Planet Crafter Equipment Guide: All Tiers, Recipes and the Best Order

Planet Crafter Equipment Guide: All Tiers, Recipes and the Best Order

Short answer: Planet Crafter equipment comes in five upgrade lines: Oxygen Tank (T1 to T5), Backpack (T1 to T7), Jetpack (T1 to T5), Agility Boots (T1 to T3) and Exoskeleton (the item database lists T1 to T5). Every tier uses the previous tier as an ingredient, and how many pieces you can wear at once depends only on your Exoskeleton.

The order that makes sense: Backpack and Oxygen Tank first, then the Exoskeleton, then Jetpack and boots. This guide reflects version v2.102 "Skeo", which went live for free on September 1, 2026 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and GOG at the same time. You no longer need a development branch for it.

โš’๏ธ Planet Crafter equipment: the five lines at a glance

Equipment in this game isn't an armor system. There are no defense values and no durability. Each piece is a permanent item that sits in an equipment slot and works passively until you replace it with the next tier.

Six item groups share those slots. Five are classic tier upgrades, the sixth are the mining speed microchips.

One thing up front: Miju Games doesn't maintain an official recipe database, and The Planet Crafter has no official wiki. All numbers here come from community sources, mainly the Planet Crafter Fandom wiki and several Steam guides. They agree with each other but aren't confirmed by Miju Games. Double-check them in the build list of your own version.

๐Ÿงช Oxygen Tank T1 to T5: the only fully documented chain

The Oxygen Tank has the cleanest documented values. It's also the first thing you build: T1 can be crafted right at the craft station in your landing pod, no requirements.

TierUnlockRecipeTotal capacity
T1From the start2ร— Cobalt, 1ร— Iron, 1ร— Magnesium145
T2Pressure 70 nPaT1 tank, 1ร— Silicon, 1ร— Cobalt, 1ร— Titanium, 2ร— Magnesium200
T3Oxygen 5.00 pptT2 tank, 1ร— Iron, 1ร— Titanium, 1ร— Silicon, 1ร— Magnesium, 1ร— Aluminum280
T4Advanced Craft StationT3 tank, 3ร— Super Alloy, 1ร— Cobalt370
T5High system Terraformation Index (endgame)T4 tank, 2ร— Super Alloy, 2ร— Quasar Quartz, 1ร— Cosmic Quartz, 3ร— Circuit board450

Two things stand out. Capacity roughly triples across the chain, but the biggest single jump already happens between T1 and T2. And T5 is a pure endgame item: the required system Terraformation Index is only realistic once several worlds are running.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Backpack: the upgrade that saves the most time

The Backpack has the biggest day-to-day impact, because every extra slot saves you a trip back to base. Here too, each tier consumes the one before it.

  • T1: 2ร— Iron. Available immediately and usually the very first craft in the game.
  • T2: T1 Backpack, 1ร— Iron, 1ร— Silicon, 1ร— Titanium
  • T3: T2 Backpack, 2ร— Aluminum, 1ร— Titanium, 1ร— Silicon
  • T4: T3 Backpack, 3ร— Super Alloy, 1ร— Titanium. From here on only at the Advanced Craft Station.

For T5 to T7, the recipe lists floating around online contradict each other and date back to before version 2.0. So no numbers here: these three tiers exist, use the Advanced Craft Station and unlock through the system Terraformation Index. Read the exact amounts from the build list in your version.

โœจ Jetpack T1 to T5: expensive, but the biggest comfort upgrade

The Jetpack is what most players work toward. It uses neither fuel nor oxygen and keeps you hovering slightly above the ground, which boosts travel speed massively. You get it late anyway, because T1 already costs two Rocket Engines.

TierRecipeNote
T12ร— Rocket Engine, 1ร— TitaniumRocket Engines come from the Advanced Craft Station
T2T1 Jetpack, 1ร— Super Alloy, 1ร— Sulfur, 1ร— Osmium, 1ร— AluminumFirst tier that needs Osmium
T3T2 Jetpack, 1ร— Super Alloy, 2ร— Osmium, 2ร— Explosive powderOsmium demand doubles
T4 and T5Endgame materials, unlocked through system TiT5 is the highest tier that exists

The bottleneck is Osmium. Since the rework it no longer comes from visible veins but from the Ore Extractor, so plan power and extractor capacity before you aim for Jetpack T2.

Players in the Steam discussions explicitly confirm that T5 is the cap: only the Backpack goes up to T6 and T7, the Jetpack ends at T5. The item database also lists exactly T1 to T5 Jetpacks. That's community and data-mined information, not a statement from the developer.

๐Ÿ’ก Boots and Exoskeleton: the underrated slot factor

Agility Boots come in three tiers. Community guides list +15, +30 and +45 percent running speed. Recipes: T1 from 2ร— Aluminum and 2ร— Fabric, T2 from the T1 boots plus 2ร— Super Alloy and 2ร— Fabric, T3 from the T2 boots plus 2ร— Super Alloy and 1ร— Explosive powder.

The Exoskeleton is the piece that decides everything. It has no ability of its own and only adds equipment slots. Without free slots, the best Jetpack is useless. Community sources list 8 slots for T1, 12 for T2 and 16 for T3. The item database lists T4 and T5 Exoskeletons on top; we couldn't find reliable slot numbers for those two.

More items compete for these slots than you'd expect: Oxygen Tank, Backpack, Jetpack, boots, flashlight, compass, build and deconstruction tools, filters and every microchip. If you neglect the Exoskeleton early, you end up crafting gear you can't equip. Which chips exist is covered in our blueprint microchips guide.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Mining speed chips: why the drill isn't part of this

This is the most common misunderstanding. The Drill and the Ore Extractor are buildings, not equipment. They have their own tiers, need power and can't be equipped. The mining speed chips (Microchip - T1 Mining Speed to T4) only affect your hand tool.

The internal item names from the game files back this up: the chips are called MultiToolMineSpeed1 to MultiToolMineSpeed4. The name points straight at the multitool, not at the extractor. If you craft a chip hoping for faster extractors, you waste an equipment slot.

In practice the chips pay off while you gather a lot by hand, so early to mid game. Later, once extractors do the work, that slot is better spent on Jetpack and tank.

๐Ÿ”— The best order for your Planet Crafter equipment

  • 1. Backpack T1 and Oxygen Tank T1: both on day one, both dirt cheap
  • 2. Exoskeleton T1: from 1ร— Titanium, 1ร— Silicon and 1ร— Magnesium, otherwise you run out of slots right away
  • 3. Backpack T2 and Oxygen Tank T2: as soon as pressure and basic materials allow
  • 4. Mining Speed chip T1: saves noticeable time during the hand-mining phase
  • 5. Agility Boots T1: cheap as long as you have spare Fabric
  • 6. Advanced Craft Station: the door opener for everything from T4
  • 7. Jetpack T1: only after that, otherwise the Rocket Engines are too expensive
  • 8. Everything else as needed: tank and backpack tiers keep going into the endgame

A note on moving: your equipped gear comes with you when you switch to another planet, your loose inventory doesn't come along without limits. Planning a move? The planets overview and our guide to the Skeo moon cover where you can go.

โ“ Planet Crafter equipment FAQ

How many tiers does each piece of equipment have?

Oxygen Tank and Jetpack go up to T5, the Backpack up to T7, the Agility Boots up to T3 and the mining speed chips up to T4. For the Exoskeleton, community guides list four tiers, while the item database for v2.102 lists five.

Do I still need the old tier for upgrades?

Yes. Every tier requires the finished previous item as an ingredient. Don't sell or recycle your old tank before the upgrade is done.

Why can't I equip my Jetpack?

Your equipment slots are full. The number depends on your Exoskeleton, and one tier higher frees up space. Or take out chips you don't need right now.

Does the Jetpack use fuel or oxygen?

No. According to community sources it flies indefinitely without consuming resources. It only costs you a slot and the crafting materials.

Do mining speed chips speed up my Ore Extractors?

No. Based on the game files and community tests they only affect your hand tool. For faster buildings you need higher Ore Extractor and Ore Crusher tiers.

Do I need the development branch for these values?

No. v2.102 "Skeo" has been the regular version on all platforms since September 1, 2026.

As of October 8, 2026, game version v2.102 "Skeo". Officially confirmed are only the version, release date and platforms, from Miju Games' Steam news post of September 1, 2026.

All recipes, capacities, slot counts and percentages are community information from the Planet Crafter Fandom wiki, Steam guides and Steam discussions; item names and tier counts were cross-checked against the planetcrafter.th.gl item database (data-mined). The Planet Crafter has no official wiki. Values can change with future patches. For the terraforming basics, see our terraformation stages guide or the Planet Crafter hub.
