Fallout 76 Patch 70 went live on September 15, 2026 as "The Slasher" update (version 1.7.26.13). "Patch 70" is the count used by the community site Nuka Knights; Bethesda publishes version numbers but does not number its updates as patches. The biggest change is not a quest but a number: legendary items now return far more scrip and caps.
A 4-star item jumps from 6 to 30 scrip, and selling a 4-star weapon now pays 150 caps instead of 50. On top of that, several well-known unique weapons got reworked, and Season 26 "Beware the Blood Moon" started with the same update. This guide separates what is in the official update notes from what only came from the Public Test Server, where the update ran as "Psychophants of Appalachia".
๐ฐ The legendary economy gets rebuilt
This is the part of Fallout 76 Patch 70 that matters to anyone who farms. Bethesda raised both the scrip you get for scrapping legendaries and the caps vendors pay for them, and not by a token amount:
| Stars | Scrip before | Scrip now | Caps before | Caps now |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1โ | 1 | 3 | 5 | 15 |
| 2โ | 2 | 5 | 15 | 25 |
| 3โ | 4 | 10 | 40 | 50 |
| 4โ | 6 | 30 | 50 | 150 |
The new sell prices apply to weapons, armor and power armor alike. Before the update every type had its own prices: armor paid 3/9/24/30 caps, power armor 10/20/45/55.
So a 4-star weapon now returns five times the scrip and three times the caps. Hunting 4-star items is suddenly worth a lot more than it was. Our route for that is in the 4-star mods from Infestations guide.
More changes from the same block:
- Legendary modules weigh less in your stash: 0.05 instead of 0.15. If you stockpile modules, you get real space back.
- Purveyor prices unified: 25/35/60 across weapons, armor and power armor. No more math about which category is the better deal.
- Flat price for swapping mods: Changing a legendary mod now costs a fixed 50 scrip for 1 to 3 stars and 100 scrip for 4 stars, instead of getting more expensive with every swap. Unique items cost ten times as much. Details are in our guide to swapping mods on unique items.
๐ง What this means for hoarded legendaries
Until September 15, 2026, the live servers used the old table. If you sat on 4-star weapons until then, each one now gives 30 scrip instead of 6. Ten hoarded weapons make a 240 scrip difference. Waiting no longer gains you anything: the new values are live.
One limit still applies. According to fallout.wiki, a character can hold at most 11,000 scrip. Spend some before you scrap a big pile.
๐ฉธ New activities and enemies
Bethesda describes the update as a collection of short seasonal activities that start in stages. On the test server, that list was:
- Mask collection challenges
- A grave digging activity ("Grave Digging")
- A new faction for Daily Ops
- A new Infestations faction
- Spooky Scorched with tweaks, plus a new Head Hunt boss called "Uninvited Guest"
These points come from the test server announcement. The live update notes from September 15 do not list them as separate entries. What the notes do list: new rare Daily Ops rewards, including several unique weapons, a new map display for Infestations and lower health for Infestation bosses.
๐ซ Unique weapons: four concrete changes
- Daisy Cutter: now gains +20% damage per 1,000 radiation resistance. That makes it interesting for high rad resistance builds for the first time.
- The Cauterizer: switches from fire damage to energy damage.
- Minty Breather: heals teammates on hit.
- V63 Olga: projectiles get a 63% chance to ricochet to a nearby target.
The AP bonuses on light armor mods went up as well. Lighter Build now gives 5 AP instead of 2 on limbs and 10 instead of 2 on the torso. Ultra-Light Build gives 10 instead of 5 on limbs and 20 instead of 5 on the torso. To see whether this shifts your setup, check it against our weapon tier list and the best builds overview. All unique weapons and their effects are listed in the unique weapons list.
๐ Season 26 "Beware the Blood Moon"
Season 26 "Beware the Blood Moon" arrived with the September 15, 2026 update. It runs on a vampire and cultist theme. Before release, test server dataminers had already pulled outfits, C.A.M.P. items and Blood Moon paints from the files. That list was a datamine, not an official reward list, and the community's take at the time was that many items were recolors of existing ones. The actual rewards of the live season are in our Season 26 overview.
๐งฎ What changes on your farming route
Let's run the numbers on a realistic session after Fallout 76 Patch 70. Say you clear a round of Infestations and come out with ten legendary weapons: six 1-star, three 3-star and one 4-star.
| Loot | Scrip before | Scrip after Patch 70 |
|---|---|---|
| 6 ร 1โ | 6 | 18 |
| 3 ร 3โ | 12 | 30 |
| 1 ร 4โ | 6 | 30 |
| Total | 24 | 78 |
The same run pays roughly three times as much. The more interesting part is the shift inside the loot. A 4-star item used to be worth one and a half times a 3-star item when scrapped. Now it is worth three times as much. Activities with guaranteed 4-star drops gain a lot of ground compared to mass events that throw out piles of 1-star loot.
A second effect hits your stash. Legendary modules now weigh a third of what they did, so you can build bigger reserves instead of spending them right away. That eases exactly the bottleneck that used to force early scrapping.
๐น New factions in Daily Ops and Infestations
According to the test server announcement, Fallout 76 Patch 70 was supposed to add a new faction to both Daily Ops and Infestations. The live update notes do not list this as its own entry, so check the enemy types in game. In practice, new factions mostly mean new enemy types and therefore different resistances. If you have been getting by with a single damage type, carry a second weapon.
The reworked Spooky Scorched and the "Uninvited Guest" Head Hunt boss also come from the test server announcement. Spooky Scorched is on the event calendar from October 20 to November 3, 2026. Which 4-star mods from Infestations are worth chasing is covered in the 4-star mods guide.
๐ก Fallout 76 Patch 70 FAQ
When was Patch 70 released?
On September 15, 2026, as "The Slasher" update (version 1.7.26.13). Before that it ran on the Public Test Server starting in July 2026. Season 26 started with the same update.
Should I scrap my legendaries now?
Yes, the new values are live. A 4-star weapon gives 30 scrip instead of 6, and sells for 150 caps instead of 50. Just keep the 11,000 scrip cap per character in mind (per fallout.wiki).
Did anything change for legendary modules?
Yes. Their weight in your stash drops from 0.15 to 0.05.
What is Season 26 called?
"Beware the Blood Moon", with a vampire and cultist theme. It has been running since the September 15, 2026 update.
Are these values final?
The scrip, sell price, Purveyor price and module weight values are in the official update notes from September 15, 2026. Bethesda can still adjust them in later patches.
Checked against Fallout 76 as of October 2026. Scrip, caps, Purveyor prices, mod swapping, module weight, unique weapon changes and Lighter Build values come from Bethesda's official update notes for "The Slasher" (September 15, 2026, version 1.7.26.13). Activities, factions and Spooky Scorched come from Bethesda's "Inside the Vault" post about the Psychophants of Appalachia test server. The Season 26 datamine was a pre-release community source and is not official. "Patch 70" is Nuka Knights' count, not a Bethesda name.
