- ๐น Is the archer build worth it?
The best Conan Exiles archer build runs Agility 20 with the Dead Shot perk, plus Vitality 15, Grit 15 and Expertise 10. That turns the bow from a backup weapon into a strong ranged weapon in its own right.
Our Conan Exiles attributes guide explains the whole attribute system. This guide zooms in on one build: the pure ranged fighter. Agility is the only attribute line with a perk made for arrows and throwing weapons. It's called Dead Shot.
Everything here is built around that perk. You get the stat spread, bow and arrow choices, and a trick for knocking out thralls without stepping into melee range. Perk effects follow Funcom's official description of the Age of Sorcery attribute rework, updated for the current Enhanced (UE5) version, where Funcom swapped two perks between Agility and Grit.
๐ฏ Why Agility is the underrated ranged stat
Agility scales all "deft" weapons. That includes bows as well as daggers, short swords and throwing weapons. Every point you put in raises your damage with those weapons and also adds stamina. Most builds treat Agility as a melee stat for dagger assassins and keep the bow as a backup. This guide fills that gap with a stat spread that commits to ranged combat.
โ๏ธ Conan Exiles archer build stat spread: 20 / 15 / 15 / 10
Agility 20 / Vitality 15 / Grit 15 / Expertise 10
With 60 points in total, you get one attribute maxed plus two solid secondary lines. Agility at 20 gives you full ranged damage and both choice perks along the way. Vitality at 15 gives you enough health to survive ranged mistakes.
Grit at 15 fills up your stamina so you can sprint, dodge and reposition longer, and it unlocks Quickfooted. Expertise at 10 gives you carry weight for arrow supplies. For an archer hauling several stacks of different arrow types, that's not a luxury. It's a requirement.
๐น The Agility perks for archers in detail
This is the core of the build. The table shows what each milestone does in Enhanced. Funcom's official description gives no percentages, so the numbers in the table are community data and aren't officially confirmed.
| Points | Perk | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Backstab | +15% damage when attacking from behind |
| 10 (choice) | Dead Shot | Arrows and throwing weapons fly farther and deal more damage at range |
| 10 (choice) | Precision Strike | +10% armor penetration at light or medium encumbrance |
| 15 | Defensive Posture | 15% less damage taken while blocking or attacking (moved here from Grit in Enhanced) |
| 20 (choice) | Rolling Thrust | Your next attack after a dodge costs no stamina and gets extra penetration (25% according to community data) |
| 20 (choice) | Extended Leap | A second jump in mid-air (double jump) |
For a pure archer the choice is clear: Dead Shot at 10 points. Precision Strike only pays off if you mostly fight in melee with light weapons. As an archer you'd be giving up the one perk that defines your role. At 20 points, Rolling Thrust is the better pick for hit-and-run play. You shoot, dodge a counterattack, and your next hit lands with bonus penetration.
๐ก๏ธ Grit as the second pillar: stamina for kiting
An archer lives by keeping distance, not by blocking. Grit noticeably raises your stamina pool and armor efficiency. That matters when you're constantly backing off between shots or circling enemies.
At 10 points in Grit you choose between better stamina regeneration and an armor bonus tied to your current stamina. For kiting, stamina regeneration is the more consistent pick. It lets you stay at range longer instead of stopping to catch your breath.
At 15 points you get Quickfooted: jogging, sprinting, climbing, swimming and jumping get faster and cost less stamina. In Enhanced this perk moved from Agility to Grit, and for a kiting archer it's one of the best perks in the whole build.
๐ฏ Bow choice: from wood to endgame
The early bows in Conan Exiles come from branches and basic materials. They're enough for the first levels. In the mid game, switch to stronger crafted bows as soon as you've unlocked the recipes. In the endgame, bosses and dungeon loot give you legendary bows with much higher base damage. Whatever bow you use, Agility scales its damage. Our best weapons tier list shows where bows rank against everything else.
๐ฆ Arrow types and when you actually need them
A good archer doesn't carry just one arrow type. These cover the key situations.
| Arrow type | Use |
|---|---|
| Standard and iron arrows | Base damage for normal fights and hunting |
| Blunted Arrow | Deals concussive damage instead of health damage, your tool for knockouts at range |
| Fire arrows | Set targets and surroundings on fire, useful against groups |
| Poison arrows | Stack a poison effect, good against single targets with high health |
| Explosive arrows | Area damage, especially against groups or in sieges |
๐ก The underrated trick: knocking out thralls from range
Blunted Arrows were originally designed to stun prey instead of killing it, and that's exactly what you exploit as an archer. You don't walk into a camp with a Truncheon. You wear down your target from a safe distance with Blunted Arrows, then tie it up. For solo players at well-guarded camps, it's the safest way to capture high-value thralls. More on capturing and using them in our thralls guide, and which ones are worth the effort in our list of the best thralls.
๐บ๏ธ Two playstyles: PvE solo kiting and PvP hit-and-run
PvE solo: Keep enemies at bay with Backstab openers and Dead Shot damage at range. Use Rolling Thrust to follow up right after a dodge. Against dungeon bosses, switch between standard and elemental arrows depending on the phase. The extra stamina from Grit keeps you mobile the whole time.
PvP: Archers rarely win an open brawl. They do dominate sieges from walls and towers, and skirmishes where they can fall back. Dead Shot keeps your damage from dropping off at range, an advantage pure melee builds don't have.
๐งฅ Gear: stay light, keep your distance
Heavy armor doesn't fit an archer build. Since Agility and Grit are your core stats, light to medium armor makes sense. It keeps your encumbrance in the green and is what makes Precision Strike work at all, if you take it anyway.
Dodge rolls are also faster in light armor, and for a kiting build that decides between life and death. Pair it with a second weapon slot for a dagger or short sword in case an enemy gets too close. Agility scales both weapon types equally.
๐ Resetting your attributes
Coming from a melee character? A Potion of Bestial Memory from the Alchemist's Bench resets all your attribute points. You can redistribute them for this build without making a new character. According to the community wiki, the Yellow Lotus Potion also resets your attributes, but it wipes your knowledge points at the same time, so you'd have to relearn your recipes. If you'd rather go the other way, our Conan Exiles strength build is the melee counterpart.

๐น Is the archer build worth it?
The Conan Exiles archer build is more than a backup bow in a melee fighter's bag. Agility 20, Dead Shot as the core perk and Grit as your stamina backbone give you a standalone playstyle. It works in solo PvE and in sieges. And it comes with a ranged knockout trick for thralls that few other builds offer.
