Soulframe Epithets: How to Unlock All 53 Names and Conditions

Soulframe Epithets: How to Unlock All 53 Names and Conditions

Unlocking Soulframe Epithets means finishing specific tasks in Alca so you can give a Legendary weapon a title at Tuvalkane. With Preludes 16 “Of Hook and Hound” the official patch notes list 49 Epithets. Hotfix 1 removed one, Hotfix 4 added five more, so there are 53 now.

This guide lists every condition, shows which names count retroactively and which you might already own, and in what order unlocking them makes sense. We give the names exactly as they appear in the official patch notes.

🏷️ What are Soulframe Epithets?

An Epithet is a title for a weapon at the Legendary Craftwork tier. When you upgrade a weapon to Legendary at the smith Tuvalkane, it plays its own animation and prompts you to pick a name right away. You can only choose from the Soulframe Epithets you have already earned.

The patch notes list no stat bonuses for these titles. Based on everything Digital Extremes has published, they are a badge: they show what you have achieved with your Envoy, such as 500 kills with bows or 25 runs through a dungeon. If you optimize for damage, you can ignore them. If you collect, you have a new long-term goal.

⚒️ How to name a weapon at Tuvalkane

  • New Legendary weapon: after upgrading via “Enhance Craftwork” (formerly “Refine”), the name selection opens automatically.
  • Weapon that is already Legendary: in the “Enhance Craftwork” tab, choose “Name Weapon” at the bottom of the weapon card.
  • Renaming: possible at any time per the patch notes. An Epithet isn't a final decision.

The name slot depends on Craftwork, not weapon rank. A Temper transfer needs a rank 30 weapon, while a title needs Legendary. How Tempers and Craftwork work together is explained in our Tempers guide.

🔁 Retroactive or not: the most important difference

For technical reasons, Soulframe only counts some conditions retroactively. Retroactive means progress from before Preludes 16 is credited. If you've played for a long time, you may already have these Soulframe Epithets unlocked on your first visit to Tuvalkane. For all the others, the counter started at zero with the update on September 18, 2026.

From the original list, 16 retroactive and 32 newly earned Soulframe Epithets remain. Add the five names from Hotfix 4: for Couleurer, Hotfix 4 explicitly says it counts retroactively, the other four have no note. The numbers come from our own count of the official lists, minus “Star Mortar”, which Hotfix 1 removed.

⚔️ Weapon types: 9 Epithets, all retroactive

This is where the easiest names are, because your past kills count.

EpithetCondition
The Longest Bladedefeat 500 enemies with Long Blades
Murkplume500 enemies with Short Blades
Doppelhänder500 enemies with Heavy Weapons
Hethensith500 enemies with Bows
Gandura500 enemies with Magick weapons
Hunter's Aegis500 enemies with Shield weapons
Wingèd Ruin500 enemies with Flyblades
Denary Pole500 enemies with Polearms
Abscurica1,000 enemies with Sidearms

Fun detail: “Doppelhänder” really is a German word, and that's how it appears in Soulframe's English original. Abscurica is the only weapon-type Epithet that needs 1,000 kills instead of 500. If you play polearms, the Polearm build has the right setup for Denary Pole.

Gandura couldn't be completed at the launch of Preludes 16. According to Hotfix 2 on September 21, that bug is fixed.

👹 Enemy factions: 3 names

  • Catacrux: defeat 100 Mendicant enemies.
  • Curer of Sin: defeat 100 Ode'n enemies.
  • Ichor Scab: defeat 100 Vadagar enemies.

None of these count retroactively. Catacrux and Curer of Sin come naturally while playing. For Ichor Scab you need Vadagar enemies. Helpful: since Preludes 16, Vadagar Agari no longer vanish as quickly when dawn breaks, according to the patch notes.

🩸 Cogah Agari: 15 Epithets, also in a party

The biggest group is listed under “Cogah Mastery” in the Soulframe patch notes. It doesn't count retroactively but can explicitly be done in a party. How to start the hard mode with the elixir is in the Cogah guide. The matchmaking added in Preludes 16 doesn't work under Cogah, so invite your teammates directly.

EpithetCondition
Of The Sleevedefeat any 10 Cogah Agari
GrimwishAgari “Flayed Reaper”
CarverAgari “Kabocha”
Felling AxeAgari “Fore-Feller Hewyl”
Barb of BeneficeAgari “Sinecure-errant Vella”
Blade-ErrantAgari “Sinecure-errant Gawth”
RegencideAgari “Mendicant King”
ChivalrazorAgari “Knell Knight”
DestrierAgari “Mendicant Reinbreaker”
TwicefelledAgari “Mendicant Knights”
MimikerisAgari “Thrice-Bound Impidh”
InsulliedAgari “Discharged Nimrod”
TormenatusAgari “Gruul-Seeker Ruthos”
SwatterAgari “Etheldred The Weaver”
Wraith WasterAgari “Wraith of Wastes”

The individual conditions only say “Defeat the Agari X”. That the kill has to happen under Cogah follows from the section heading, not from the wording of each line. To be safe, plan those kills with the elixir. Locations and a route for the Agari are in the world boss guide.

💡 Star Mortar no longer exists. The patch notes listed a 16th Cogah Epithet for “Banneret Toshtan”. Hotfix 1 removed it: according to Digital Extremes, that enemy isn't an Agari at all, so the Epithet was never obtainable. If you're looking for it, you're chasing a ghost.

🗡️ Combat technique: 8 names

This group is mixed. The first five only count since Preludes 16:

  • Soul-Bibber: perform 100 Pull Smites.
  • Mistbrand: 100 parries.
  • The Talus: defeat 100 enemies with heavy attacks.
  • Wrakedom: defeat 100 enemies with Ripostes.
  • Silvernsent: defeat 100 enemies with headshots.

These, on the other hand, count retroactively:

  • Rattling Death: defeat 100 enemies with finishers.
  • Perdurant: defeat 100 enemies while below 50 percent health.
  • Unweaver: defeat 100 enemies while all runes are fully charged.

Mistbrand fits Soulframe's new combat system well, since the parry startup delay is gone with Preludes 16. How to time parries cleanly is in the parry and stagger guide. For Unweaver it helps that runes now charge through normal hits too, though they slowly lose charge outside combat.

🗺️ Events and dungeons: 8 names

EpithetCondition
Madabanecomplete 10 encounters with The Collector
Laudanumcomplete 10 encounters with The Organ
Besetn'tcomplete 5 Sieges
Folksbladecomplete 10 Votives
Jotar's Promisecomplete The Dermak Undercity 25 times
Gladen Scythecomplete Glades of Andurin 25 times
Arbearer's Rootscomplete Neath'uns 25 times
Circadiancomplete Crypt of the Circade 10 times

None of these count retroactively. The three 25-run dungeons are the longest grind in the whole system. The reworked chests make it worthwhile: since Preludes 16, solved puzzles guarantee a rare chest, and the new weapon Grimana only drops from Glades of Andurin dungeons from level 25, according to Hotfix 3. The dungeons at a glance are in the dungeon guide.

📦 Ancestors and collecting: 5 names

  • Kane's Revenant: forge 9 armor pieces (retroactive).
  • Sung of Steel: bring 6 weapons to Legendary (retroactive).
  • Stirring Stick: brew 9 elixirs (retroactive). Per Hotfix 4 it now also shows up in Tuvalkane's list.
  • Coffee Cracker: open 100 rare chests (not retroactive).
  • Hoard-Warden: collect 10,000 Dracs (retroactive).

Most Soulframe veterans probably own Hoard-Warden already. Whether Dracs you spent long ago count isn't stated explicitly in the patch notes. What else Dracs are good for is in the Dracs guide.

🆕 New in Hotfix 4: 5 Epithets

Hotfix 4 on September 29 added five Soulframe Epithets:

EpithetCondition
Couleurercollect 3 Figments (retroactive)
The Steedlesstravel 100,000 meters on foot
Finnerkinswim 1,000 meters
Harmonydefeat 100 enemies with runes
The Scathelessdefeat 5 enemies without taking damage

According to Hotfix 4, Harmony currently shows the wrong name in game. When you look in Tuvalkane's list, search by condition, not just by title. Only for Couleurer does Hotfix 4 mention retroactive counting.

💡 Order: unlock Soulframe Epithets efficiently

  1. Check what you already have. The 17 retroactive Epithets, including Couleurer from Hotfix 4, cost you nothing. Open “Name Weapon” on a Legendary weapon and look at the list.
  2. Let passive goals run. Catacrux, Curer of Sin, Folksblade and the combat technique Epithets come with normal play.
  3. Bundle Cogah in a group. Agari fall faster with friends, and every kill counts toward the single Epithets and Of The Sleeve.
  4. Dungeon Epithets last. 25 runs per dungeon is a long-term project you should combine with chest farming.

❓ Soulframe Epithets FAQ

What do Epithets do in Soulframe?

The Preludes 16 patch notes list no stat bonuses. An Epithet is a title for a Legendary weapon that shows which task you completed.

How many Epithets are there in Soulframe?

The official patch notes list 49. Hotfix 1 removed “Star Mortar”, Hotfix 4 added five. That makes 53, at least 17 of them retroactive.

Can I change an Epithet later?

Yes. Per the patch notes you can rename Legendary weapons any time via “Name Weapon” in the “Enhance Craftwork” tab.

Do kills in a party count?

For the Cogah Agari Epithets, explicitly yes: the patch notes say “Can be accomplished in a Party”. They make no statement for other groups.

Why can't I select Grandur?

Digital Extremes lists a known issue in Hotfix 1: players who received the title “Grandur” retroactively can't apply the Epithet to weapons. Per Hotfix 1 it's being investigated. We found no fix in the notes for Hotfixes 2 to 4. Its condition isn't in any of the patch note lists.

📚 Sources and status

All names and conditions come from the official Preludes 16 “Of Hook and Hound” patch notes and Hotfixes 1 to 4 (September 19, 21, 24 and 29, 2026) in the Soulframe forum, all from Digital Extremes. The split into retroactive and new Epithets and the count of 49 minus 1 plus 5 are our own tally of those lists. There is no official wiki. For an overview of the whole update, see our Soulframe Preludes 16 article.

Status: Preludes 16 with Hotfix 6 as of October 2026 (Hotfix 5 contains no Epithet changes, Hotfix 6 fixes a script error in Epithet progress), per the official patch notes. Soulframe is in its pre-alpha “Preludes” phase, so names and conditions can change with upcoming hotfixes.
