Fallout 76 Infestations Update: Everything New in Patch 68

Fallout 76 Infestations Update: Everything New in Patch 68

The Fallout 76 Infestations update arrived on June 2, 2026 and brought dynamic faction takeovers with guaranteed 4-star drops, Season 25 "Appalachia Under Siege", five new 4-star mods and a reworked radiation system. The community site Nuka Knights counts it as "Patch 68"; Bethesda publishes version numbers but does not number its updates as patches.

On top of that came four new seasonal fish with a legendary local fish and first details on the next-gen console update. Here is everything new at a glance.

Infestations: the new endgame encounter

The centerpiece of the update: a hostile faction temporarily takes over an existing outdoor location in Appalachia, replaces the normal enemies with much tougher ones and fields a beefy faction boss. Kill the boss and you get a guaranteed 4-star legendary. That makes Infestations one of the most reliable sources of top endgame gear, with no daily or weekly lockout.

How to find the encounters and farm them efficiently is covered in our Infestations farming guide. Alongside this, the "Exploration" public team type was reworked for Infestations.

Season 25: "Appalachia Under Siege"

The 25th season started together with the update. It brought a new scoreboard with its own rewards for its full run. Which rewards were worth it and what sat on each page is broken down in our Season 25 rewards overview.

Five new 4-star mods

Five new 4-star mods drop exclusively from Infestation bosses: Tarnished, Vector, Raging, Satiated and Hauler's. They range from damage boosts (Tarnished, Vector) to a tank effect (Raging) and comfort (Satiated, Hauler's). Each costs 120 legendary modules plus an ingredient to craft. All effects, crafting costs and build tips are in our guide to the 5 new 4-star mods.

Radiation overhaul: every resistance point counts more

The biggest systemic change hits radiation. Radiation resistance is now much more effective: practically all armor, power armor, mods and consumables protect better against radiation. Reaching roughly 1,500 to 2,500 radiation resistance cuts environmental radiation (in nuke zones, for example) drastically. There is no hard cap, so more is always better.

In return, the radiation resistance of most non-power armor was cut by 45 to 65%, while each remaining point now counts for much more. Enemies and consumables were adjusted too. Ghoul players now convert 35% of incoming radiation into healing (previously 15%), RadShield is stronger but no longer stacks, and Rad-X and similar items were adjusted to the new system. If you play a radiation build, re-evaluate your gear. Ghoul basics are in our guide on how to become a ghoul.

New seasonal fish and the "Glass Ghost"

The Fallout 76 Infestations update expands fishing with four new seasonal fish, available from June 23, 2026 according to the release notes. There is one each for spring, summer, fall and winter, tied to season and region. They cannot be turned into Fish Bits and instead feed two new recipes. The quest line starts at Fisherman's Rest (a note from Captain Raymond).

The highlight for collectors is the rare local legend fish "Glass Ghost". You can only catch it in summer in the Glassed Cavern (Cranberry Bog). Catching it unlocks the Jellied Fish recipe (0.8 HP/s for 25 s plus 4 Intelligence for 1 hour, doubled for Carnivores). The second recipe, the Wasteland Fish Sandwich, gives 0.8 HP/s and +20% movement speed for one hour. Everything else about fishing is in our fishing guide.

Weapon and quality-of-life changes

  • Gamma Gun: now also deals energy damage on top of its radiation damage.
  • Light Machine Gun: reworked mods, many of them learnable by scrapping. The "Standard Muzzle" mod is now called "No Muzzle".
  • Crafting menu: ingredients are grouped more clearly, and confirmation prompts finally have a "don't ask again" option.

Next-gen console update

When the Infestations update shipped, the next-gen console update had been announced but was not out yet. Update: the native Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions have been available in the respective stores since September 15, 2026, with "The Slasher" update. All specs are in our next-gen update overview. The Infestations update also added, among other things, a new Deathclaw C.A.M.P. pet to the Atomic Shop.

FAQ

When was the Fallout 76 Infestations update released?

On June 2, 2026, together with Season 25.

What is the most important change?

Infestations: dynamic encounters with guaranteed 4-star legendaries and five exclusive new 4-star mods.

Do I need to adjust my radiation build?

Possibly. Radiation resistance is now more effective, but the resistance of many non-power armor pieces went down. Recheck your total resistance; from about 1,500 to 2,500, environmental radiation is cut heavily.

Checked against Fallout 76 as of June 2026 (Infestations update, released June 2, 2026). Values are based on the official release notes; Bethesda can adjust them via hotfix. Next-gen note added in October 2026, based on "The Slasher" update notes.
