Conan Exiles Anvil Keeper Won't Come Down: Fixing the Cyclopean Halls Boss (2026)

If the Conan Exiles Anvil Keeper in the Cyclopean Halls won't come down or doesn't appear at all, the cause is almost always an outdated game version. Hotfix 2.0.2 from July 28, 2026 fixed exactly these two bugs: The Anvil Keeper could get stuck in the floor, and in single player and co-op the bosses sometimes didn't spawn. So first check whether you are on 2.0.2 or later. On servers, the operator has to update; your own client isn't enough there.

This is the troubleshooting article for the dungeon. It helps when the boss won't come down. The route there, the order of the rooms and what the boss can do are covered in our Cyclopean Halls guide.

๐ŸŽฏ Conan Exiles Anvil Keeper won't come down: step 1 is checking your version

Before you try anything else, find out which version you are on. That decides whether you have a solved problem or an open one.

Where you playHow to find the version
Main menuThe version number is shown on the title screen, usually in a corner
SteamRight-click Conan Exiles, Properties, Updates. There you can see whether an update is pending
Server browserServers whose build doesn't match your client aren't shown as joinable
Private or rented serverAsk the operator or check the host's panel for the running build

The boss fixes are in Hotfix 2.0.2 from July 28, 2026. Anything older still has the boss bugs. As of October 2026 the live version is Patch 3.0.0 from October 6, 2026 with Hotfix 3.0.1 from October 8, 2026. If you play on that version, you have had the 2.0.2 fixes for a long time.

โš’๏ธ Step 2: you are below 2.0.2, here is how to update

In single player and co-op, updating your client is enough. Steam usually downloads it automatically when you start the game. If not, force it under Properties and Updates or by verifying the game files.

On a server it works differently, and this is where most people get stuck:

  • Official servers are updated by Funcom. All you can do is wait and keep your client current.
  • Rented servers are updated by the operator. With most hosts that is a button in the panel. If you aren't the admin yourself, there's no way around contacting the operator.
  • Self-hosted servers need an update through SteamCMD. Only then do the 2.0.2 fixes apply, no matter how current your client is.

The key point: the boss fixes are server-side. A current client on an old server does nothing for you. If a whole clan reports the Anvil Keeper hanging, the server is the first suspect.

โš ๏ธ Step 3: the boss still bugs out on 2.0.2

Even after the hotfix there are still reports of the boss fight getting blocked. The following points are community reports from the Funcom forums, not officially confirmed. The 2.1.0 patch notes don't name another explicit Anvil Keeper fix, but they do list several collision fixes in the dungeon. What players reported:

  • The boss won't come down from its position. Affected players describe leaving the room, walking back a bit and re-entering, or restarting the dungeon entirely. On a server, a server restart reportedly helps too, because it resets the encounter. Since Patch 2.1.0, doors lock you in during boss encounters according to the patch notes; whether the leave-the-room workaround still works is unclear.
  • A stun that doesn't wear off. One player describes an attack from the final boss that stuns briefly but sometimes doesn't release, leaving the character unable to move. His workaround: log out and back in. That is a single report, not a confirmed bug.
  • Thralls die in the boss room. Several players describe the last boss as a clear difficulty spike compared to the rest of the dungeon, where followers get torn apart. If you go in with a weak follower, you are effectively fighting alone. A look at our list of the best thralls is worth it before your next attempt.

A note on the follower tab: since Patch 2.0.0, thralls show the status "Dying" there. That is an intended display, not a bug. It tells you a follower is in serious trouble.

๐Ÿ“ฆ The second pain point in the same dungeon: Legendary Fragments

Once you finally beat the boss, the next annoyance was waiting. After the release of 2.0.0, complaints piled up that the Legendary Fragment yield was out of proportion to the effort. One player wrote in the official discussion thread that instead of useful rewards he had collected 37 Advanced Weapon Damage Kits.

Hotfix 2.0.2 responded to that: the drop chances for Legendary Fragments and armor from the Cyclopean Halls bosses were raised. That is noted officially in the patch notes.

DateVersionWhat changed for the Cyclopean Halls

July 23, 20262.0.1Encumbrance rollback, decay timer UI, no boss change
July 28, 20262.0.2Anvil Keeper no longer stuck in the floor, bosses spawn in single player and co-op, higher fragment and armor drops
August 11, 20262.1.0 (Public Beta)Test phase on the Public Beta Client
August 18, 20262.1.0 (live)Better level streaming in the Cyclopean Halls, lock-in doors for boss encounters, collision fixes in the dungeon
October 6 / October 8, 20263.0.0 / 3.0.1Live version in October 2026 (Legacy of the Giant-Kings part two); includes all fixes above

๐Ÿ’ก What the fragments really cost you

Do the math on a dungeon run before you get annoyed about the loot. A run costs you the trip to the Unnamed City, repair materials for your gear, food and bandages, plus the risk of losing a thrall you leveled up. If you only want fragments, it is fair to ask whether the run beats other sources.

What the fragments are good for and how many a repair takes is covered in the guide to repairing legendary weapons. And if you haven't cleared the surface of the region yet, the Unnamed City guide covers the bosses and locations above the dungeon.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ What 2.1.0 brought for the dungeon

Patch 2.1.0 has been live since August 18, 2026. According to the patch notes, it improves level streaming in the Cyclopean Halls, locks you in with doors during boss encounters and fixes several collision issues in the dungeon, plus general server optimizations. It doesn't name an explicit Anvil Keeper fix. As of October 2026, Patch 3.0.0 with Hotfix 3.0.1 is live.

โ“ FAQ

Why won't the boss in the Cyclopean Halls come down?

In versions before 2.0.2, The Anvil Keeper could get stuck in the floor. Hotfix 2.0.2 from July 28, 2026 fixed that. Check your version first.

The Anvil Keeper doesn't spawn in my single player game. What now?

That was a known bug: bosses didn't spawn in single player and co-op. It was also fixed in 2.0.2. Update your game.

I'm on 2.0.2 and the boss still hangs. Is there a fix?

Funcom doesn't name another explicit fix, but 2.1.0 brought collision fixes in the dungeon. According to community reports, re-entering the boss room or restarting the server helped. These workarounds aren't confirmed by Funcom, and since 2.1.0 doors lock you in during boss encounters.

Is updating my client enough?

Only in single player and co-op. On a server the fixes have to be installed server-side, and that is the operator's job.

Did the Legendary Fragment drop rate change?

Yes. With 2.0.2, the drop chances for Legendary Fragments and armor from the Cyclopean Halls bosses went up.

Does Patch 2.1.0 fix the boss bug?

2.1.0 (live since August 18, 2026) doesn't name an explicit Anvil Keeper fix, but it brings better level streaming, collision fixes and lock-in doors for boss encounters in the dungeon.

Checked against the official Funcom patch notes for Patch 2.0.0, the July hotfixes 2.0.1 and 2.0.2, the Public Beta Client 2.1.0 notes, the live 2.1.0 notes from August 18, 2026 and the official Patch 2.0.0 discussion megathread, as of October 2026 (Patch 3.0.0 with Hotfix 3.0.1). Points marked as community reports come from that forum thread and are not confirmed by Funcom.
