pumps, loading stations). They also operate an underground Greenhouse. Root tubers are grown there to offset water shortages after an accident damaged the facility: a suspensor field above a harvested asteroid collapsed, the rock fell at full gravity onto the facility and damaged both the water processing and the settlement's spy sensor network.
The explosive part: internal reports suggest that water extracted from the newly bred, heat-resistant tubers contains unknown compounds whose origin and long-term effects haven't been verified. R&D has explicitly not cleared the current batch for sale. Even so, management under Ksenia Yafeng is pushing to get it to market faster. That conflict between profit pressure and safety is the thread running through several of the new missions. If you want the bigger picture on water, see our water guide.
๐ญ Locations Inside Wind Pass
The settlement is compact and spread across several stations that come up repeatedly as mission objectives:
- Central guard post: a security terminal with staff locations, plus the relay mast on the roof.
- The Mill: Chief Engineer Ren Qaoli's operations station, central to several mission objectives.
- Control Center: the control hub for the spice lighters' asteroid intercept.
- Field Engineering Workshop: a workshop where a new ore extractor for asteroid ore is being developed.
- Greenhouse: the underground facility with the root tuber crops and the attached R&D lab.
- Water storage with cisterns and a launch pad above the Mill for the spice lighters.
๐ All 5 Landsraad Missions in Wind Pass
Along with the location, five new Landsraad missions arrived in Dune Awakening, one per specialization (Sabotage, Combat, Exploration, Gathering, Crafting). All of them take place in the same spot and together tell the story of the accident and the Yafengs' schemes:
| Mission | Specialization | What it's about |
|---|---|---|
| Poisoning the Well | Sabotage | Poison a marked cistern and falsify the shipping manifest so the poisoned shipment goes to a rival delegation. |
| The Price of Water | Combat | Take out Chief Engineer Ren Qaoli and deputy operations lead Kade Rin, and sabotage a spice lighter's asteroid intercept course. |
| Rockfall | Exploration | After the asteroid accident, restore the settlement's destroyed spy sensor network and transmit the data against the clock. |
| Rock and Roots | Gathering | Investigate the accident, secure root tuber samples from the underground Greenhouse and write a report on the Yafengs' water production. |
| Rare Metals | Crafting | Steal a schematic for an ore extractor, build a prototype yourself and quietly tamper with the Yafengs' original schematic. |
All five missions are solo infiltration and gathering tasks with no forced grouping, unlike the boss fight in The Old Quarry. How the Landsraad system works as a whole (factions, votes, reward tiers) is explained in our Landsraad guide.
๐ฐ Rewards: What the Wind Pass Missions Pay
According to the community wiki, each of the five Wind Pass missions pays this base reward per completion:
- 350 character XP
- 6,000 Solaris
- 1,000 Landsraad Contribution for your house
If you still have a Mnemonic Recollection banked when you finish, the community wiki says it's consumed automatically. On top of the base reward, you then get 1,000 House Scrip, 75 Faction Standing and 125 specialization XP in that mission's category.
You receive 5 Recollections per day, up to 35 banked. Details are in our guide to Landsraad missions and Mnemonic Recollection.
The Landsraad mission system has existed since Chapter 3 (Update 1.3 from February 3, 2026), according to the community wiki with up to 20 faction ranks. Funcom's Update 1.5 announcement (September 17, 2026) only sums it up. Funcom doesn't break down whether individual mission rewards changed with Update 1.5.
At the launch of Update 1.4 there was also a limited-time community challenge called "Secrets of the Water Shippers": the community collectively racked up Old Quarry runs and Landsraad missions in Wind Pass. According to the community wiki, both milestones were reached, and the weapon rewards went automatically to everyone who logged in between June 3 and July 2, 2026.
The event ran from May 22 to June 1, 2026 and is over. If you missed it, the missions still reliably pay the Solaris, XP and Landsraad rewards listed above.
๐งญ Getting There: What to Know Before You Fly
- Accept the mission first: since Wind Pass can only be entered with an active Landsraad mission, grab the mission at the Landsraad board before you take off.
- Plan for an ornithopter: without your own or a borrowed ornithopter, you won't get there at all. Our ornithopter guide shows the fastest way to your own.
- Loot the containers: according to the item database, crates in the settlement can drop ready-made Spice-infused Fuel Cells with some luck, the fuel for your base's Spice-Powered Generator. Worth grabbing.
- Also from Update 1.4: The Old Quarry. The testing station with Dr. Jalanta sits on the outskirts of the Polar Sink according to the community wiki and is entered separately.
- Environmental hazards: Funcom removed sun exposure in Wind Pass with Patch 1.4.10.0, but still bring enough water for the walk back to your ornithopter.
- Park your ornithopter smartly: since every mission ends with "Escape from Wind Pass", it pays to leave it somewhere safe and easy to reach.
๐ Why Wind Pass Is Worth Your Time
For PvE players, the Dune Awakening Wind Pass is currently one of the densest new mission sets in the game: five different specializations, an ongoing story around the Yafengs' water tampering and solid, predictable rewards per run. If you're collecting Landsraad Contribution for your house anyway, put all five missions on your list. They're easy to finish solo, since they're mainly infiltration and gathering tasks, not mandatory group content like a dungeon boss.
And because the missions are connected, it's worth doing them in sequence rather than at random. That way the story of the asteroid accident and the covered-up water quality makes the most sense.
