In Conan Exiles, Dragonpowder is the key to everything that explodes. Without this unstable powder there are no Explosive Jars to tear down enemy bases and no Explosive Arrows for combat. You need it outside of PvP too: for crafting the legendary Godbreaker armor and for higher sorcery. In short, if you want to play in the endgame, you can't avoid it.

Dragonpowder is crafted in the Firebowl Cauldron. You unlock the knowledge for it from level 15, and it requires the "Iron Tools" knowledge. Don't forget to put fuel (wood, branches or coal) into the cauldron, or nothing happens.

If you produce in bulk, switch to an upgraded Firebowl Cauldron later. The recipes are the same, but the better stations work faster and more efficiently.

🧮 What it really costs

The big item is the Steelfire. One Steelfire is made from 1× Tar + 1× Brimstone. So for a single batch of powder you need, counted back:

• 75× Tar (for 75 Steelfire)
• 85× Brimstone (75 for the Steelfire plus 10 directly in the recipe)
• 50× Crystal
• 2× Demon Blood

That shows right away: Brimstone is the real bottleneck alongside the Steelfire. If you build Explosive Jars regularly, set up a steady supply of Brimstone and Tar before you even think about the powder.

Steelfire and Tar

Brimstone

Crystal

You mine Crystal in large amounts in caves. Imp and spider caves with glowing crystal nodes are especially productive, and you'll find it on some rock formations too.

Demon Blood

Explosive Jar

The classic for raiding. An Explosive Jar is made from 1× Earthenware Jug + 5× Tar + 1× Dragonpowder. It's the standard tool for blowing up walls and doors of enemy bases.

Explosive Arrows

At the Carpenter's Bench, 1× Ironhead Arrow + 5× Tar + 1× Dragonpowder + 4× Feather give you 10× Explosive Arrow. Expensive, but with very high damage.

Legendary armor and sorcery

Crafting the legendary Godbreaker armor also needs the powder, together with Alchemical Base and Armor Scraps. In sorcery, it's used for the Tome of Kurak, among other things.

💡 Tip for mass production

Since Steelfire is the most expensive part, it pays to automate production: set up several Firebowl Cauldrons, keep Tar and Brimstone in stock and use the upgraded cauldron tiers. According to Funcom, crafting speed, material cost and fuel use have depended on the tier and type of the station since update 2.1 (October 2020), not on the thrall working at it.
