Dune Awakening trainers unlock the skill trees of the other classes, and each of them stands at a fixed spot on Arrakis. Every class has a basic trainer out in the open world and an advanced trainer in Arrakeen or Harko Village. Only the Planetologist has a single contact. Here are all nine Dune Awakening trainers with their locations and the contract that starts each line.
Each trainer is reached through their own contract chain. Once you understand the system, you can mix five schools into a hybrid build instead of sticking with your starting class.
๐ซ How the class system works in Dune Awakening
At character creation you pick a starting class, and you can't change it later. The choices are Swordmaster, Mentat, Bene Gesserit and Trooper. According to press coverage, the Planetologist can't be picked at the start; you unlock it only through its trainer.
The other schools open up as you play. Each school has several skill trees of its own, and community guides count twelve extra trees you reach through the trainers. You talk to the basic trainer of a class and finish their entry contract. The advanced trainer of the same class then hands out further contracts that earn you more points for that school.
The database dune.gaming.tools lists these characters with their titles: Trooper Trainer, Mentat Trainer, Swordmaster Trainer, Bene Gesserit Trainer and Planetologist Trainer. The combat schools are a different system from the five specialization paths that open with the Landsraad; those are explained in the specializations guide.
๐บ๏ธ All Dune Awakening trainers at a glance
Names come from dune.gaming.tools (game data, version 1.5.3.0). Since the database doesn't list locations, we cross-checked them against several English and German outlets.
| Class | Basic trainer and location | Entry contract | Advanced trainer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trooper | Ghavouri, Griffin's Reach Tradepost, southern Hagga Basin | Proving Grounds | Kara Valk, Arrakeen |
| Mentat | Samin Moro, Riftwatch (Harkonnen base) | poison-themed entry contract | Zayn de Witte, Arrakeen |
| Swordmaster | Arno, Pinnacle Station, Jabal Eifrit | Checking the Post | Seron Varlin, Harko Village |
| Bene Gesserit | Sister Mesa, Helius Gate, Eastern Shield Wall | The Missing Pieces | Jocasta Cleo, Harko Village |
| Planetologist | Derek Chinara, camp above Testing Station 2, southern Hagga Basin | Minimic Film Recovery | no second trainer, Chinara runs the whole line |
Getting to the two cities is cheaper than it used to be. Update 1.5 cut the taxi price to social hubs like Arrakeen and Harko Village to 500 Solaris, according to the official patch notes; trips to tradeposts cost 150. If you're short on cash, the Solaris farming guide lists the fastest income sources.
โ๏ธ The trainers of all five classes in detail
๐ช Trooper: Ghavouri and Kara Valk
Ghavouri stands just inside Griffin's Reach Tradepost in the southern Hagga Basin, which makes him the first trainer most players can reach. His contract is "Proving Grounds". One community wiki places the entry contract at a different tradepost instead, but the guides we checked agree on Griffin's Reach.
Kara Valk in Arrakeen hands out the advanced Trooper contracts. The database lists six of them, including "Seeking Control" and "A Shot at Improving".
๐ง Mentat: Samin Moro and Zayn de Witte
Funcom itself confirms the Mentat start: Samin Moro waits at Riftwatch, a Harkonnen base, and wants to see that you can craft and use poisons. In the database, Moro is the only basic trainer from House Harkonnen.
Zayn de Witte is the advanced Mentat trainer in Arrakeen, in a tavern according to press coverage. With eight contracts, his line is the longest of the city trainers, among them "Calculated Calamity".
๐ก๏ธ Swordmaster: Arno and Seron Varlin
You'll find Arno at Pinnacle Station in the Jabal Eifrit area. His entry contract is "Checking the Post". In Harko Village, Seron Varlin takes over with five contracts, among them "A Tormented Soul". How to spend your Swordmaster points well is shown in the Swordmaster build.
๐ Bene Gesserit: Sister Mesa and Jocasta Cleo
Sister Mesa stands at Helius Gate in the Eastern Shield Wall, an Atreides fortification. Her contract "The Missing Pieces" opens the school. The advanced trainer Jocasta Cleo lives in Harko Village and hands out five contracts, among them "Sacred Records".
๐ฑ Planetologist: Derek Chinara
The Planetologist is the exception. Derek Chinara has his camp above Testing Station 2 in the southern Hagga Basin and runs all eight of the class's contracts himself, starting with "Minimic Film Recovery". Later steps include "Buried Archives". According to press coverage, the line sends you to several testing stations, including No. 197 in the Western Vermillius Gap.
Planetologist skills mostly cover vehicles, gathering and the stillsuit, so Chinara is worth visiting no matter which class you started with. If you spend a lot of time in the ornithopter, you'll feel the benefit right away.
๐งญ Dune Awakening trainers: the best order
- Hagga Basin first: Ghavouri and Derek Chinara are both in the southern starting area and easy to reach early. The Planetologist adds comfort to any build.
- Then the basics of the class you want: Riftwatch, Pinnacle Station or Helius Gate, depending on which school fits your build.
- Bundle the cities: Kara Valk and Zayn de Witte are in Arrakeen, Seron Varlin and Jocasta Cleo in Harko Village. If you need both trainers in one city, you save a taxi fare.
- Don't do everything at once: advanced contracts are quest chains, not quick visits. Start with the school your current build really needs.
Which combinations of starting class and second school work best is covered in the best builds guide. Whether your faction matters is answered in which faction to choose: picking Atreides or Harkonnen changes contracts and guild, not your combat stats.
๐ก Tips for the contract chains
- Short start, long follow-up: the entry contracts are quick. The advanced chains stretch across several locations and fights.
- Prepare for Moro: according to Funcom, Samin Moro checks whether you can craft and use poisons. Plan materials and crafting time before you head to Riftwatch.
- Take the testing stations seriously: Chinara's chain leads through several testing stations with enemies waiting. Gear up like you would for a dungeon.
- Spend points with a plan: since Update 1.5, six active abilities (Crippling Strike, Deflection, Compel, Stop, Stunner and Weirding Step) have three ranks with falling cooldowns, per the official patch notes. In our view, that makes the extra points from the advanced chains worth more than before.
- Finished chain not ticked off? According to the patch notes, Hotfix 1.5.3.4 from September 24, 2026 fixed Trainer journeys not auto-completing after an update for players who had already finished the contracts. If yours is still stuck, first make sure your game is up to date.
๐ง Trainers in single player mode
You can reach every trainer solo too. The official patch notes for version 1.5.3.0 state that you can visit both Arrakeen and Harko Village in single player mode, so the four advanced trainers in the cities are available as well. The Update 1.5 patch notes don't list any change to trainers or skill trees specific to single player.
What else works differently solo is explained in the single player guide.
