SpaceCraft Calcified Invariant: Where to Find It and What It's For

SpaceCraft Calcified Invariant: Where to Find It and What It's For

The SpaceCraft Calcified Invariant only drops as a side yield from certain shells. You need it for the lab study that unlocks the Quantum Beacon and for the Gravitron.

Many wikis only list the ore as an entry. This guide sums up what can be backed by spacecraft.tools and our SpaceCraft database: what the Invariant is, where it comes from and what you need it for.

๐Ÿ’  What is the Calcified Invariant?

The Calcified Invariant is an ore. Its item description says that stones created by the energies of the Big Bang often carry an energy signature that makes them uniquely identifiable.

PropertyValue
CategoryOre
Base value100 credits
Storage2 SU per unit
Tier5 per spacecraft.tools, loot level 7 per our database
Craftableno, mining only
Values per spacecraft.tools (v0.5.25674) and our SpaceCraft database.

At 2 SU per unit it's fairly bulky for an ore. If you collect it on purpose, leave some room in your cargo hold.

๐Ÿช Sources: a side drop from shells

The Invariant has no source of its own. It drops when you break certain shells. According to spacecraft.tools, there are three:

NodeChance
Chalcedony Shell16.1 %
Basalt Shell14.6 %
Iron Spherule10.5 %
Drop chances per spacecraft.tools. You'll find the Iron Spherule in asteroid fields.

In the Steam forum, players also mention Clay Shells as a source. The database doesn't list that shell as a source, though. So search for Chalcedony and Basalt Shells on purpose. How to track down nodes with the detector and Scanalyzer is explained in the guide to finding resources.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you need the SpaceCraft Calcified Invariant for

The Invariant goes into one lab study and two Workshop recipes:

UseAmountOther ingredientsStation
Lab study Calcified Invariant I3ร—noneLaboratory
Quantum Beacon1ร—2ร— Magnetic CoilWorkshop
Gravitron2ร—1ร— Simple Resource Detector, 1ร— Diamond, 3ร— Diffraction GratingWorkshop
Recipes per our SpaceCraft database and spacecraft.tools.

Lab study and Quantum Beacon

According to spacecraft.tools, the lab study Calcified Invariant I takes 2 minutes 30 seconds, uses 3 Invariants and gives 40 Science experience. After that, the Quantum Beacon is available in the Workshop. Players in the official Steam forum give the same answer to the common question "Where quantum beacon?".

According to its item text, the Quantum Beacon is an experimental method of high-speed communication that can instantly report its position to a quantum signature. It goes into five more recipes: Pathway Stand, Shuttle Landing Pad, Pathway Kernel, "Wanderback" Cockpit and FTL Patch: Charted Skies II. More in the Quantum Beacon guide.

Gravitron

The Gravitron is a special detector in the radar category with a base value of 790 credits. According to its item text, it precisely locates a rare rock type that other detectors can't find. You get the recipe from the blueprint "Blueprint: Gravitron", which spacecraft.tools lists at loot level 8. The Simple Resource Detector that goes into the recipe unlocks early with the Electromagnetism permit (100 credits). Diamond and Diffraction Grating are later ingredients you should plan for.

๐Ÿงญ How to collect it on purpose

According to our database, the Chalcedony Shell is a tier 1 node. You don't need an advanced mining laser to break it. The only bottleneck is luck with the side drop.

  • Scan first: locate shells with the Resource Detector and identify them with the Scanalyzer. The laser can't work unknown nodes.
  • Be patient: at 10 to 16 % the Invariant only drops now and then. Expect to need well over a handful of shells for five.
  • Grab them in passing: break Chalcedony and Basalt Shells whenever they're on your way instead of planning dedicated trips.
  • Store them at your base: at 2 SU each, it's worth dropping Invariants in base storage when you need the hold for trade.

๐Ÿ’ก Sell or keep?

The base value of 100 credits sounds tempting. More important, though, is its role as a blocker: without three Invariants for the lab study, the Quantum Beacon stays locked, and that feeds many later recipes.

So keep at least five: three for the study, one for your first Quantum Beacon and one spare. If you're planning a Gravitron, add two more. Only sell what drops beyond that. Whether refining or keeping pays off in general is shown in the crafting chains guide.

โ“ FAQ: SpaceCraft Calcified Invariant

Where do I find the Calcified Invariant?
As a side drop from Chalcedony Shells (16.1 %), Basalt Shells (14.6 %) and Iron Spherules (10.5 %). It can't be crafted.

How many do I need for the Quantum Beacon?
Three for the lab study Calcified Invariant I and one per Quantum Beacon you build.

What does the Gravitron do?
It's a special detector for a rock type other detectors can't find. One Gravitron takes two Invariants.

Do I need a special mining laser?
No. According to our database, the Chalcedony Shell is a tier 1 node, so the Simple Mining Laser is enough. What matters is that you've identified the shell with the Scanalyzer first.

Should I sell it right away?
No. Put three aside for the lab study first, or you lock yourself out of the Quantum Beacon.

๐Ÿ”— Further guides

Rarer ores like Quartz, Titanium or Tungsten are covered in the rare resources guide.

As of October 2026, SpaceCraft Early Access v0.5.25674. Checked against spacecraft.tools (drop chances, study, tiers), our SpaceCraft database (recipes, item texts) and a discussion in the official Steam forum. The patch notes up to Major Update #1 don't change the Invariant. Drop chances and recipes can change with patches.
