StarRupture Base Building 2026: Location, High Ground and Defense

StarRupture base building doesn't start with your first structure. It starts with picking the spot. On Arcadia-7, Fire Waves sweep across the map on a regular schedule, and every new piece of factory makes the Vermin attacks harder.

Put your first Base Core in the wrong place and you'll spend hours moving machines later. This guide covers what matters for StarRupture base building as a beginner: high ground, protection and a layout that can grow.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Choosing a spot: what a good location needs

The Base Core is the heart of your colony. According to the game database starrupture.th.gl, it lets you build other structures in the first place and protects your base from the Fire Wave. Its capacity is limited. Exceed it and the Fire Wave protection drops, leaving your base out of action for longer. So the location has to do more than look nice:

  • Resources in reach: extractors have to sit right on the deposits. A good starting spot has water (Hydrobulbs), food plants and early ores like Titanium Ore and Wolfram Ore within a short walk.
  • Few Vermin nests: areas with lots of nests cost you ammo and patience for as long as you stay. Quieter zones are the better choice for your first base.
  • Natural cover: cliffs, hollows and high ground save you expensive walls.
  • Room to grow: expect to need a lot more production space than you think at the start.

For the very first base, many players simply recommend the area right next to the starting ship. You get short trips to Hydrobulbs, food, Titanium and Wolfram, plus an abandoned base nearby with loot and blueprints. If you want the basics first, our StarRupture beginner guide has the overview.

โ›ฐ๏ธ High ground: why height matters in a fight

Elevated positions aren't decoration in StarRupture. They're a tactical advantage. On a raised platform you can shoot down at the Vermin during an attack while your factory sits below. Turrets benefit too. Placed on high ground, they get a better field of view and wider coverage.

A spot the community often names is a hill base by a lake. It sits high, has water next to it, Calcium, helium, Titanium and Sulphur deposits nearby, and relatively few Vermin nests. For defensive players, a trench base is an alternative: it sits in a natural hollow between rock walls. The terrain funnels attackers on its own, which suits turret defense.

โ˜ข๏ธ Protection from Fire Waves and Vermin

Two threats shape StarRupture base building: the Fire Waves of the Ruptures and the Vermin. Plan for both from day one.

Fire Waves

The Base Core protects you from the Fire Wave as long as you stay within its capacity. Keep an eye on that before you add the next production line. You enter your Habitat through an Airlock, which the database says has to be built on a Habitat wall. Place the Habitat centrally where you can reach it quickly, not on the far edge behind half your factory.

After a Fire Wave you can collect Ignitium. The database describes it as a raw material of limited availability that comes from the remains of the Fire Wave.

Vermin attacks

Vermin aggression grows with your base. More buildings and more production mean more frequent, heavier waves. It gets especially dangerous when Vermin break through to the Base Core. Then they infect it, the zone turns blue, and you can't use the structures in its area until you clear the infection. That's why defense comes first and expansion second.

MeasureBenefit
Turrets on high groundBetter coverage, fire from above
Chokepoints and kill zonesBunch up attackers, overlapping fields of fire
Central Habitat with AirlockShort way into the Habitat
Natural hollows and cliffsSave walls, steer enemies

Turrets need supplies: according to starrupture.th.gl, the Defense Turret costs 200 Basic Building Material and 15 stability. It aims on its own but needs Standard Ammo that you have to load by hand. It unlocks at Griffith Blue Corporation level 6, the stronger Defense Tower at level 9. Plan ammo production and the walk to your turrets from the start.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ A layout built for expansion

A clean layout saves you a full rebuild later. These principles have proven themselves:

  1. Extraction at the source: put mining buildings right on the deposits and connect them to central processing hubs with Drone Rails.
  2. Group your processing: keep production buildings together instead of spreading them over the map. That keeps logistics manageable.
  3. Leave room to grow: keep space free on purpose. You almost always need more production capacity than planned.
  4. Satellite outposts: tap distant resources with long rail lines instead of cramming everything into one spot.

Set up extra bases as you explore the map. The database lists one Meteor Heart as the build cost of a Base Core. Take Meteor Hearts, building material, ammo and food with you on trips. Which resources to prioritize is covered in our StarRupture resources guide. For targeted ore farming, see the Goethite guide, and for rail crossings and slopes, the Drone Rails guide.

๐Ÿ’ก Base Core capacity and upgrades

Base Core capacity limits how much you can run in its area. You raise it with direct Base Core upgrades or a Base Core Amplifier. According to the database, an Amplifier works for every Base Core whose range it sits in.

BuildingCapacityBuild costUnlock
Base Core Amplifier v.1+50350 Intermediate Building Material, 80 stabilityno level listed in the database
Base Core Amplifier v.2+20100 Intermediate Building Material, 60 stabilityMoon Energy Corporation, level 7

Note that v.2 adds less capacity than v.1 according to the database, but it's much cheaper. The database doesn't list material costs for direct core upgrades, so plan with a buffer, not fixed numbers.

๐Ÿ”— FAQ

Where should I build my first base in StarRupture?

The area right next to the starting ship is a good start: short trips to water, food, Titanium and Wolfram, plus an abandoned base nearby with blueprints. Hill or trench spots with few Vermin nests are ideal once you feel more confident.

Is building on high ground worth it?

Yes. Raised platforms let you shoot down at the Vermin and give turrets more coverage, while the factory sits below.

How do I protect my base from Fire Waves?

The Base Core protects your base from the Fire Wave as long as its capacity isn't exceeded. Raise the capacity in time with core upgrades or a Base Core Amplifier.

Where do I unlock the Base Core Amplifier?

According to starrupture.th.gl, the Base Core Amplifier v.2 unlocks at Moon Energy Corporation level 7. The database lists no unlock level for v.1.

Why do Vermin attacks keep getting stronger?

Aggression grows with your base. More buildings and production mean more frequent, heavier waves, so defense and ammo supply should always grow with your StarRupture base building.

โœจ Bottom line

Good StarRupture base building is mostly location and planning. Look for a spot near resources with few Vermin nests, high ground or a hollow for natural cover, a Base Core with enough capacity for the Fire Waves and a layout with extraction at the source plus free space to grow. If you scale turrets and ammo together, attack waves get a lot less stressful.
