Overpressured Rounds and Prototype Shock Coils: Are the Nightwave Mods Worth It in 2026?

Overpressured Rounds and Prototype Shock Coils: Are the Nightwave Mods Worth It in 2026?

Both new mods from the Amir's Shockwave Nightwave are free: Prototype Shock Coils sits at rank 10, Overpressured Rounds at rank 25. The mod isn't the expensive part. The weapon underneath it is.

The EFV-8 Mars and EFV-5 Jupiter cost 30,000 Standing each with The Hex, require Mastery Rank 14 and are only sold from Hex rank 5 “Pizza Party.” Getting there costs you another 240,000 Standing and 385,000 Höllars.

Short version: Prototype Shock Coils is an unconditional damage and status mod you'll almost always want, while Overpressured Rounds is only worth it if you actually play the Jupiter.

📊 The two mods side by side

The values come from the official Update 43.5 patch notes and the in-game mod descriptions. Both mods are Nightwave season rank rewards.

ModWeaponNightwave rankEffect
Prototype Shock CoilsEFV-8 Mars (secondary)10+90% Electricity damage; 20% base chance to add extra Electricity damage, regardless of your equipped damage type
Overpressured RoundsEFV-5 Jupiter (primary)25Rifle kills add +120% Falloff Distance and less spread to the next Buckshot; Buckshot kills restore 50% of the current magazine

Rank 10 means 100,000 Nightwave Standing, rank 25 is 250,000. Every rank costs a flat 10,000 Standing, so you'll have Prototype Shock Coils in hand well before Overpressured Rounds. How the ranks realistically play out is in our Amir's Shockwave overview.

⚡ Prototype Shock Coils: who it's for

The EFV-8 Mars is a Scaldra secondary with a semi-auto primary fire and a corrosive grenade as its alternate fire. Base stats per the community-run wiki at wiki.warframe.com:

  • Primary fire 75 total damage (20 Impact, 55 Puncture), no element by default
  • 27% Critical Chance, 2.10x Critical Multiplier, 17% Status Chance
  • 6.50 fire rate, magazine size 15
  • Alternate fire: corrosive grenade, 313 area damage, 33% Status Chance, 3 m radius

That's exactly why the mod works so cleanly: the Mars only brings physical damage types in its primary fire. The +90% Electricity isn't a percentage on top of something it already has. It's extra elemental damage on a weapon that had none. No kill condition, no stacking, no warm-up. The mod works from the first shot.

The second part is the more interesting one. The mod description explicitly says the extra Electricity damage is added regardless of your equipped damage type. So it comes on top, whatever element combination you've modded. With a 17% base Status Chance, a flat 20% chance at extra Electricity damage is worth more than the number suggests at first glance. Electricity fits the status builds common in the endgame very well.

Yes, if: you own the Mars or want it anyway, like status builds or want a secondary for group play. It's one of the most unconditional mods in a while.

No, if: you don't own the Mars and would have to invest 30,000 Hex Standing plus rank 5 just for this mod. In that case, your mod slot is better spent on a Galvanized mod on a weapon you already play.

🎯 Overpressured Rounds: is it worth it for the EFV-5 Jupiter?

The EFV-5 Jupiter is a Scaldra assault rifle with an underbarrel shotgun. Both fire modes draw from the same magazine, and that's exactly the problem the mod addresses. The base stats:

StatRifle modeBuckshot (alternate fire)
Total damage61 (31 Puncture, 23 Slash, 7 Corrosive)1,397
Critical Chance / Multiplier21.00% / 2.30x21.00% / 2.10x
Status Chance25.00%5.73%, plus a guaranteed Corrosive proc
Fire rate / charge time7.831.00 s charge time, 11 pellets
Ammomagazine 65, 2.50 s reload15 ammo per shot
Damage falloffnonelinear between 5.0 m and 10.0 m

The Buckshot is the real damage dealer, but it starts losing damage at 5 meters and is practically useless past 10. It also eats 15 of the 65 magazine points, so you get four shots per magazine before a 2.5-second reload.

What Overpressured Rounds changes: +120% Falloff Distance moves the window from 5 to 10 meters to 11 to 22 meters. That's the difference between a weapon that only works up close and one that hits at normal combat range. The reduced spread comes on top. And a Buckshot kill gives magazine back. With a 65-round magazine, that's enough for two more Buckshots.

Two limits you should know. First: the buff only lasts for the next Buckshot. You need a rifle kill before every shotgun blast. Trivial in normal missions, much less reliable against tanky targets on the Steel Path, because that's exactly where you're missing easy kills when you need them.

Second: the English patch note literally says “restore 50% of the current Magazine.” Whether that means half the magazine size (about 32 rounds) or half of what's currently loaded, Digital Extremes doesn't say. Test it in the Simulacrum before you build around it.

Yes, if: the Jupiter is your main weapon. The mod fixes exactly the weapon's two weaknesses. Pair it with the Primary Arcane Adapter, which the same season already hands out at rank 8.

No, if: you won't reach rank 25 or only use the Jupiter for leveling. Rank 25 is 250,000 Standing, and for many players the season is over before then.

💰 What the weapons really cost

Almost nobody adds this up: the mods are free, the weapons aren't. Minerva of The Hex sells both blueprints, and both require Mastery Rank 14 and Hex rank 5 “Pizza Party.”

ItemStanding
Main blueprint15,000
3 component blueprints at 5,000 each15,000
Total per weapon30,000
Both weapons (Jupiter + Mars)60,000

60,000 Standing sounds doable, but the real effort is the rank. To reach rank 5 you have to work through all five tiers, and each one costs Standing plus Höllars:

Hex rankStandingHöllars
1: Leftovers5,00010,000
2: Fresh Slice22,00025,000
3: 2-For-144,00050,000
4: Hot & Fresh70,000100,000
5: Pizza Party99,000200,000
Total240,000385,000

From zero to both weapons, that's 300,000 Hex Standing and 385,000 Höllars. For scale: completing all three Temporal Archimedea missions gives 15,000 Standing at once, a Big Bytes Pizza from the Hex Treasures 2,500, and smaller finds like the 35mm Film or the On-lyne CD 750 each. If you take the weekly Archimedea every time and run bounties on the side, you're realistically looking at several weeks. Not several months, but not one weekend either.

A note on the daily cap: the community-run wiki gives a general Syndicate daily cap of 16,000 plus 500 per Mastery Rank. The wiki's Hex page doesn't list a separate number for The Hex, so we don't calculate with a fixed daily value here.

💡 Quick recommendation

  • You already own both weapons: Take both mods. Prototype Shock Coils at rank 10 is on your way anyway.
  • You own neither weapon and you're below MR 14: The mods still land in your inventory. Don't chase 300,000 Standing for them. That's not a good trade for two mods.
  • You want exactly one weapon: Take the Jupiter. Overpressured Rounds noticeably changes how the weapon plays, while Prototype Shock Coils is “only” a strong numbers boost.
  • Your time is limited: Rank 10 comes within a few weeks, rank 25 doesn't. Plan your Acts accordingly. More in our Warframe tips and tricks.

❓ FAQ about Overpressured Rounds and Prototype Shock Coils

Can I get the mods without the matching weapon?

Yes. The mods are plain Nightwave rank rewards and land in your inventory whether or not you own the EFV-5 Jupiter or EFV-8 Mars.

What Mastery Rank do I need for the EFV-5 Jupiter and EFV-8 Mars?

Both weapons are Mastery Rank 14, per the community wiki.

Where do I buy the blueprints?

From Minerva in the Höllvania Central Mall, from Hex rank 5 “Pizza Party.” Main blueprint 15,000 Standing, three components at 5,000 Standing each.

Does the Electricity from Prototype Shock Coils combine with my modded elements?

The mod description only explicitly says the extra Electricity damage is added regardless of your equipped damage type. There's no official word on how the +90% Electricity itself behaves. Test it in the Simulacrum.

Is Overpressured Rounds worth it on the Steel Path?

With limits. The buff needs a rifle kill before every Buckshot, and those are harder to come by against armored Steel Path enemies. On normal star chart missions, the loop runs practically on its own.

Can I still get the mods later?

Only while the season runs. Digital Extremes hasn't given an end date for Amir's Shockwave yet.

Checked as of October 2026. Mod effects and ranks from the official Update 43.5 patch notes on warframe.com; weapon stats, blueprints, Hex ranks and Standing amounts from the community-run wiki at wiki.warframe.com (EFV-5 Jupiter, EFV-8 Mars and The Hex pages). Per the wiki, both weapons are also sold in the Scaldra Dominance Pack for 655 platinum.
