- ๐ก Frequently Asked Questions about the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon
The SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon marks a resource spot on your map for good. You unlock it with the laboratory study "Calcified Invariant I" and craft it in the Workshop from 2 Magnetic Coil and 1 Calcified Invariant.
That's the short version. The more interesting part: the same item goes into five other recipes, from the Shuttle Landing Pad to one of the most expensive cockpits in the game. Once you know that, you stop building one beacon and start keeping a stock.
๐ฐ๏ธ What the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon Actually Is
The item text reads: "An experimental method of high-speed communication. This beacon can instantly reveal its position to a quantum signature across the galaxy, no matter where it is." So the device is a position marker, not a building that moves goods or power.
Its counterpart is the Quantum Signature, which picks up the position of the paired beacon. You can't craft it, and there is no permit for it.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Category | Player Consumable, not a base building |
| Storage | 1 su |
| Base value | 128 credits |
| Range (database) | 300 m |
| Power needed | none, it isn't hooked to any grid |
| Unlock | laboratory study "Calcified Invariant I" |
Worth knowing when you plan: the databases do not list the Quantum Beacon under base buildings. It needs no cable, no generator and no footprint. You drop it from your inventory out in the field.
๐ Unlocking the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon
No research, no recipe. The study is called "Calcified Invariant I", runs in the Laboratory for 2 minutes 30 seconds, uses up 3 Calcified Invariant and grants 40 Science XP. After that, the recipe shows up in the Workshop. Players in the official Steam forum give the same answer to the evergreen question "Where quantum beacon?".
Calcified Invariant isn't a deposit of its own. It's a side drop when you mine certain shell-shaped rocks; spacecraft.tools lists Chalcedony Shell (16.1%), Basalt Shell (14.6%) and Iron Spherule (10.5%) as sources. How to track down nodes like these is covered in our guide to finding resources in SpaceCraft.
The SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon needs no permit of its own, since the unlock runs through the Laboratory, not the permit tree. Only the Magnetic Coil ingredient may need one, depending on which recipe you use.
โ๏ธ SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon Recipe and Real Cost
You build it in the Workshop.
| Station | Ingredients | Result | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workshop | 2 Magnetic Coil, 1 Calcified Invariant | 1 Quantum Beacon | 7.5 s / 1 min 15 s |
Magnetic Coil has two recipes, both in the Workshop and both giving 2 coils: from 5 Semiconductor Substrate (blueprint, loot level 5), or from 5 Wire, 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Nut and Bolt through the Electromagnetism permit for 100 credits. So one beacon costs you exactly one coil run. Our own back-calculation from August 2026 base values comes to roughly 2.5 copper ore, 2.25 iron ore and 1 Calcified Invariant, about 112 credits in materials.
A second recipe, 5 Quantum Signature with no workstation, is marked as unavailable in the database, and the numbers show why: 5 ร 25.6 credits is exactly the 128 credit base value. It's a value conversion, not a way to build one.
๐ The Math: Craft or Buy?
This is where most players get it wrong. The beacon has a base value of 128 credits, but the player market looks very different. A check of the public SpaceCraft market data on August 24, 2026 showed 42 units in 4 listings between 499 and 13,999 credits, averaging about 2,726 credits. That's a community snapshot, not an official value, but the order of magnitude is clear.
| Route | Cost per beacon | Ratio to material value |
|---|---|---|
| Craft it yourself | about 112 credits in materials | 1ร |
| Cheapest listing | 499 credits | about 4.5ร |
| Market average | about 2,726 credits | about 24ร |
Then there's the one-time research. Three Calcified Invariant normally cost you only mining time. If you had to buy them at the logged market average of about 585 credits, you'd pay roughly 1,755 credits, still less than one SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon at the average price. The unlock pays for itself before you hold your first beacon. The advice in a German-language Steam guide not to buy beacons at the Mining Bureau matches that exactly.
๐บ๏ธ Using the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon to Mark Spots
The practical use is quick to explain. You find a good node while exploring, but you don't have the time or cargo space to mine it now. You drop a beacon on it, and the spot stays on your map, visible from anywhere. That's how a player in the official Steam forum describes it, and that's how the community uses it: as a bookmark for veins you'll come back to with the right gear. SpaceCraft has no automatic list of everything you pass.
The second use is the Mining Bureau quest chain. In "MB#04: Deposit Location" you craft a beacon, deploy it and equip it. A German-speaking player in the Steam forum describes the flow like this: place the beacon, fly to the Mining Bureau, finish the task, and the beacon disappears on its own. That's a player report, not an official description, but it explains why so many build their first one.
๐ The Connection Most Guides Miss
Here's the part hardly any guide puts together. The SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon isn't just a map marker; it's the game's universal position memory. Every recipe that uses it belongs to a device that has to remember a fixed spot or travel to it. There are exactly five:
| Recipe | Amount | What the device does with the location |
|---|---|---|
| Shuttle Landing Pad | 1ร | destination your shuttles fly to |
| FTL Patch: Charted Skies II | 1ร | route data for FTL jumps |
| Pathway Stand | 1ร | end point of a spacetime tunnel |
| Pathway Kernel | 1ร | ammunition that bores the pathway there |
| "Wanderback" Cockpit | 1ร | saves a location to jump back to |
The "Wanderback" Cockpit shows it best: according to its description it saves a precise location and can jump back there at any time, without using Mag-Plasma and without any risk of damage. The part that holds that location is the Quantum Beacon. According to spacecraft.tools, the cockpit isn't unlocked by a permit but through Exploration progression: Refined Superluminal Travel at Exploration level 4.
In practice: build more beacons than you need for marking. If you only notice a missing beacon at the Shuttle Landing Pad, you'll be hunting Calcified Invariant in the middle of expanding your base. For the patch side, see our SpaceCraft patches guide.
โ ๏ธ Don't Mix It Up: Quantum Beacon vs. Power Transmitter
Both names sound like "sends something somewhere", but they have nothing to do with each other.
| Criterion | Quantum Beacon | Power Transmitter |
|---|---|---|
| Type | player item from your inventory | base building |
| Transmits | a position | electricity |
| Power needed | none | part of the power grid |
| Unlock | lab study "Calcified Invariant I" | Technology XP unlock "Power Transfer" (level 5) |
If you want to send power from base to base, you need the Power Transmitter, not the beacon, and it only works between bases in the same star system.
๐ฉธ Common Problems and What's Behind Them
- The recipe doesn't show up. You're missing the lab study "Calcified Invariant I". Collect three Calcified Invariant, research, and the recipe appears in the Workshop.
- The beacon won't come back down. A German player complains about exactly this in the Steam forum: once placed, it never goes away. The answer in the thread: Construction Tool 2.0 and 3.0 can remove anything, the basic Construction Tool can't. Or finish the matching Mining Bureau task and the beacon dissolves on its own. Both are community reports.
- "Surely it needs power?" No. It isn't a base building and isn't on any building list. If nothing happens, power isn't the reason.
- Buying looks tempting. At the market average you pay about 24 times the material value. That's never worth it as long as you can get Calcified Invariant.
- The range is unclear. The database says 300 m. What that radius covers isn't officially documented, so place the beacon right on the node.
๐ก Frequently Asked Questions about the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon
How do I unlock the SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon?
Through the lab study "Calcified Invariant I". It uses up 3 Calcified Invariant and unlocks the recipe. No permit is needed.
What does a Quantum Beacon cost?
To craft, 2 Magnetic Coil and 1 Calcified Invariant, about 112 credits in materials against a 128 credit base value. On the player market, listings on August 24, 2026 ranged from 499 to 13,999 credits, so crafting is far cheaper.
Does the Quantum Beacon need power or base space?
No. It's an inventory item, not a base building. It needs neither a power grid nor footprint; you drop it right in the field.
What else do I need the Quantum Beacon for?
It's an ingredient in five recipes: Shuttle Landing Pad, FTL Patch: Charted Skies II, Pathway Stand, Pathway Kernel and the "Wanderback" Cockpit. All five are devices that remember or reach a location.
Can I pick up a placed SpaceCraft Quantum Beacon again?
According to players, yes, but only with Construction Tool 2.0 or 3.0, not the basic Construction Tool. If the beacon is used for a Mining Bureau task, it disappears once the task is done.

Checked against the spacecraft.tools game database (v0.5.25674: recipe, unlock, item texts, sources and recipes that use the beacon) as of October 2026. The patch notes up to Major Update #1 and v0.5.25674 don't mention the beacon. Market prices and the material calculation are from August 24, 2026. Community reports without official confirmation: the Mining Bureau task flow, removal with Construction Tool 2.0 and 3.0 and the market prices. SpaceCraft is in Early Access, so values can change with any patch.
