Fallout 76 Mutated Events: All 8 Mutations, Rewards and Tips

Fallout 76 mutated events are public events where every enemy carries an extra mutation, such as Volatile, Active Camouflage or Reflective Skin. On top of the normal rewards you get a Mutated Package with a chance at rare plans, weapons and mutation serums. They only run during scheduled windows on the community calendar, but then every hour.

This guide explains how the mechanic works, which eight mutations exist, which ten open-world events can mutate and how to set up your build for the nastiest ones. Mutation names and descriptions come from Bethesda's official update notes for Mutation Invasion.

๐Ÿงช What Are Mutated Events in Fallout 76?

Mutated public events arrived with the Mutation Invasion update on February 28, 2023. The idea comes from Daily Ops, where enemies had already been carrying mutations for a while. Bethesda pitched them as strange evolutionary upgrades that make your enemies even deadlier. The update moved that idea into the open world.

The rule is simple: while a window on the calendar is active, a mutated public event fires at the top of every hour. You recognize it on the map by its own icon. Everything else in that hour runs normally. Outside the announced weeks there are no Fallout 76 mutated events.

According to community databases, exactly one mutation is active per event. It applies to all enemies in that event, not just single bosses. Bethesda hasn't announced plans for two mutations at once.

โš ๏ธ Don't Confuse Them With Double Mutations

The same calendar regularly lists Double Mutations too. That's a completely different event: it doubles the positive effects of your own player mutations, and enemies stay normal. In Fallout 76 mutated events, the mutation hits your enemies instead.

The table lists every mutation with the description from Bethesda's official update notes. The danger column is our own editorial rating, not game data.

Active CamouflageEnemies are cloaked when not attacking.medium
ResilientEnemies can only be slain with a melee attack.high for ranged

Reflective SkinEnemies periodically enter a reflective state that sends back some of the direct damage done to them.high for bloodied builds

According to the community wiki, two mutations from Daily Ops don't appear in the open world. The eight above are the full pool.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Which Events Can Mutate

Not every public event is affected. Bethesda enabled ten of them at launch, and Nuka Knights still lists the same ten in its overview (as of November 2025):

  • Uranium Fever
  • One Violent Night
  • Test Your Metal
  • Moonshine Jamboree
  • Eviction Notice
  • Lode Baring
  • Guided Meditation
  • Swarm of Suitors
  • Line in the Sand
  • Heart of the Swamp

Every other event runs without a mutation, even during the event week.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Rewards: Mutated Package and Mutated Party Pack

According to Bethesda, finishing one of the Fallout 76 mutated events gives the normal event rewards plus bonus currency. On top of that you get the Mutated Package with meds, resources, ammo, a legendary item and a chance at rare plans.

If at least three participants are active Fallout 1st members, every participant gets the Mutated Party Pack instead, with better rewards and higher chances at rare plans. You don't need a subscription yourself for that.

ContentMutated PackageMutated Party Pack
plan (chance)25%50%
weapon (chance)5%10%
mutation serum (chance)5%10%

Super Stimpaks56

Heads-up, community data: the percentages come from the Fandom wiki and aren't confirmed by Bethesda. Nuka Knights lists only 10% instead of 25% for plans in the normal package. Both sources agree that the Party Pack at least doubles the odds. So it pays to look for servers with lots of players.

๐ŸŽฏ Fallout 76 Mutated Events: Which Ones Are Worth It

The reward doesn't depend on the mutation, but the effort does. A mutated event with Toxic Blood is barely harder than the normal version, while Resilient can stop a pure ranged build cold. Rule of thumb: check the mutation first, then decide.

  • Easy solo: events with many weak enemies, like Uranium Fever. Volume is what counts, and mutations like Toxic Blood or Active Camouflage change little.
  • Better in a team: events with tough single enemies, like the Scorchbeasts in Line in the Sand. With Group Regeneration or Reflective Skin those fights drag on noticeably.
  • Use full servers: the more players join, the sooner three Fallout 1st members come together and the Party Pack kicks in for everyone.
  • On the side: public events show up regularly in season challenges. If you're farming S.C.O.R.E. anyway, see our Fallout 76 S.C.O.R.E. farming guide and combine both.

๐Ÿ’ก Build Tips Against Common Mutations

No build handles all eight mutations equally well. If you play a lot of Fallout 76 mutated events during the event week, keep a backup weapon on your favorites wheel. Which base setup fits you is covered in our Fallout 76 best builds guide.

Resilient: Keep a Melee Weapon Ready

Here the type of the final hit matters, not the damage. Many players report that enemies stay standing or get back up until a melee attack finishes them. Put a light melee weapon on your favorites, wear enemies down at range and finish them up close.

Volatile: Keep Your Distance

This mutation punishes melee and close-range shotguns. Every dead enemy turns into a bomb, and in dense waves like Uranium Fever the explosions add up. Switch to rifles or heavy weapons with range and stay behind the wave.

Reflective Skin: Hold Your Fire

Enemies regularly switch into a state where they send back part of the direct damage. For bloodied builds with low health this is the most dangerous mutation. As soon as an enemy goes reflective, switch targets for a moment. Higher resistances help too, see our Fallout 76 best armor guide.

Active Camouflage and Swift Footed

Cloaked enemies are mostly visible the moment they attack. In defense objectives, stay close to the target instead of running out to meet enemies. With Swift Footed, enemies close the distance faster. Automatic weapons and area damage hit more reliably here than slow single shots.

Freezing Touch, Toxic Blood and Group Regeneration

The slow from Freezing Touch gets dangerous mostly in melee crowds. Against Toxic Blood it's usually enough not to stand in the puddles. With Group Regeneration, area damage and focused single-target kills help so the group can't heal each other back up.

๐Ÿ“Š Fallout 76 Mutated Events: Status and Dates

Fallout 76 mutated events are tied to fixed windows on Bethesda's official community calendar. For Season 26, โ€œBeware the Blood Moon,โ€ the calendar graphic lists these two windows:

DatesCalendar entry
Sept 29 to Oct 6, 2026Mutated Public Events (over)
Nov 24 to Dec 1, 2026Mutated Public Events

Everything here reflects the state after The Slasher update on September 15, 2026. We know of no changes to mutations, the event list or packages from that update. The calendar graphic gives no start or end times. Nuka Knights lists the next window from Tuesday, November 24, 12:00 to Tuesday, December 1, 2026, 12:00, without a time zone.
