The Planet Crafter PS5: Price, Co-op, Crossplay and Is It Worth Buying? (2026)

The Planet Crafter has been out on PS5 since July 21, 2026 and costs $23.99 in the US PlayStation Store (checked October 8, 2026). For that you get the full base game, the free moon Skeo since the September 1 update, and online co-op for up to eight players. There's still no crossplay with PC or Xbox.

This guide answers the questions that actually matter before you buy: what each edition costs, what's included, what's missing, how the game runs on console and who the Planet Crafter PS5 version is for.

๐Ÿ’ฐ What The Planet Crafter costs on PS5

The PlayStation Store offers two editions. Both prices are from the US store, checked on October 8, 2026. Prices change, so check them yourself before buying.

EditionPrice (US)Content
Standard$23.99Base game
Deluxe$37.99Base game plus the two paid expansions Humble and Toxicity
Xbox Series X|S$23.99 / $37.99same content, also included with Game Pass

The gap between Standard and Deluxe is $14. That's the real buying decision: if you just want to terraform, the Standard edition covers everything. The two expansions are standalone extras and not needed to get started. On Xbox, they're also sold separately at $7.99 (Planet Humble) and $9.99 (Toxicity).

One cost trap people miss on PS5: online co-op requires PlayStation Plus. The store page says so directly. Solo play works without a subscription, but for co-op terraforming you pay the subscription on top. On Xbox, the game is included with Game Pass Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass, so if you already have one of those, you pay nothing extra.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What's included and what isn't

The console version of The Planet Crafter isn't a stripped-down port. It launched on the state of the PC main branch: version 2.0 from April 6, 2026, including the follow-up fixes up to v2.008 from April 29, 2026. That means the full open world, all terraformation stages, complete base building and the content from the free updates of past years, including the Moons Update from May 2025.

Since September 1, 2026, the free moon Skeo is part of the console version too. Miju Games shipped update v2.102 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and GOG on the same day. How to get there is in our guide to Planet Crafter Skeo.

Not included in the Standard edition are the two paid expansions Planet Humble (October 2024) and Toxicity (November 2025). You can buy them separately or get them straight away with the Deluxe edition.

๐ŸŽฎ How The Planet Crafter runs on PS5

Honesty matters more than a nice number here: Miju Games gives no resolution or frame rate targets for the console version, and there's no technical analysis from a major outlet. If you're looking for solid numbers on graphics modes or frame times, you won't find them right now, not even on the store pages.

What exists are reviews from the first weeks, and they're solid rather than spectacular: Xbox Achievements gave it 7 out of 10, the German magazine Games-Mag 8.0 out of 10. Both praise the same thing: the relaxed loop of gathering, building and watching the planet turn green. A broad critic base for the console version doesn't exist yet.

On patches: the September 1 update v2.102 reached consoles at the same time as Steam, so the PS5 version isn't stuck on its launch build. Miju Games still doesn't publish separate console patch notes. The public changelogs are the Steam announcements.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Co-op: up to eight players on PS5

Multiplayer is the reason many people pick the PS5 version in the first place. Terraforming isn't a competition: every heater, every Vegetube and every drill adds to the same Terraformation Index. Eight people get through the stages a lot faster than you alone.

PC (Steam / GOG)up to 10figure from the 1.0 release in April 2024

A detail most articles miss: the console versions cap at eight players, while the PC version was documented with ten at the 1.0 release. Miju Games has never officially explained the difference. On PS5, go with the eight from the store listing and plan your group around it.

๐Ÿšซ Crossplay: still missing more than two months after launch

This is the biggest letdown for mixed friend groups, and the point where most bad purchases happen. There's no crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series and Steam. It wasn't there at launch on July 21, and as of October 8, 2026 nothing has changed. Miju Games has published no date, no roadmap entry and no promise that crossplay is coming at all.

Just as important: there's no cross-platform save transfer. Your PC save doesn't move to the PS5. If you switch platforms, you start from zero.

One exception few people know about: Xbox Series X|S and the PC version from the Microsoft Store or PC Game Pass count as one platform. The Xbox Store explicitly lists Xbox cross-platform co-op and Xbox Play Anywhere. A mixed Xbox/PC group just needs everyone on the Xbox side. For PS5 players that doesn't help: PlayStation stays on its own. The full platform matrix is in our article on Planet Crafter crossplay.

The practical takeaway: agree on one platform before you buy. Switching later costs you all your progress.

๐Ÿ›’ Is The Planet Crafter on PS5 worth buying?

For $23.99 you get a finished, repeatedly updated game instead of an early access promise. Miju Games reported more than two million copies sold in June 2026, and on Steam the game holds an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating at around 95 percent positive reviews. Still, it's not for everyone.

Buy it if: you like building and automation games, want survival without combat or time pressure, enjoy working on the same base over many evenings, or have regular co-op partners on the same console.

Skip it if: your co-op group is split across PS5, Xbox and Steam, you expect enemies, combat or a narrated campaign, or you care about a documented performance mode. That's still not specified.

๐ŸŒฑ The basics for newcomers

Unlike most survival games, The Planet Crafter has zero combat. You're dropped on a hostile planet and make it livable step by step: produce oxygen, build pressure, raise the temperature, melt the ice caps until plants and later animals appear. Your machines keep running as long as they have power.

The full start with all terraformation stages is in our Planet Crafter beginner's guide. Where you put your first base decides a lot of your walking routes, so also check the best base locations.

๐ŸŽฏ PS5 or Xbox Series: which is the better pick?

Gameplay-wise, the two console versions of The Planet Crafter are the same. Both launched on the same day with the same features and content. Three plain points decide it:

  • Subscription costs: on Xbox, the game is included with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. On PS5 you pay $23.99 and need PlayStation Plus for co-op on top.
  • Group: since there's no crossplay, it all comes down to where your friends play.
  • PC combo: only the Xbox ecosystem lets you mix console and PC. If your group is Xbox plus PC, that's the better home.
