- โ FAQ: SpaceCraft best ship
There is no ready-made SpaceCraft best ship to buy: you assemble every ship yourself in the ship editor from hull parts, a cockpit, thrusters and modules. Which ship is best depends on the job it has to do. This guide shows which stats really matter, which hulls and thrusters exist and in which order upgrading pays off.
All part values come from the game data on spacecraft.tools (version v0.5.25674 from October 13, 2026), the mechanics from Shiro Games' official patch notes and dev blogs. The basics of weight and thrust are covered in our SpaceCraft ship building guide.
โ๏ธ The three numbers every ship depends on
Before you think about the best ship, keep three numbers in view in the editor. They decide whether your design flies or just looks good.
- System Support vs. System Requirement: hull parts and the cockpit provide System Support (SP), every module uses some. Shiro Games explained it in the dev blog "First Steps 4": as long as the requirement stays below the support, all modules run at full efficiency. Go above it and they work less effectively.
- Force vs. weight: every thruster has a force value in tonnes. If the total is lower than your ship's weight, the ship planner on spacecraft.tools flags the design as underpowered.
- Power: thrusters, lasers and many modules draw power (MA). Generation from solar panels and generators has to cover consumption, the battery buffers peaks.
Since patch v0.3.22866 from July 21, 2026, the ship editor itself warns you about badly designed ships and shows maximum speed and acceleration time. Use those readouts before you spend materials.
๐ What Major Update #1 changed about flying
Major Update #1 from October 8, 2026 reworked the speed calculation. According to the patch notes, ships with more thrusters now reach higher top speeds, but are less maneuverable and take longer to accelerate and decelerate. Boost was enhanced.
Patch v0.5.25674 from October 13, 2026 followed up: ship speed in orbit was moderately reduced to improve maneuverability, while boost speed stayed the same. For your best ship that means more thrusters buy you speed on long trips, but they don't automatically help while mining on a planet.
๐งฑ Hulls: Steel, Titanium, Levinium and Solid Frame
Hull parts come in fixed sizes. The small parts run from 4x3x1 to 8x3x2, the large ones from 8x6x2 to 16x6x2. According to the game data, the large formats exist for Titanium, Thermal Titanium and Solid Frame. For comparison, one small part per material:
| Hull part | System Support | Weight | Hull | Frame | Permit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steel 4x3x2 | 240 SP | 30 t | 15 | 36 | Ship of Steel (3,000 credits) |
| Titanium 4x3x2 | 360 SP | 24 t | 16 | 36 | Better Titanium (7,000 credits) |
| Levinium 4x3x2 | 240 SP | 12 t | 3 | 2 | Very Light Alloys (30,000 credits) |
| Solid Frame 4x3x1 | none | 20 t | 20 | 160 | Advanced Frames (30,000 credits) |
That makes Titanium the all-rounder: more System Support than Steel at lower weight. Levinium weighs half as much but barely holds up. Solid Frame gives no System Support, but by far the highest Frame value. The thermal variants (Thermal Steel, Thermal Titanium) are made from the regular part plus six Thermal Sheets.
A note on timing: Major Update #1 upgraded the Titanium hull parts of size 3x1 and 3x2, and hotfix v0.5.25570 then fixed Titanium hull integrity. The table shows the values after both changes.
๐ฅ Thrusters compared
With thrusters you trade between force, speed and handling. The values from the game data:
| Thruster | Force | Thrust | Steering | Power | Sys. req. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| "Cart Pusher" | 300 t | 50 | 8 | 35 MA | 300 SP |
| "Grasshopper" | 600 t | 80 | 15 | 80 MA | 600 SP |
| "Voidseeker" | 600 t | 90 | 20 | 70 MA | 450 SP |
| "Quiet Breeze" | 700 t | 100 | 15 | 15 MA | 1,000 SP |
| "Silent" Thruster | 1,250 t | 120 | 40 | 50 MA | 1,100 SP |
| "Long Haul" Thruster | 1,400 t | 150 | 5 | 60 MA | 1,200 SP |
The "Cart Pusher" unlocks with the Modular Structures permit (300 credits). The "Grasshopper" comes with Technology level 3. The Silent and Long Haul thrusters are part of the level 6 content from Major Update #1. According to the patch notes, the Silent Thruster balances speed and handling, while the Long Haul is the fastest thruster yet at the cost of maneuverability. Its steering value of 5 shows how sluggish it is.
โก Power: solar, generators, batteries
Without enough power, the strongest thruster does nothing for you. The key power modules according to the game data:
- Solar panels: Small Solar Panel 40 MA, Medium Solar Panel 150 MA (both from the Solar Panel permit, 300 credits), Large Solar Panel 1,000 MA (blueprint).
- Fuel generators: Small Fuel Generator 180 MA (Technology level 3), Medium Fuel Generator 675 MA (Technology level 6). Both produce noticeable heat.
- Isotopic Generator: only 15 MA, but it needs neither light nor fuel. Since v0.5.25674 it can be crafted in the Workshop.
- Batteries: Flywheel Battery 500 MAs, Battery Module 5,000 MAs (Chemical Battery permit, 3,000 credits). The Paradoxical Battery stores 20,000 MAs but only recharges during FTL jumps.
For mining on the dark side of a planet or in deep space, a big battery or a generator is a must, because solar panels don't charge there.
๐ฆ Cargo and cockpit
Your cargo hold decides how long you can stay out. The Small Cargo Hold holds 100 SU (Cargo Accommodation permit, 100 credits), the Cargo Hold 500 SU (Modular Systems 2, 2,000 credits) and the Large Cargo Hold 5,000 SU (Modular Systems 3, 18,000 credits). The large one needs 3,000 SP of System Support, though, and is built in the Factory.
The "Brick" Cockpit (200 SP, 40 t) is the Company's entry-level cockpit according to its in-game description. The "Beaver" has 300 SU of its own storage, the "Pathfinder" a built-in battery with 1,000 MAs. The "Wanderback" and "Anvil" offer 400 SP but weigh 128 t.
๐ฏ Miner, freighter or explorer
Since there are no fixed classes, the build follows the job. Three examples that follow directly from the patch notes and game data:
- Miner: the laser is the heart of it. After the Hi-Pi Laser and the Cooling Laser, the Heavy Beam permit (60,000 credits) unlocks the Giant Laser and its overclocked version. According to Major Update #1, only these lasers can take the new Increased Output IV patches.
- Freighter: large cargo holds plus enough force and System Support. This is where Titanium hulls in the large formats shine.
- Explorer: range matters more than storage. Major Update #1 added the Big Mag-Plasma Tank, the Paradoxical Battery and the Long Haul Thruster for that.
๐งญ How to upgrade toward your best ship
A sensible order for beginners, based on the permit costs:
- Upgrade the starter ship: Scanalyzer Alpha (Modular Systems permit, 40 credits), Small Cargo Hold and solar panels. That gets mining going.
- Unlock structure: Modular Structures (300 credits) opens hull editing. Then Ship of Steel (3,000 credits) for steel hulls and the base Shipyard.
- More cargo and lasers: Modular Systems 2 (2,000 credits) brings the Cargo Hold and the Hi-Pi Laser.
- Switch to Titanium: Better Titanium (7,000 credits) gives you lighter hulls with more System Support, including the large formats.
- Specialize: only then do Levinium, Solid Frame or the level 6 thrusters pay off, depending on whether your best ship should be a miner, a freighter or a long-range explorer.
How hull types and System Support work together is explained in our SpaceCraft modules guide.
โ ๏ธ Common ship building mistakes
- More modules than your System Support can carry: every module then works worse.
- A large cargo hold without enough thruster force: the design is underpowered.
- Lots of thrusters on a pure miner: since Major Update #1 that costs maneuverability and acceleration.
- Only solar panels on board: on the night side of a planet your battery drains fast.
โ FAQ: SpaceCraft best ship
What is the best ship in SpaceCraft?
There are no fixed ship classes. The best ship is the one where System Support, thruster force and power fit its job.
Which hull material is best?
For most builds Titanium: a Titanium 4x3x2 has 360 SP of System Support at 24 t, a Steel 4x3x2 only 240 SP at 30 t. Levinium is lighter, but its Hull value is very low.
Which thruster is the fastest?
The "Long Haul" Thruster with 150 thrust, at the cost of maneuverability according to the patch notes. The "Silent" Thruster is more balanced.
How many ships can a Corporation own?
According to the dev blog "Feature Focus 2" from January 2026, up to 12 shared ships and 12 bases, on top of the members' personal ships.
