Soulframe Flyblades 2026: How to Get Throwing Knives and Use Them as a Sidearm
Soulframe Flyblades are one of three sidearm types in Digital Extremes' fantasy game: small throwing knives you hurl at enemies or send circling around your character. They give your main weapon a flexible ranged option. This guide covers what Flyblades are, how the sidearm slot works, how to use them in combat and where to get Precklies and Skilter.
โ๏ธ What are Soulframe Flyblades?
Sidearms in Soulframe are secondary weapons you carry next to your main weapon and can swap to instantly. According to the community-run wiki at wiki.avakot.org there are three categories: Short Blades, Flyblades and Magick sidearms like Odiac. The key difference: Short Blades share their Combat Art with Short Blade main weapons, while Soulframe Flyblades bring their own Combat Art.
Flyblades are small, dagger-like knives. You either throw them at a target or summon them to orbit your Envoy and hit enemies in range. All known Flyblades deal Sharp damage and have a Smite chance, meaning the odds that a hit lets you pull an enemy's soul for bonus effects.
๐ก๏ธ All Soulframe Flyblades at a glance
Three Flyblades are known in the current Preludes phase. The table compares their core stats per Avakot (attack at weapon rank 0, as of October 2026). Numbers shift between builds during Preludes, so treat them as a guideline.
| Flyblade | Tier | Attack | Orbit | Stagger | Smite | Attunement |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Precklies | 1-Star | 31 | 4 | 4 | 4% | Grace |
| Skilter | 2-Star | 33 | 5 | 6 | 4% | 7 Courage, 6 Grace |
| Thrice Spurns | 2-Star | 32 | 6 | 6 | 3% | 7 Courage |
Quick breakdown: Orbit is the damage of the circling attack and grows with weapon rank (Precklies goes from 4 to 28 per the wiki). Stagger shows how hard a hit rocks enemies. Attunement decides which Virtues (Grace, Courage or Spirit) the damage is tied to and what minimum values you need to use the weapon fully.
๐ Getting a sidearm and switching to it
To use Soulframe Flyblades, you first need one in your inventory. Since Preludes 15 โGods and Ghostsโ that no longer runs through fragments and the smith Tuvalkane. According to Avakot, Precklies and Skilter now drop fully forged with a random Craftwork tier. Only players who collected fragments before Preludes 15 can still craft them.
- Kill the right enemies or open the right containers in Midrath (see below) until a Flyblade drops.
- Or buy one: Precklies from the Kith of Kings enclave, Skilter from the Wares of Zenith (prices below).
- Equip the blade in the Arsenal in the Nightfold, just like your main weapon.
In combat you then switch between main weapon and sidearm with R. The swap is fast, so you can chain melee and ranged attacks.
๐ฏ How to use Soulframe Flyblades in combat
Flyblades handle very differently from Short Blades. Two basic actions matter:
- Throw: the light attack throws the blades at your target. It can't be charged.
- Orbit: the heavy attack sends the blades circling your Envoy, where they hit nearby enemies. Charging extends the duration.
That's how Avakot describes it. Per the wiki, the orbiting blades also break nearby pots and barrels. Because Flyblades work at range, they are great for tagging enemies before they reach you or hitting floating loot and targets you can't reach in melee.
All Flyblades share one Combat Art tree. Each blade gives 5 points for it on the way to rank 30, according to the wiki, so leveling several models pays off. More on the trees in the Combat Arts guide.
๐ฆ How to get each Flyblade
Since Preludes 15 you get Precklies and Skilter fully forged from certain enemies, containers or vendors. The details below come from Avakot (as of October 2026), not from official patch notes.
Precklies (1-Star)
Precklies is the starter Flyblade. Per the wiki it drops from Bisulcam, Fore-Feller Hewyl (also in the Cogah), Gruulseeker Selvins, Nimrod, Sinecure Scout, Sinecure Elite Scout and Sinecure Gruulseeker, plus Skylantern Crates. You can buy it from the Kith of Kings enclave from rank 1 (โCateran of Clan Jotarโ) for 1,000 Favour.
- Reforge at Tuvalkane per the wiki: 1 Joinery (Quicksilver or Gildaur), plus:
- 15x Scrap Steel
- 15x Scrap Brass
- 25x Sproutfolk Frond
- 1,500 Dracs
- Time: instant, requires Bond rank 2 with Tuvalkane
Skilter (2-Star)
Skilter is an Ode'n Flyblade with slightly higher stats than Precklies. Per the wiki it drops in the Operation Hark, The Collector, from Gruul-Seeker Ruthos (also in the Cogah) and Sinecure Gruulseeker, plus Buried Banneret Chests (Rovgot), Collector Crates and Ode'n Weapon Racks. At the Wares of Zenith it costs 120 Arcs.
- Reforge at Tuvalkane per the wiki: 1 Joinery (Quicksilver or Gildaur), plus:
- 25x Scrap Brass
- 20x Silistyt
- 20x Corrupt Onyx
- 2,500 Dracs
- Time: instant
For the attunement bonus you need 7 Courage and 6 Grace per the wiki. Since Preludes 13 Hotfix 5 the requirement was 7/7, and the wiki infobox now shows 7/6, so check the tooltip in game. That makes Skilter interesting for builds that mix Courage and Grace. According to the wiki, Skilter is exempt from the normal attunement cap and can reach up to 200% bonus damage. Full farming route in our Skilter guide.
Thrice Spurns (2-Star)
Thrice Spurns is a special case: you don't farm it and you don't craft it. It is a bonus item from the Wyld Tethren and Paragon Founders Packs. With the highest Orbit value of the three and a requirement of 7 Courage it is a strong option, but only for supporters who own that pack.
๐ก Tips for Soulframe Flyblades
- Precklies first, then upgrade: take the first Precklies that drops (or buy it from Kith of Kings) and keep an eye out for Skilter.
- Hunt Sinecure Gruulseekers: per the wiki this enemy is on the drop list for both Precklies and Skilter.
- Mind the Smite chance: combine Flyblade hits with Smite to pull souls and trigger bonus effects.
- Keep tuning weapons: Joineries let you change weapons further later on. Look into them when you refine your build.
- Plan attunement: Skilter and Thrice Spurns need specific Virtue values. Spend your points accordingly, or the blade won't reach its full potential.
