Fallout 76 Stash Limit 2026: How to Make the Most of 1,200 Pounds
The Fallout 76 stash limit has been 1,200 pounds since January 26, 2021, and you cannot raise it, not with perk cards and not with extra stash boxes in your C.A.M.P. Fallout 1st adds separate storage with the scrapbox and ammo box, but leaves the 1,200 pound cap itself alone. The 800 pounds you still see quoted is a 2019 value and long out of date, so the only fix is clearing things out, in the right order.
📦 Fallout 76 stash limit: where the cap really is today
The stash box launched in 2018 with 400 pounds. Patch 1.0.6.0 on February 19, 2019 raised it from 600 to 800 pounds, and on January 26, 2021 Bethesda added another 50 percent with version 1.5.1.25/1.5.1.26: 1,200 pounds. The value has not changed since. The update notes for “The Slasher” on September 15, 2026 (version 1.7.26.13) do not change it either. They only lower the stash weight of legendary modules from 0.15 to 0.05. If a site or forum post still says 800 pounds, that information is more than five years old.
Two things you can skip: there is no perk, item or purchase that raises the 1,200 pounds. And building a second stash box does nothing, because every box in Appalachia accesses the same inventory. It is an engine limit that Bethesda has stretched in several steps. If you are new and still getting used to inventory and C.A.M.P., the basics are in our Fallout 76 beginner guide.
⚖️ What really eats weight in your stash
Most full stashes look the same: a pile of intact junk, four kinds of ammo that never touched a weapon and two half power armor sets. Intact junk weighs a lot more than the components you get from it. A toolbox in your stash is wasted weight; scrap it into steel, screws and oil and it shrinks noticeably. So the rule is: never store raw junk, always run it through the workbench first.
Ammo is the second big item, because it has weight in Fallout 76 and piles up without you noticing. Calibers you do not shoot do not belong in your stash but in the Ammo Converter or your vending machine. For power armor, the classic community trick helps: put the pieces on a chassis instead of hoarding them loose; the chassis itself counts for 10 pounds. Tiers and mods are covered in the power armor guide.
The priority list: what goes first
| Priority | Eats a lot of weight | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Intact junk (tools, fans, coffee pots) | Scrap it all, store only components |
| 2 | Ammo for weapons you do not use | Trade it at the Ammo Converter or sell it |
| 3 | Loose power armor pieces | Mount them on a chassis instead of storing them loose |
| 4 | Legendary weapons and armor kept “for later” | Turn them into scrip and modules at the Legendary Exchange |
| 5 | Duplicate weapons and full armor sets | Scrap them; you keep the mods |
| 6 | Food, drinks and chems in the stash | Carry them and lighten them with perks, or use them up |
| 7 | Duplicate plans and learned recipes | Sell instead of storing, scrap learned plans |
Point 4 is the underrated one: legendaries are heavy and sit unused in many players' stashes for years. How to turn them into currency is in our legendary modules guide, and which targets are worth it is covered in the legendary farming guide. If you make room by selling, you pick up caps on the way; methods for that are in the caps farm guide.
⚠️ Three myths that do not save you a single pound
- Displays: Weapons in displays and armor on mannequins still count fully against your stash weight, according to consistent community reports. Displays stopped costing C.A.M.P. budget in an older patch, but they do not lighten your stash.
- Vending machine: Whatever you put in your vending machine stays in your stash. Only the sale frees up space, not the listing.
- Perk cards: Weight-reducing perks only work in your inventory, not in the stash. The reason is simple: otherwise you could overfill your stash with perks equipped and then take the cards off.
🔧 Perk cards: saving weight, but only on your body
Carry weight perks still matter, because they decide how much you can move between stash and workbench. Your base carry weight is 150 plus five per point of Strength, with a hard limit of 1,500 pounds above the maximum. These cards are listed in the vault76.de perk database, with values at max rank:
- Pack Rat (Strength, two ranks): junk weighs up to 75 percent less
- Bandolier (Strength, two ranks): ballistic ammo up to 90 percent lighter
- Batteries Included (Intelligence, two ranks): energy ammo up to 90 percent lighter
- The Strength card for explosives (two ranks): explosive weapons up to 90 percent lighter
- Arms Keeper (Strength, two ranks): weapons weigh up to 75 percent less
- Martial Artist (Strength, three ranks): melee weapons up to 60 percent lighter
- Traveling Pharmacy (Strength, two ranks): chems including Stimpaks up to 90 percent lighter
- Thru-Hiker (Endurance, two ranks): food and drinks up to 90 percent lighter
- Strong Back (Strength, one rank, costs 2 points): more carry weight based on your Strength
A detail many older guides get wrong: Thru-Hiker has been an Endurance card with only two ranks since patch 1.7.16.13 (up to 90 percent). Before that it was an Agility card with three ranks at 30/60/90 percent. If you plan from old build lists, you will look for the card in the wrong place. How to combine cards like these is shown in our best builds overview.
✅ What Fallout 1st solves, and what it does not
Fallout 1st is a paid subscription, available monthly or yearly; your store shows the current price. Two things matter for your stash problem: the scrapbox with unlimited space for crafting components and the ammo box for ammo. Both are separate containers, and what you put in them does not count against the 1,200 pounds.
What Fallout 1st does not do: it does not raise the stash limit. Weapons, armor, aid, plans, mods and intact junk stay in your normal stash. If you mainly collect legendaries and armor sets, you have exactly the same problem with the subscription as without it. Also note: if your subscription runs out, you can still access the contents of the scrapbox and ammo box, but you cannot store anything new.
The honest comparison: for crafters who stockpile steel, lead, hardened mass and adhesive, the scrapbox is a real gain. For collectors of weapons and skins it changes nothing. A free substitute is the “scrap instead of store” principle plus consistent selling. It is slower, but it costs nothing.
💡 Fallout 76 stash limit FAQ
Can you increase the Fallout 76 stash limit?
No. The 1,200 pounds are fixed and cannot be raised through perks, items, levels or a subscription. Only Bethesda can change the value with a patch, which last happened on January 26, 2021.
Why do so many sources say 800 pounds?
Because 800 pounds really was the limit from February 2019 to January 2021. Plenty of forum threads, videos and articles from that period are still online uncorrected.
Does building more stash boxes in my C.A.M.P. help?
No. Every stash box, including the one in the survival tent, shows the same inventory. More boxes just mean more access points, not more capacity.
Does ammo in my vending machine count against the limit?
Yes. Everything you list for sale stays part of your stash until someone buys it. It is faster to convert surplus ammo or sell it straight to robot vendors.
Does bulking reduce stash weight?
Barely. According to community tests, only some materials, mainly aluminum and lead, get lighter when bulked. For most components, bulking is just prep for selling and saves no weight.
Did the 2026 patches change the limit?
Not as of now. Neither the Infestations update nor Patch 70 (“The Slasher”, September 15, 2026) raises the stash limit. Patch 70 only lowers the stash weight of legendary modules from 0.15 to 0.05.
Checked against Fallout 76 as of October 2026. Official basis: Bethesda patch notes for version 1.0.6.0 (February 19, 2019, 600 to 800 pounds) and 1.5.1.25/1.5.1.26 (January 26, 2021, 800 to 1,200 pounds), plus the update notes for “The Slasher” (September 15, 2026, version 1.7.26.13). Perks, ranks and max values per the vault76.de perk database; Strong Back's single rank, carry weight formula and Fallout 1st features per fallout.wiki.
Community consensus (not officially confirmed, but widely reported): weight-reducing perks do not work in the stash, displays and vending machines still count against the limit, the power armor chassis trick, and the bulking exceptions for aluminum and lead. Values may change with future updates; when in doubt, check in game.
