Conan Exiles Dragonhorn 2026: Where to Farm It, What Drops It and Recipes
Conan Exiles Dragonhorn only comes from dragons, and the best place to hunt them is the Unnamed City in the middle of the map. Hatchlings and adult dragons both drop 1 to 2 horns guaranteed, and you need them for every Dragonbone weapon and for upgrading the Tome of Kurak. This guide covers the spots, the drops and the full recipe math, checked against the Enhanced database.
Plenty of players avoid this material until they need their first Dragonbone sword. Then there's no way around it: you have to hunt dragons.
๐ What is Dragonhorn?
It's a high-value tier 3 material that comes exclusively from dragons. According to the lore, the Giant-Kings brought long-extinct dragons back from their bones, and their horns are tough enough to forge powerful weapons from. Unlike Brimstone or oil, you can't mine it from a node: you have to kill the creature and loot it.

๐บ๏ธ Where to farm Conan Exiles Dragonhorn
The dragon heartland of the Exiled Lands is the Unnamed City, the old Giant-King ruin in the middle of the map. Young dragons (hatchlings) and fully grown dragons both roam here. According to the Enhanced database conanexiles.gaming.tools, both drop 1 to 2 horns guaranteed. Adult dragons and white hatchlings also have a 10 percent chance at extra horns.
| Location | What | Note |
|---|---|---|
| The Spawning Pools (Unnamed City) | Dragon Hatchlings | Roam freely, a good place to start |
| City center and sand dunes (Unnamed City) | Red Dragon Hatchlings (1 skull) | Weaker versions of the boss dragons |
| Southern Unnamed City | 3 green Dragon Hatchlings | Around the Green Dragon world boss |
| Icespire Chasm, The High Way, Bin-Yakin's Seal | Dragon Hatchlings | Scattered between these points |
| Giant-King ruins / Unnamed City | Adult dragons | Slightly higher yield, but dangerous |
A White Dragon also guards the entrance to The High Way, a small cave that leads straight into the volcano. Take it down and you pick up a good number of horns along the way.
๐จ Which dragons drop it
In the Exiled Lands, dragons come in three color variants, each as young hatchlings and as fully grown boss dragons:
- Red Dragon Hatchlings: one-skull enemies in the sand dunes and the city center of the Unnamed City. The easiest way in.
- Green Dragon Hatchlings: in the south of the Unnamed City, three of them around the Green Dragon world boss. Handy if you're there for the boss anyway.
- White dragons: at the entrance to The High Way and beneath the forge in the Temple of Frost. White hatchlings are found around Icespire Chasm.
On the Isle of Siptah, the horns are much harder to come by than in the Exiled Lands. If you want to farm them on purpose, the original map is clearly the better choice.
๐ฉธ How to farm efficiently
The most important point first: according to the Enhanced database, hatchlings and adult dragons both drop 1 to 2 horns guaranteed, and adults only have a 10 percent chance at a bit more. The young dragons at the Spawning Pools are easier to kill and often stand alone, so they're usually the more efficient route.
- Bring range: dragons hit hard. A bow or an elevated position saves you a lot of damage, especially against adult dragons.
- Use a good harvesting tool: with a high-quality cleaver or skinning tool, you get more out of the corpse than with bare hands or a basic pickaxe.
- Use the roar window: dragons have an animation where they raise their head to the sky and roar. They're open to attacks during it, ideal for landing safe damage instead of running blindly into their bites.
- Take everything: besides the horns, the corpse also gives Dragonbone, Demon Blood, Brimstone and Exotic Flesh, exactly the materials you need for the same recipes anyway.
๐ฒ Dragonhorn, Dragonbone or Dragonpowder?
Three similar-sounding materials get mixed up all the time. Here's the quick breakdown:
- Dragonhorn: the binding item from this guide. Comes from dragons and goes into every Dragonbone weapon and the Tome of Kurak upgrade.
- Dragonbone: drops from the same dragons but is the bulk material. You need 5 to 10 per weapon on top of the horn.
- Dragonpowder: despite the name, it has nothing to do with dragons. It's a crafted explosive for bombs and siege weapons. The full path is in our Dragonpowder guide.
โ๏ธ What do you need it for?
The horn is almost never an end in itself. It's the binding item for the whole Dragonbone weapon set. Important: every one of these weapons also needs Dragonbone, which drops from the same dragons. So plan your farming run for both materials at once.
| Weapon (station) | Dragonhorn | Dragonbone | Also needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragonbone Daggers (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 5 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone Maul (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone Spear (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone Sword (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone Two-Handed Sword (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone War Axe (Blacksmith's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Weapon Handle |
| Dragonbone Bow (Carpenter's Bench) | 1 | 10 | 1 Sturdy String |
The effort pays off because Dragonbone weapons are among the harder-hitting options in the game. They're a clear upgrade over iron and steel weapons and, for many players, the step before they take on Star Metal. If you're in the Unnamed City anyway, plan the detour to the dragons.
๐งช Two uses people often miss
- Upgrading the Tome of Kurak: at the Thaumaturgy Bench, the recipe 1 Tome of Kurak + 1 Sorcerous Spell Page + 30 Demon Blood + 5 Dragonhorn improves your grimoire. The tome itself isn't used up. If you're getting serious about sorcery, there's no way around the horns.
- Ghoulish Humors: according to the community wiki (not listed in the Enhanced database), the Fluid Press can break horns down into Ghoulish Humors, an alchemy ingredient for potions and further recipes.
๐ก The honest farming math
Do the rough math before you head out. A complete melee set (Daggers, Maul, Spear, Sword, Two-Handed Sword and War Axe) costs you 6 horns and 55 Dragonbone. The bow adds another horn and 10 Dragonbone. That's about 7 horns for the full arsenal, plus 5 for every Tome of Kurak upgrade with this recipe.
Since each dragon only drops 1 to 2 horns guaranteed, that's several dragon kills. The upside: you collect the Dragonbone, Demon Blood and Brimstone for the same recipes in the same run.
