Fallout 76 Daily Ops: Modes, Mutations, Tiers and Rewards

Fallout 76 Daily Ops are instanced missions for up to four players where the location, enemy group and enemy mutation change every day. Speed pays off: finish in under 16, 12 or 8 minutes to hit the Initiate, Paladin and Elder tiers. Since The Slasher update, 13 unique weapons also drop there as rare rewards.

This guide covers how to start Fallout 76 Daily Ops, how the two modes play out, which mutations you'll face and how much time you get per section if you're going for Elder. Names and mechanics are checked against Bethesda's English update notes.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ What Fallout 76 Daily Ops Are

Bethesda added Daily Ops with Update 22 on September 15, 2020. They aren't public events in the open world. Each one runs in its own instance. You can play solo or in a team of up to four, and you can repeat them as often as you like. Once a day the combination of mode, location, enemies and mutation rotates.

Don't mix them up with mutated events. Those are open-world public events like Uranium Fever that only carry an enemy mutation during announced event weeks. The mutations themselves come from Daily Ops, but rewards and structure are different.

๐Ÿ”“ How to Unlock and Start Daily Ops

There's no unlock quest. According to Bethesda, Update 22 added a World Activity tracker to the map screen. Pick the current operation there and join it. You don't need to travel to the location first. The community site Nuka Knights describes the same entry point on the left side of the map.

Bethesda recommends level 50 or higher. The announcement doesn't name a hard minimum level, and enemy scaling is meant to let lower-level characters help out. According to Nuka Knights, characters below level 50 get their own reward list with plans for weapons, armor, power armor and C.A.M.P. items.

The story comes from Vernon Dodge, a member of the original Brotherhood of Steel who hands out the missions over the radio. According to the Fandom wiki, his quest in Watoga, "Breaking Radio Silence", introduces Daily Ops, but it isn't required to play them.

โš™๏ธ The Two Daily Ops Modes

There are two game modes. You can see which one is running today before you join.

Uplink

The original mode from 2020. You secure a series of Uplinks to track down a group of especially tough creatures and take them out at the end. The default mutation here is always Piercing Gaze, which gives enemies greatly enhanced perception of players. According to Nuka Knights, that means you'll always be detected and stealth bonuses don't apply. Nuka Knights also says all players should stay near the Uplink so it charges faster.

Decryption

Added with the Locked & Loaded update in April 2021. You disable three Radio Interceptors for Vernon Dodge. The codes you need are carried by three enemy Code Carriers, which you have to find and kill. The enemy waves get tougher as the mission goes on, and a boss waits at the end. The default mutation is Savage Strike: enemy attacks ignore your armor resistances.

โฑ๏ธ Daily Ops Tiers: Initiate, Paladin, Elder

Every completed operation gives XP, currency and loot, as often as you want. On top of that, the game tracks your time. According to Bethesda, you can earn each tier once per day. Higher tiers improve your odds at the special rewards.

TierTime limitTime per section in Decryption
Initiate16 minutes4:00 minutes
Paladin12 minutes3:00 minutes
Elder8 minutes2:00 minutes

The last column is our own math. Decryption has four combat sections: three Code Carriers and the boss. For Elder that leaves you about 2 minutes per section on average, including running around and the Interceptors.

According to the Fandom wiki, a higher tier also gives you the rewards of the lower tiers if you haven't earned them yet that day. If you get Elder on your first run, all three tiers count.

๐Ÿงฌ Enemy Mutations in Fallout 76 Daily Ops

Besides the mode's default mutation, every operation carries a random extra mutation. Names and effects come from Bethesda's update notes for Update 22 (2020), Locked & Loaded (2021) and Mutation Invasion (2023).

MutationEffectSince
Piercing GazeEnemies have greatly enhanced perception of players (always in Uplink)2020
Savage StrikeAttacks ignore armor resistances (always in Decryption)2021
VolatileEnemies explode on death2020
Active CamouflageEnemies are cloaked when not attacking2020
ResilientEnemies can only be killed by a melee attack2020
Freezing TouchEnemy attacks freeze players2020
Toxic BloodEnemies leave a poisonous hazard when they die2021
Group RegenerationEnemies heal other enemies near them2021
Swift FootedEnemies move faster2021
Reflective SkinEnemies periodically reflect some of the direct damage done to them2023

One thing stood out while cross-checking: the eight extra mutations in this table are exactly the eight that also show up in mutated events. Only the two default mutations are exclusive to Daily Ops. Nuka Knights also lists a mutation called Danger Cloud, which we couldn't find in any Bethesda source, so it's not in the table.

On announced dates, Nuka Knights and the Fandom wiki say operations run with two extra mutations at once, for example Freezing Touch plus Swift Footed. These are supposed to give double XP, double currency and double legendary modules. Our Bethesda sources don't confirm this.

๐Ÿš๏ธ Locations and Enemy Groups

The feature launched with four locations: The Burrows, The Burning Mine, Valley Galleria and Vault 94. In 2021, Vault 96, Watoga Raider Arena and West Tek Research Center joined the pool, followed in 2023 by Charleston Capitol Building, Garrahan Mining Headquarters and Morgantown High School. Nuka Knights now counts 15 locations, including some from The Pitt and Atlantic City.

For enemies, Bethesda confirms Super Mutants, Blood Eagles and Robots (2020), Scorched, Mothman Cultists and Mole Miners (2021), and Aliens (2023). The community wiki and Nuka Knights also list Communists, Fanatics and the Overgrown.

๐ŸŽ Daily Ops Rewards

According to Bethesda, every completion gives XP, currency and loot. Tier rewards raise your chance at special items. Back in 2020, Bethesda's example for a single Elder run was a large XP grant, two currency grants, two legendary items and a care package with ammo, first aid and explosives. Since legendary crafting was reworked, you get legendary modules instead of the old cores. Nuka Knights says 1 to 3 per Elder run.

The biggest change to Fallout 76 Daily Ops in 2026 came with The Slasher update (version 1.7.26.13, September 15, 2026). According to the patch notes, these 13 unique weapons are now rare rewards from Daily Ops:

  • Acceptable Overkill, The Commander's Charge, Crushing Blow
  • Kingfisher, Night Light, Salt of the Earth
  • The Action Hero, The Resolute Veteran, The Guarantee
  • The Quick Fix, The Old Guard, Mind Over Matter, The Farmhand

On top of that you can get the Fancy Pump Action Shotgun Paint and Fancy Single Action Revolver Paint recipes. The fixed effects of each unique are in our list of unique weapons. Earlier tier rewards, according to Bethesda, included the War Glaive melee weapon (2020) and Covert Scout Armor (2021).

How often you get a rare reward is community data. According to the Fandom wiki, the Elder tier has guaranteed a Daily Ops reward since 2021, and each rare item can drop once per day. Nuka Knights adds chances of 5 percent (Initiate) and 10 percent (Paladin). Bethesda hasn't published drop rates.

๐Ÿ•• When Fallout 76 Daily Ops Reset

Bethesda doesn't give a time for the daily rotation in our sources. The community doesn't agree either: Nuka Knights says noon New York time, the Fandom wiki says 1 pm ET. Converted to UTC:

PeriodNoon ET (Nuka Knights)1 pm ET (Fandom wiki)
Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 13, 2027 (EST, UTCโˆ’5)17:00 UTC18:00 UTC
From Mar 14, 2027 (EDT, UTCโˆ’4)16:00 UTC17:00 UTC

The safest bet is the in-game countdown. According to the Fandom wiki, the map has shown a timer to the next rotation since 2021.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for Fast Daily Ops Runs

  • Use a public team: at launch Bethesda added a dedicated Daily Ops team type that gives +25 to +100 percent bonus XP.
  • Check the mutation before you start: with Resilient you need a melee weapon on your favorites wheel, with Volatile you want distance. Backup weapon ideas are in our best builds guide.
  • Loot first, then close the report: according to Nuka Knights, closing the end-of-mission report ends the operation.
  • Armor over stealth: in Uplink you'll always be detected. Solid armor does more here than a stealth build.
