Conan Exiles Best Armor 2026: Top Sets for Light, Medium and Heavy

There's no single answer to the Conan Exiles best armor question in 2026. It depends on weight class, playstyle and what you want to do. This guide sorts the strongest sets into light, medium and heavy and shows armor values, attribute bonuses and where to craft or find them.

The values were compiled during the Age of Heroes era, before the switch to Conan Exiles Enhanced. Set names and sources still match, but balance patches can shift individual numbers, so check the tooltip in your client.

⚔️ How armor works in Conan Exiles

Before you chase big numbers, look at the mechanic. Armor doesn't reduce damage linearly. It follows a formula with diminishing returns. The key rule of thumb according to the wiki: every +5 armor equals roughly +1% effective health. That gives you these thresholds:

That's the data point that should drive every gear decision. Going from 1,300 to 1,500 armor gives you far less in percentage terms than the numbers suggest, because you're already on the flat part of the curve. Set bonuses and damage modifiers are often worth more than the last few hundred armor points.

Armor penetration also works against you: it lowers the target's effective armor, so part of your reduction gets ignored. High values alone won't protect you if the enemy penetrates heavily.

Weight class also affects stamina regeneration: light sets 100%, medium 90%, heavy 85%. If you dodge a lot and chain combos, heavy sets cost you noticeable stamina.

🪶 Best light armor

Light sets are the pick for agility builds, dodging and fast attacks. Solid craftable options:

• Khari Overseer set: armor about 80, bonuses +25 stamina, +9% strength weapon damage, +6 heat and cold resistance. Crafted at an Improved Armorer's Bench from Perfected Light Padding and Khari Steel.
• Black Corsair set (epic variant): armor about 80, bonuses +30% agility weapon damage, +5 heat and +15 cold resistance. Ingredients include Perfected Light Padding, Feline Pelt and Ebony Silk.

For short fights there's also the Abyssal set, summoned at the Circle of Power. It has a very high armor value (about 1,000) and massive bonuses (including +50% strength and agility weapon damage and +120 health), but it decays after 60 minutes by default. Kills refill the timer, and the set vanishes instantly when you die. It's a tool for boss runs, not an everyday set.

🛡️ Best medium armor

Medium sets are the all-rounders: good protection with acceptable stamina. Two candidates stand out:

• Pride of Aesir: armor about 420, very broad bonuses: +40 health, +10 stamina, +30 carry capacity, +8% follower damage, +10% concussive damage plus heat and cold resistance. Ingredients include Perfected Medium Padding, Star Metal Bar, Black Ice and Alchemical Base.
• Sobek's armor set: armor about 578, bonus +200 health. It isn't crafted but looted: it drops from Aridis, Chosen of Sobek in Xalthar's Refuge.

If you don't want to choose between the two, mix pieces. The +200 health bonus of Sobek's set is tied to the full set, while individual Pride of Aesir pieces add carry capacity and utility.

⚒️ Best heavy armor

Heavy sets give the highest armor values and are the first choice for PvE melee and tanks. The relevant sets:

Godbreaker is considered one of the strongest full sets. It's crafted from rusted armor pieces, Dragonpowder, Alchemical Base and Armor Scraps, among other things. The Arena Champion set needs 20x Armor Scraps, Perfected Heavy Padding and 20x Layered Fur per piece. The Dragonbone set is an epic knowledge unlock and is also crafted at the Improved Armorer's Bench. Many of these epic recipes also eat Hardened Leather, so plan that chain early.

🔗 Mixed sets for maximum damage

Experienced players combine single pieces to get around full-set requirements and stack damage. One documented high-damage combination reaches about 1,279 armor with +21% strength weapon damage: Executioner's Hood, Voidforged Dragon Ribs, Godbreaker Grips, Champion's Leggings and Hyperborean Slaver Boots. Mixes like this are fiddly to put together, but in PvE they beat a pure full set.

The top sets share recurring ingredients: Star Metal, Black Ice, Alchemical Base, Dragonpowder and perfected padding. If you farm these reliably, every weight class stays open to you. There's no universal best. For protection, heavy armor like Godbreaker (about 1,320) leads, for mobility the light sets. In the end the best choice is the set whose bonuses fit your build.

Is a high armor value even worth it?

Only up to a point. Because of diminishing returns (5 points ≈ 1% effective HP), set bonuses beyond about 1,500 armor often give you more than extra armor.

Did Age of Heroes or Enhanced change the armor sets?

The Age of Heroes update mainly brought companions and living settlements, without a documented armor overhaul. Conan Exiles Enhanced moved the game to Unreal Engine 5 on May 5, 2026.
