Fallout 76 Expeditions are repeatable away missions to The Pitt and Atlantic City that you launch by Vertibird from the Whitespring Refuge. You unlock them through the Responders questline at the Refuge, and after that all six missions stay open for good.
Each Expedition has three optional objectives, and those decide your haul: complete all three and you get up to 15 Stamps instead of three. This guide walks you through unlocking them, how a mission plays out, the full reward table and the route that gets you the most in the least time.
โ๏ธ What Fallout 76 Expeditions Are
Expeditions are instanced missions outside of Appalachia. You leave the open world by Vertibird and land in a closed-off area that only you and your team can enter. Bethesda introduced the system in September 2022 with the "Expeditions: The Pitt" update. Atlantic City followed later with "Atlantic City Boardwalk Paradise" and "Atlantic City America's Playground".
The technical difference from normal quests: the missions use a modular system. Bethesda calls them "randomized, repeatable" missions, and the individual sections are put together fresh each time you start. So you're not playing the same sequence six times, but the same story with changing steps in between.
- Group size: solo or in a team of up to four.
- Enemy level: scales with your level. Bethesda pitched them as end-game missions for prepared groups.
- Repeatability: unlimited. The original 24-hour timer was patched out.
- Progress: if you leave a running Expedition, your progress is saved for the next start.
๐ How to Unlock Fallout 76 Expeditions
Access runs exclusively through the Whitespring Refuge, the underground Responders base beneath The Whitespring Resort. Unlocking it is a questline Bethesda calls "Responders Reborn".
- Travel to The Whitespring Resort and enter the Whitespring Refuge.
- Talk to Orlando, the facility's contact. He starts the questline.
- Meet Skippy Roerich, the representative of the Union from The Pitt.
- Go to the pilot Lennox on the roof of the Whitespring. From here on, you can also start Expeditions straight from the map.
Bethesda doesn't set a hard level lock. Level 50 is often quoted as a guideline, but it's a recommendation, not a requirement. Realistically, what you need most is a build that can handle scaling enemies. Which cards work is covered in our Fallout 76 best builds guide.
Good to know for newer players: Atlantic City doesn't need a second unlock. Once the Responders questline is done, both destinations show up in the Expedition menu. On site, the local quest givers hand you the missions.
๐ All Six Expeditions at a Glance
| Expedition | Destination | Quest giver |
|---|---|---|
| Union Dues | The Pitt | Hex |
| From Ashes to Fire | The Pitt | Danilo |
| Poke the Beehive | The Pitt | the Union |
| Tax Evasion | Atlantic City | Billy Beltbuckles |
| The Most Sensational Game | Atlantic City | Veracio Cruz |
| The Human Condition | Atlantic City | The Family |
In The Pitt you work for the Union against the Fanatics and the Trogs. In Atlantic City you're caught between the mob family, known as The Family, and the Showmen who run the city's entertainment.
โจ Scoring: Three Optional Objectives Decide Everything
There's no medal or star rating like in other games. An Expedition's reward tier simply depends on how many of the three optional objectives your team completed along the way. In "Tax Evasion", for example, an NPC asks you to switch on the anti-fraud system in the basement and collect the winnings from five rigged machines. It takes a few minutes and multiplies your haul.
| Expedition | 0 objectives | 1 objective | 2 objectives | 3 objectives | Daily bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Union Dues | 1 | 2 | 5 | 8 | +8 |
| From Ashes to Fire | 2 | 3 | 6 | 9 | +8 |
| Tax Evasion | 3 | 5 | 10 | 15 | +5 |
| The Most Sensational Game | 3 | 5 | 10 | 15 | +5 |
| The Human Condition | 3 | 5 | 10 | 15 | +5 |
Values in Stamps, as documented on the community-run Fallout wiki. Bethesda doesn't publish these numbers itself. The wiki has no complete values for "Poke the Beehive", so that mission isn't in the table. One detail is unclear: the wiki lists a separate daily bonus for each mission, but its text says the bonus is awarded for the first Expedition of the day. It isn't clearly documented if you can collect it on every mission each day.
๐ฆ Rewards Beyond Stamps
Stamps are the main currency, but not the only thing you take home. A finished Expedition also drops:
- Legendary items: several per run depending on objectives completed, which you can scrip.
- Legendary modules: at least one per completion.
- Treasury Notes: the step before Gold Bullion, exchanged at the gold press.
- Legendary Scrip and XP.
- One unique plan per week from the reward pool, on top of whatever you buy with Stamps.
That makes Expeditions one of the broadest reward sources in the game: they feed your scrip stash, your module count and your Gold Bullion chain at the same time. If you're hunting specifically for 4-star gear, though, Infestations are the better choice, as our guide to 4-star mods from Infestations explains. Expeditions deliver volume, not guaranteed 4-star drops.
๐ฐ Spending Stamps: Giuseppe
The currency is called Stamps. You trade them in with Giuseppe, who stands in The Whitespring Resort behind the bar, next to Bubbles, in the room to the left behind the stage with the "ATLANTIC CITY" plaque. He only takes Stamps, not Caps. His stock includes:
| Item | Price in Stamps |
|---|---|
| Standard Civil Engineer armor mods | 20 |
| Advanced mods (such as BioCommMesh) | 40 |
| Civil Engineer Underarmor linings | 40 |
| Civil Engineer Underarmor (base) | 50 |
| Plan: Union Helmet | 120 |
| Plan: Civil Engineer Jet Pack Armor | 300 |
What that really costs: an Atlantic City run with all three objectives pays 15 Stamps, 20 if the daily bonus applies. For the Jet Pack at 300 Stamps, that's 20 runs without any bonus, fewer with it. The Union Helmet at 120 is yours after eight clean runs. Budget a bit over 15 minutes per run and the Jet Pack works out to roughly four to five hours of playtime. Not an afternoon project, but not a month-long grind either.
๐ง The Most Efficient Route
The reward table answers the route question on its own: Atlantic City pays clearly better. A clean Pitt Expedition brings 8 to 9 Stamps, a clean Atlantic City Expedition 15, about two thirds more for similar time. So the efficient loop looks like this:
- Run the Atlantic City missions first, each with all three optional objectives. That's 15 Stamps per run before any bonus.
- Then pick up the Pitt missions if their +8 bonus is still available to you that day. Union Dues and From Ashes to Fire pay 8 and 9 Stamps for a clean run.
- Then repeat Atlantic City. Without a bonus, a clean Atlantic City run is still the best rate per run at 15 Stamps.
Two habits save more time. First, join a public Expedition team. Four players clear the optional objectives in parallel while the rest push the main chain, and everyone still gets their own reward. Second, read the optional objectives as soon as you start, not at the end. They often sit in places you pass anyway, and running back for them later doubles your walking.
Since the instance cuts you off from the open world, don't try to combine Expeditions with other farming routes. Keep them separate.
๐ก Fallout 76 Expeditions FAQ
โ How do I unlock Fallout 76 Expeditions?
Through the "Responders Reborn" questline at the Whitespring Refuge. Talk to Orlando, meet Skippy Roerich and then the pilot Lennox on the roof of the Whitespring.
โ Does Atlantic City need its own unlock?
No. Once the Responders questline is done, The Pitt and Atlantic City both appear in the Expedition menu.
โ How often can I repeat an Expedition?
As often as you like. The old 24-hour timer was patched out. Only the daily bonus is limited to once a day.
โ What do the optional objectives actually give?
They are the real scoring. In Atlantic City, your haul goes from 3 Stamps with no objectives to 15 with all three, five times as much for a few extra minutes.
โ Where do I spend Stamps?
With Giuseppe in The Whitespring Resort, behind the bar next to Bubbles. He sells plans for Civil Engineer armor, Civil Engineer Underarmor and Union Power Armor.
โ Can I play Expeditions solo?
Yes. Enemies scale with your level, and every objective can be done alone. A team of four is just faster, not more rewarding per run.
๐ Summary and Status
Once unlocked, Fallout 76 Expeditions are one of the most reliable reward sources in the game: Stamps for exclusive plans, plus legendary modules, Treasury Notes and scrip in one run. The key rule is to take the three optional objectives with you. Skip them and you leave four fifths of the haul behind. If you want a real end-game challenge afterward, try the game's only raid, the Gleaming Depths.
Checked against Bethesda's official update notes for the Expeditions update, Bethesda's launch posts on the Expedition system and the community-run Fallout wiki for mission lists, reward values and Giuseppe's stock. Numbers from community sources are labeled as such and can be changed by Bethesda at any time.
Bethesda gives version numbers like 1.7.26.13 in its update notes, but no running patch numbers. Counts like "Patch 70" come from the community. According to the official patch notes, "The Slasher" update from September 15, 2026 also fixed an issue where Expeditions would accept throwables the objective didn't require. As of October 2026.
