Fallout 76 4-Star Mod Not Working: Pounder's, Power of the Cell and the 2026 Patch Status

If your 4-star mod is not working in Fallout 76, the patch status is the first thing to know: The Slasher (version 1.7.26.13) has been live since September 15, 2026. The patch list on fallout.wiki also shows version 1.7.26.22 from October 1, 2026, whose content we couldn't check. Bethesda's update notes for The Slasher don't mention Pounder's or Power of the Cell. Before you keep waiting for a fix, separate two questions: is the mod broken, or does it do something other than you think?

📊 The Patch Status You Need to Know

This is the data point most threads skip. Between July 21 and September 15, 2026, nothing changed in the game client, and since then there have been two client patches.

DateWhat happenedLive?
Jul 21, 2026update 1.7.25.39, bug fixes onlyyes
Jul 31, 2026Infestations balance adjustment, server-side, no client patchyes, numbers only
Aug 1 to Sept 14, 2026no client patch–
Sept 15, 2026The Slasher, version 1.7.26.13, with Season 26 and native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versionsyes
Oct 1, 2026version 1.7.26.22 per the fallout.wiki patch list, content not checkedyes, per fallout.wiki

The fan site Nuka Knights counts The Slasher as “Patch 70.” Bethesda uses the update name and version number, not consecutive patch numbers. For legendary items The Slasher raised, among other things, the weapon sell price from 5/15/40/50 to 15/25/50/150 caps and the scrip from scrapping from 1/2/4/6 to 3/5/10/30. More in our Fallout 76 Patch 70 overview.

The practical consequence: if your mod has behaved differently since mid-September, that can come from The Slasher or from the October 1 patch listed on fallout.wiki. Read the update notes before you suspect a bug. If you notice new behavior between two patches, it's more likely that something changed in your setup, your buffs or your perception.

⚒️ 4-Star Mod Not Working: Real Bug or Misunderstanding?

With 4-star mods, three sources of error constantly get mixed up, and they all feel the same:

  • Conditions you don't meet. Many legendary effects only trigger under certain conditions: a health state, an ammo or weapon class, consecutive hits, a target type. If the condition isn't met, nothing happens, with no error message.
  • Effects you can't see. A mod that gives a percentage boost often changes the damage number over an enemy by only a few points. Without a comparison you won't notice.
  • Display vs. effect. The damage value in the Pip-Boy and the actual damage aren't the same thing in Fallout 76. More on that below.

Only once you've ruled out all three is it worth saying “that's a bug.” What the individual 4-star effects do and where they come from is in our Fallout 76 4-star mods guide.

🧪 The Test Range Checklist: How to Really Check Your 4-Star Mod

This order takes ten minutes and replaces gut feeling with a measurement.

  1. Turn off everything that changes damage. No food buffs, no chems, no alcohol, no active mutation bonuses, no armor sets with damage effects. Every active buff skews the comparison.
  2. Check your perk loadout. A wrongly loaded loadout is the most common cause of “my build suddenly does less damage.” Check the cards one by one, not just the loadout name.
  3. Pick a fixed reference enemy. Same enemy type, same level, same distance, same body part. A ghoul in the open beats a boss in an event, because nobody else is shooting.
  4. Count at least ten hits, not one. Damage numbers vary through crits, hit zones and resistances. A single shot proves nothing.
  5. A/B test on the same target. Use the same weapon type once with and once without the mod in question, right after each other, from the same spot. The difference has to be reproducible.
  6. Rejoin the server. Many effects depend on states that reset when you switch servers. If the mod works after rejoining, it was a session issue, not a broken mod.
  7. Check display against effect. Only when the measured effect is missing is the mod suspect. If only the display is off, it's a UI bug, and those demonstrably exist.

⚠️ Display vs. Effect Is Real: Bethesda Fixed It Itself

This isn't a community myth. The official patch notes from July 21, 2026, explicitly list a fix for receiver mods that showed wrong damage values in the interface. The wrong ammo type on the LMG Critical .308 Receiver was fixed too. Both are display bugs, not effect bugs: the weapon did what it should before, just not what the screen said.

Applied to your problem: if you base the verdict “broken” only on a number in a menu, you're on shaky ground. Measure the damage on the enemy.

🩸 4-Star Mod Not Working on Pounder's or Power of the Cell?

Both names came up regularly in the Fallout 76 Steam discussions as of August 16, 2026: “Pounders 4★ doesn't seem to be working” and “Bug in Power of the Cell.” Those are community reports, not confirmed bugs. Neither effect is in the official known issues of the July patch, and Bethesda hasn't acknowledged either as a bug publicly. The update notes for The Slasher from September 15 don't mention them either.

The July patch lists exactly one known issue officially: missing French voice-over for the Burning Springs update. That's it. If you're waiting for official confirmation of your mod problem, you're waiting for something that doesn't exist so far.

🎯 Head Hunts: Officially Fixed, Still Reported

The most telling case from the July patch is Head Hunts. Bethesda explicitly listed them as fixed in the July 21 update: they should now complete correctly once the targets are down, and the boss loot for Foreman and Corporal Jane was corrected too.

Still, threads titled “Head Hunt still bugged” kept coming after the patch. That gap between an official fix and continued reports is the most useful point in this guide: an entry in the patch notes doesn't prove your problem is gone. It also means some reports can come from other causes, like leftover states in running missions or a different bug that just looks similar.

In practice: if your Head Hunt hangs, abandon it and pick it up again after a server switch instead of fighting on.

💡 What to Play Until a Fix Arrives

Your 4-star mod is not working and you're waiting for a fix? The fall update has been live since September 15. Bethesda had announced more Infestations changes for it on July 31, after balance had already been touched twice: in the July 21 patch and server-side on July 31, with lower boss health, fewer legendary drops from non-bosses and more ammo drops. The Slasher notes add, among other things, that the visibility of discovered Infestations can now be toggled in the settings. As long as your mod problem doesn't appear in any update notes:

  • Don't rebuild your whole setup around a suspicious mod. Keep a second weapon without the effect in question, so a possible bug doesn't cost you your evening.
  • Rely on effects that measurably work. What's reliable right now is in our Fallout 76 best builds guide.
  • Farm replacements instead of waiting. How to keep the supply coming is in our Fallout 76 legendary farming guide.
  • Report the bug with measurements. A report with an A/B comparison, weapon, ammo and enemy type is far more useful than “doesn't work.”

❓ FAQ: 4-Star Mod Not Working

Was there a Fallout 76 patch in August 2026?

No. Between July 21, 2026 (version 1.7.25.39) and September 15, 2026 (version 1.7.26.13, The Slasher) there was no client patch. On July 31 there was only a server-side Infestations balance adjustment without a client update.

Is Pounder's officially confirmed as broken?

No. There are community reports in the Steam discussions, but no confirmation from Bethesda and no entry in the known issues. The Slasher update notes don't mention Pounder's either.

Are Head Hunts fixed now or not?

Officially yes, per the July 21 patch notes. The community still reports problems. Both can be true if a second, similar-looking bug is behind the reports.

How do I recognize a pure display bug?

The mod measurably works on the enemy, but the number in the menu doesn't match. Bethesda fixed exactly such cases for receiver mods on July 21.

Is “Patch 70” live yet?

Yes. What Nuka Knights calls Patch 70 has been live since September 15, 2026, as The Slasher (version 1.7.26.13), together with Season 26, “Beware the Blood Moon.” The fallout.wiki patch list also shows version 1.7.26.22 from October 1, 2026; we haven't checked its content.

Is the native PS5 and Xbox Series version out?

Yes. Per the update notes for The Slasher, the native versions for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 have been available in the stores since September 15, 2026. More in our Fallout 76 next-gen update guide.

All patch dates, version numbers and fixes in this guide were checked against the official update notes from July 21, 2026, on fallout.bethesda.net and the Fallout 76 Steam news feed as of August 2026. The patch status from September on was added in October 2026, based on the update notes for The Slasher and the patch list on the community-run fallout.wiki. The mod problems with Pounder's, Power of the Cell and Head Hunts come from community Steam discussions and aren't confirmed by Bethesda.
