You build a Conan Exiles golem at two stations: the Golem Workbench crafts the six body parts, and the Guardian Assembly Station puts them together into a finished guardian. Master Carver Huang at Mek-kamoses' spire unlocks both, and everything is paid for in Blood Crystals.
Patch 2.1.0 from August 18, 2026 fixed the bug that made crafted golems invincible. In exchange, the same patch notes listed a new known issue that undermined the most important golem rule until patch 3.0.0 fixed it. Patch 3.0.0 also lists a new golem bug for PvP servers.
โ๏ธ Conan Exiles golem: unlocking the workbench and the assembly station
You don't start in the knowledge tree, you start with an NPC. Master Carver Huang stands near Mek-kamoses' spire in the Exiled Lands, and at the Camp of the Castaways on the Isle of Siptah. Funcom's own guide puts it this way: "Once you have spoken to Huang, you will be able to craft the Golem Workbench and the Guardian Assembly Station." A few individual part recipes are learned with knowledge points.
You need both stations. The numbers come from the recipe database for the current Enhanced build:

The assembly station has exactly one recipe: Animate Guardian, with a 15-second craft time. Put a head, a torso, two arms and two legs into the slots, hit craft, and your guardian is done. The Golem Workbench, on the other hand, lists 67 recipes, because every material tier brings its own parts plus coating and weapon variants.
๐ฉธ Blood Crystals, not "golem cores"
Some guides talk about "golem cores". In the sources we checked, no such item exists in Conan Exiles. The currency of the whole system is Blood Crystals. Funcom describes them as the hardened blood of the fallen giant-kings that seeped into the earth after their death and crystallized. The developer post is clear on this: "All golem parts, even those of stone, require some blood crystals to craft."
Blood Crystals come from new creatures that carry the crystal visibly in their chest. The wiki lists the Blood Crystal Rocknose and Blood Crystal golems as separate enemy types. Community data: fan sites count around 17 Rocknose and 14 golem spawn points in the Exiled Lands, plus a search spell from the upgraded Tome of Kurak. These numbers are not officially confirmed. ๐ Material tiers: Stone, Iron, Iron Slag and Crystalline
You'll often read about stone, iron and steel golems. There is no steel tier. A Conan Exiles golem comes in four documented variants: Stone Guardian, Iron Guardian, Iron Slag Guardian and Crystalline Guardian. Steel still matters, but as an ingredient: the weapon arms of the Iron tier need steel weapons.
For complete golems, that adds up to the totals below. They are calculated from the individual recipes. One golem is one head, one torso, two legs and two arms:

๐ก The data point few guides mention: Master Carver Huang only sells one Crystalline part at a time, for 200 Blood Crystals, and his stock rotates every two hours.
A full Crystalline Guardian therefore costs 1,200 Blood Crystals and, depending on the rotation, many hours of waiting until the right parts are on offer. According to community guides, the faster route is the boss Kurak in his lair, who is said to drop the parts with a high chance; there are no official drop rates. You can mix all four tiers freely. A Crystalline torso on stone legs is completely fine.
๐งฑ The six body parts and what they do
Not every part is required. Funcom says so directly: "A headless, armless golem is completely possible, although significantly less useful in battle." Missing parts cost combat power but don't block assembly. These are the Stone tier recipes:

Heads, torsos and legs can also get coatings. Tar costs 40 per part and makes the golem leave flammable puddles. Brimstone costs 100 per part and creates choking gas clouds. The odd one is the Explosive Guardian Head: the same stone head, but with an Explosive Jar instead of Iron Reinforcement.

Weapons aren't equipped. They are built into the arm when you craft it, which is one reason a Conan Exiles golem plays differently from a thrall. The choice also decides what the golem gathers. Funcom puts it like this: "equip it with the scythe or sickle to make it efficient at gathering plants, or a maul for minerals."

๐บ๏ธ Controlling your golem
Out of the box, the construct acts like a loyal companion: "By default, your golem will follow and defend you." Gathering is where it gets interesting. You don't pick a resource from a menu. You put one unit of that resource into the golem's inventory. The golem then walks off and harvests exactly that material until its inventory is full. A Conan Exiles golem with a sickle arm and one plant fiber in its belly becomes an automatic plant farm.
How many can fight at once is an Authority question: "Only one golem can fight for you at a time (or two with the authority perk)." You can own more golems and assign them to other jobs, but only the active one fights. The perk details are in our Authority build and the attributes guide.

The key sentence comes from Funcom itself: "Golems cannot be healed, and damage they take over time will eventually and irreversibly break it down." That makes golems a consumable and thralls an investment. If you want maximum combat power, the best combat thralls still serve you better. If you want something that farms on the side, build the golem.
โจ What patches 2.0.0 to 3.0.0 changed for golems in Conan Exiles
None of the Enhanced patches changed the recipes or materials. Behavior is a different story. Patch 2.0.0 from July 21, 2026 listed under known issues: "Some Golems may become invincible after multiple updates." Patch 2.1.0 from August 18, 2026 checked it off under fixes: "Fixed crafted golems becoming invincible after a series of updates."
The more interesting entry was the new known issue in that same patch: "Golems regain all lost health on a server restart." For about seven weeks, a simple server restart undid the core design rule that golems can't be healed. Patch 3.0.0 from October 6, 2026 closed that gap: "Fixed some golems healing to full health after a server restart." Note the wording "some golems": the patch notes don't say whether every case is covered.
The same patch adds another known issue: golems in guard mode take no damage on PvP servers that have building damage turned off. Hotfix 3.0.1 from October 8 does not list a fix for it.
A note for console players: all of these are Enhanced updates, and Enhanced is PC only so far. On console, the old build and the old golem behavior stay in place.

How much does a complete golem cost?
A Stone Guardian with all six parts costs 1,400 Stone, 350 Stone Consolidant, 55 Iron Reinforcement and 30 Blood Crystals in total. An Iron Guardian needs 1,500 Iron Bar, 55 Steel Reinforcement, 175 Alchemical Base and 120 Blood Crystals.
Where do I unlock golem crafting?
From Master Carver Huang near Mek-kamoses' spire in the Exiled Lands, or at the Camp of the Castaways on Siptah. Talking to him unlocks the Golem Workbench and the Guardian Assembly Station. A few part recipes are learned with knowledge points.
Can I heal or repair my golem?
No. Damage is permanent, and the golem breaks down over time. Between patch 2.1.0 and patch 3.0.0, a bug let golems regain full health on a server restart. Patch 3.0.0 from October 6, 2026 lists it as fixed for "some golems".
How many golems can I use at once?
One can fight, two with the right Authority perk. You can own more and give them other jobs.
How do I make my golem gather resources?
Put one unit of the resource you want into its inventory. It then harvests that material, efficiently with a sickle or scythe arm for plants and with a maul arm for minerals.
Are golems on console too?
Yes. The golem system came with Age of Sorcery Chapter 3 and exists on all platforms. The Enhanced patches, including the golem fix, don't reach consoles.

Checked against Funcom's official developer post on golem shaping, the patch notes for 2.0.0 (July 21, 2026), 2.1.0 (August 18, 2026) and 3.0.0 (October 6, 2026), the Conan Exiles Wiki on Fandom (it calls itself the "Official Conan Exiles Wiki" and is linked from Funcom's site conanexiles.com, but by its own description it is written by players), and the recipe database conanexiles.gaming.tools, which is built from game data. The spawn point counts for Blood Crystal creatures, the search spell trick, Huang's Crystalline offer (200 Blood Crystals, rotating every two hours) and Kurak's Crystalline part drops are community data and not officially confirmed. Total costs per golem are calculated from the individual recipes.
