Enshrouded Fishing: Rods, Bait and What Changed in 1.0

Since version 1.0, Enshrouded fishing comes down to bait: the bait decides which fish tier bites, not the body of water. According to Keen Games, every fish can be caught in every body of water as long as your bait and rod fit its tier.

This guide covers all five fishing rods and the bait tiers, sorts the 13 tiered fish into their tiers, names the two special fish and flags which info dates from before 1.0. On top of that, we work out how much stamina each rod upgrade adds. If you need one specific fish, pick the right bait instead of hunting for another lake.

🎣 What 1.0 changed about Enshrouded fishing

Fishing arrived with the "Wake of the Water" update. Back then, your catch depended on the spot: the English community wiki at enshrouded.wiki.gg describes that the tier of the water decided the fish, not the bait. Version 1.0, released on October 15, 2026, flips that around.

• Every fish everywhere: According to the changelog, all fish can be caught in every body of water. What matters is the right bait and a rod that can handle higher-tier fish.
• Bait sets the tier: Each bait mainly attracts fish of its own tier.
• Guaranteed tier on a bite: Keen writes about "improved fishing bait": if something bites, the fish is guaranteed to match the bait's tier. The changelog doesn't make clear whether that means all bait since 1.0 or a separate bait type.
• More rare and epic fish: Keen raised the chances for higher-quality fish.
• Junk and treasure: The ratio was rebalanced, especially at marked fishing spots, and the treasure pool now holds more interesting items.

Enshrouded fishing also gets small quality-of-life changes: auto-sort now keeps bait apart from arrows and spell charges, and fish recipes have more categories.

🪝 All five Enshrouded fishing rods

Rod names and values come from the English community wiki. Like the database enshrouded.th.gl we checked them against, the rod stats date from before 1.0. The changelog doesn't say whether Keen adjusted the rods for 1.0.

The Hunter hands out "Unknown Waters." The database lists "Lucky Catch" and "Nice Day For Fishing" in the Fisher's quest group, and "A Cursed Catch" under the Nomad Highlands.

🧮 Our math: how much stamina each rod adds

In Enshrouded fishing, the rod's stamina is your green bar in the minigame. From the simple to the excellent rod, it climbs from 30 to 55, an 83 percent increase. The biggest single jump already comes with the Cursed Fishing Rod: +10 points, or 33 percent. After that, each step only adds 5 points.

In practice: "A Cursed Catch" is the best first step. Since 1.0, your rod has to handle higher-tier fish, so a good rod is now a must for Enshrouded fishing, not a luxury. The changelog doesn't say which rod is enough for which fish tier. You'll have to test that in the game.

🪱 Bait and its tiers

According to the community wiki, Enshrouded fishing uses the bait tiers simple, common, uncommon, rare and epic. You craft Simple Fishing Bait by hand and all higher tiers at the Fisher. Their names are Simple, Common, Uncommon, Rare and Epic Fishing Bait. In the current wiki list, the epic bait shows up as Epic Fishing Bait I next to an Epic Fishing Bait II.

The wiki lists insects and frogs you collect as lures. It doesn't give exact recipes for the higher bait tiers, and the database also dates from before 1.0. That's why we leave out amounts here on purpose. You'll find them at the Fisher in the game.

🐟 All 15 fish: 13 by tier plus two special fish

The community wiki now lists 15 fish. 13 of them have a fixed tier, and two count as special fish: Cinderscale and Specklefin. According to the wiki, they only bite on special bait, namely Maggots and Epic Fishing Bait II. The wiki also notes that the old tier tables by region are no longer the current fish pools.

Three epic fish are crafting ingredients: according to the wiki, Yellowfin gives Fish Teeth, Thornridge gives Fish Bones and Shockfin gives an Electric Nerve. So if you need Fish Teeth or Fish Bones, just use epic bait since 1.0, wherever you are fishing in Enshrouded.

👢 Junk and treasure on your line

Not every bite during Enshrouded fishing is a fish. According to the community wiki, the junk pool depends on the bait. It holds remedies, rings, gems and potions. The wiki names items like Antidote, Bandage, the Exceptional Ring of Health and the Flask of the Fell. Wet Boots are their own category, and every rod has hidden values for that chance, per the wiki.

That list dates from before 1.0. For Enshrouded fishing in 1.0, Keen only writes in the changelog that junk and treasure were rebalanced and the treasure pool now has more interesting loot. The changelog doesn't say which items were added.

🔥 Using your catch: grill and dryer

For processing your Enshrouded fishing haul, the database lists two builds: the Seafood Grill and a fish dryer. You get the grill through the quest "Seafood Grill For The Farmer." According to the changelog, that quest only starts once you've reached Veilwater Basin since 1.0, not earlier.

Grilled fish and fish dishes like stews and soups turn into meals with buffs. Since 1.0, almost every dish can sit on a coaster or plate. Skewers and fish are among the exceptions, because according to Keen they simply didn't look good there. In return, fish trophies can now go on the floor too, which is handy for an angler's room in your base.

🎮 How the fishing minigame works

1. Equip bait and cast the rod with the left mouse button.
2. Wait until something bites.
3. For a fish, reel in and pull against its movement with A and D until its red bar is empty.
4. If your green bar runs out first, the fish gets away.
5. Junk and treasure don't need reeling in. You just land them.

These steps come from the community wiki. On controller, the triggers react at half press since 1.0, according to the changelog, but for Enshrouded fishing the trigger point sits closer to full press on purpose.

• Bait for the job: For recipes that need epic fish, use epic bait, no matter which lake.
• Use marked fishing spots: Keen rebalanced the junk and treasure chances there.
• Upgrade your rod early: The Cursed Fishing Rod gives the biggest stamina jump.
• Check co-op permissions: Since 1.0, players without enough permissions can't throw fish into your base anymore.

Checked against Enshrouded 1.0 with Patch #1 (1.0.1.0) from November 2, 2026, as of November 2026. Patch #1 doesn't change fishing. It only fixes an issue where fish prevented other animals from reproducing. All fishing changes come from the official Keen Games changelog for version 1.0.0.0.
