Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter 2026: Which Rewards You Can Still Get

Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter 2026: Which Rewards You Can Still Get

Of all the Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter rewards, only part is still available today: paints, outfits and some C.A.M.P. items moved into the reward pools of public events. The 15 player icons, the nine photomode frames and the trophies and statues stay with the players who played the battle royale mode back then.

This guide separates what Bethesda explicitly promised from what you can only infer from the game. That's exactly where most articles on the topic contradict each other.

๐Ÿ”’ The Short Answer

The battle royale mode in Fallout 76 ran from June 10, 2019 to September 8, 2021. It sent 52 players in teams of up to four into Vault 51, where the last survivor was crowned Overseer. Progress didn't run on your normal level but on the Overseer Rank, up to rank 100.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What Bethesda Explicitly Locked

In its Inside the Vault post on the shutdown, Bethesda names exactly one group that stays exclusive: โ€œitems like Statues and Trophies should only remain available to the players who achieved them by playing Nuclear Winter.โ€ That means six items.

ItemOverseer Rank
Bronze Nuclear Winter Trophy12
Silver Nuclear Winter Trophy24
Gold Nuclear Winter Trophy32
Bronze Nuclear Winter Statue57
Copper Nuclear Winter Statue69
Marble Nuclear Winter Statue77

If you see one of these statues in someone else's C.A.M.P. today, you're looking at a player with at least Overseer Rank 57. It's the only reliable in-game proof that someone played the mode seriously.

โœจ All 15 Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter Player Icons

The icons were tied only to Overseer Rank. They were never sold in the Atomic Shop. They show up there only because icon selection runs through that menu. That's a common mix-up and it regularly leads to the false claim that they were free gifts.

Notice that there wasn't a single new icon above rank 48. If you unlocked Mr. Handy, you own the full set. The remaining 52 ranks only gave paints, helmets, frames and the three statues.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ The Nine Photomode Frames

The frames are the most overlooked category and share the icons' fate: Vault (rank 3), Overseer promotion (9), Fiery Welcome (20), Ring of Fire (28), Best Friends (36), Four of a Kind (53), Squad Goals (61), Veteran (85) and Platinum (93). The last two are the real rarities. Very few players reached ranks 85 and 93.

๐Ÿ’ก What You Can Still Get Today

Most cosmetic items were moved as plans into the reward pools of running events. Bethesda names these:

  • A Colossal Problem
  • Encryptid
  • Project Paradise
  • Scorched Earth
  • the limited-time events Holiday Scorched and Treasure Hunters

There's a second route many players miss: the Hellfire Prototype power armor paint, originally the reward for the maximum Overseer Rank 100, now shows up in Minerva's rotating inventory and can be bought for Gold Bullion. The most prestigious item of the whole mode is now the easiest one to catch up on. When and where Minerva sets up shop is in our Fallout 76 Minerva guide, and the currency comes from our Fallout 76 gold bullion farming guide.

๐Ÿ“ฆ The C.A.M.P. Items in Detail

The build items deserve a second look, because people mix them up with the locked statues. Nuclear Winter gave three Vault-Tec style supply crates (small at rank 5, medium at 16, large at 40) and the Overseer chair at rank 10. These four are pure decor variants of existing build items and belong to the group Bethesda moved into event pools.

The trophies and statues look similar in the build menu, but they're the only items Bethesda confirmed as exclusive in writing. A crate in Nuclear Winter style tells you nothing about a player's Overseer Rank. A statue does.

๐Ÿช– Headwear and Paints From Rank 50

Above the icon limit the reward curve got thinner but better. Rank 50 gave the Gladiator mask, 73 the Centurion helmet, 89 the Makeshift Ronin helmet. In between came the power armor paint sets Outcast (60) and Inferno Mark 1 to 3 (65, 81, 97), before the Hellfire Prototype paint at rank 100.

These pieces are why the blanket statement that Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter is entirely legacy is wrong. This is the part of the mode you can still catch up on today, through events or Minerva.

๐Ÿ† What a Win Actually Earned

You won't find this section in other guides, because the values haven't been anywhere to look up since the shutdown. It's based on four match summaries from our own Nuclear Winter games, three of them with team placement 1. Every rate holds across several matches, and the totals add up exactly in all four.

Match summary after a win in Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter with the Overseer XP breakdown
ActionOverseer XP
Time survived15 per minute (to the second, rounded down)
Team placement 1525
Team placement 5200
Player killed20
Player downed10
AI kill5
Elite AI kill20
Revive20
Bonus XPthe sum of all items again

The real find is in the bonus row. In all four matches the bonus XP matched the sum of all other items to the point, so the mode simply doubled your earnings. A win with 22:48 survival time, three player kills and two AI kills gave 342 plus 525 plus 60 plus 10, so 937 points, plus 937 bonus, for exactly 1,874 Overseer XP.

In practice, surviving was by far the strongest income source. Staying alive for fifteen minutes gave about 225 points, a player kill only 20. If you were farming rank, careful play into the final circle beat aggressive hunting by a wide margin, unlike almost every other battle royale of that era.

Upcoming Overseer Rank rewards in Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter, including the Bronze Nuclear Winter Statue at rank 57

The summaries also show the upcoming rank rewards and confirm the tables above independently: rank 57 the bronze statue, rank 60 the Outcast power armor paint, rank 73 the Centurion helmet and rank 77 the marble statue.

The conversion to Adventure mode can't be derived cleanly. 1,864 Overseer XP turned into 10,682 XP and 62 caps there, 988 into only 5,548 XP and 18 caps. The factor ranged between five and six and clearly depended on character level and active bonuses, not on a fixed rate.

๐Ÿฉธ The Pennant: The Reward for Everyone

One thing really did go to every participant: โ€œEveryone who completed at least one Nuclear Winter match will receive a special Nuclear Winter-themed pennant that they can build in their C.A.M.P.s.โ€ A single finished match was enough. On top of that came a refund of six Perk Coins per earned Nuclear Winter perk card (up to 600) and one Perk Coin per Overseer ticket (up to 200).

๐Ÿ”— Why the Icons Won't Come Back

Honesty matters more than a neat answer here: Bethesda never said anything about player icons and frames. They simply don't appear in the shutdown announcement, neither as โ€œcoming backโ€ nor as โ€œstaying exclusive.โ€ If someone shows you an official quote on it, they made it up.

That they still count as unobtainable follows from the mechanics. Public events only hand out items and plans that land in your inventory and have to be learned. Icons and frames don't exist as items, they unlock at account level. There's simply no container an event could put an icon in. Consistent with that, not a single Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter icon has appeared in event loot, on a season board or in a shop bundle since September 2021.

In practice: unobtainable. Formally: no distribution path exists. If Bethesda ever put the icons on a season page, that wouldn't be a broken promise. What that could look like is shown by Fallout 76 Legacy Seasons, which now let you catch up on missed season rewards.

โ“ FAQ: Fallout 76 Nuclear Winter

Is Nuclear Winter coming back?

There's no announcement for that. Bethesda named falling player numbers and the inability to keep feeding the mode with quality content as reasons for the shutdown. Neither has changed.

Why do I see the icons in the Atomic Shop when I don't own them?

The menu shows the full icon catalog but only marks the unlocked ones as owned. You can only select those.

I had the icons and they disappeared. What now?

According to community reports, owners lost the display of their Nuclear Winter icons after an update in January 2025 due to a bug. We haven't found an official confirmation. If it happens, official support is the right place to go, not a new character.

Can I trade Nuclear Winter items?

No. Icons and frames are account-bound. Trophies and statues are learned plans and can't be transferred either.

Which Overseer Rank did the full icon set need?

Rank 48. After that came no more icons, only paints, helmets, statues and photomode frames up to rank 100, where the Hellfire Prototype paint waited.

Is farming the old paints still worth it?

Yes, if you like the look. The plans still drop in the events listed above. They're pure cosmetics with no gameplay value. For actual stats, our Fallout 76 power armor guide is the better read.

As of October 2026. Rank assignments and reward lists checked against the community wikis fallout.wiki and Fallout Fandom, statements on locked content, the pennant and the Perk Coins against Bethesda's Inside the Vault announcement on the shutdown. Treating icons and frames as unobtainable is our inference from the missing distribution paths, not an official statement. The XP values come from four of our own match summaries and were cross-checked against each other.
