- ✅ Bottom Line
Your Soulframe wolf companion starts out as a pup that you rescue in the quest “The Shewolf Snared” and take home to your Nightfold. Since Preludes 16 “Of Hook & Hound” you train it there across five stats, while in combat you make your wolf big through Orengall's Pact. As a mount, the full-grown animal only arrives later, “later this year” according to Digital Extremes.
This guide covers how to get the Soulframe wolf companion, how pup training works after Hotfix 4, what treats do and what Orengall's Pact can do in combat.
🐺 What Is the Soulframe Wolf Companion?
Soulframe has two things that both get called “the wolf”, and that's where the confusion comes from:
- The pup: a companion you take home to your Nightfold, your personal home base, after a story quest. Since Preludes 16 you train it there. According to Devstream 17 you can't name it yet.
- Orengall's Pact: a Pact, Soulframe's take on a class. This is the wolf you make big in combat, with spectral wolves and a wolf form of your own.
Both come from the same quest but fill very different roles. Anyone asking for a “strong” wolf almost always means the Pact.
📜 Getting Your Wolf Companion: “The Shewolf Snared”
You unlock the Soulframe wolf companion through the main quest “The Shewolf Snared”, added in Preludes 8:
- Follow the quest trail to Orengall, a captured Omen shewolf.
- Fight your way through the dungeon. In the longer southern section you rescue two of her three pups; the third is further north.
- After the last enemy camp, Orengall appears. You receive the fragment for her Pact and pick one of three pups.
You choose between Ciar, Cathal and Cuan, and according to the patch notes the choice is permanent. Devstream 17 adds that each pup has its own vocalizations.
🐶 Pup Training: Where Things Stand After Hotfix 4
You summon your pup through the Gear Wheel; otherwise it sleeps in the Nightfold. It has five stats with a cap of 5 points each, 15 points in total. Since Hotfix 4 on September 29, 2026 you allocate the points yourself: once a stat has enough training, press and hold “Add” in the pup's stat screen. Allocation is permanent.
| Stat | Trained by | Aura |
|---|---|---|
| Guts | fights | Stability, plus Courage |
| Speed | travelling together | movement speed |
| Endurance | playing fetch | Life, plus Grace |
| Curiosity | dungeons, chests | rarer items from Rare Chests |
| Heart | petting, fishing, rescuing animals | Spirit, plus more healing |
Temperament starting points (Ciar “Clever”: 2 Heart, 1 Curiosity; Cathal “Loyal”: 2 Guts, 1 Endurance; Cuan “Playful”: 2 Endurance, 1 Speed) are no longer assigned automatically since Hotfix 4. Only training costs energy; an exhausted pup sleeps for about five hours. Separately, the bond grows through six ranks from Wild to Soulbound.
All the details, playstyle suggestions and the icons that pop up over your pup are in our Soulframe wolf pup training guide.
🍖 Feeding Your Pup
First, the big misconception: feeding doesn't make your pup grow. Treats affect training, not size. Verminia makes two kinds: Canid Kibble (5 Plaited Freshfish, 2 Toe of Ode, 1 Clappie Pail) lowers energy use during training, and Canid Biscuits (5 Clappie Pail, 2 Jaden Drops, 1 Plaited Freshfish) boost learning for a short time. Too much of either makes your pup sluggish or causes a sugar crash. You carry at most 5 of each.
The fish ingredients come from Soulframe fishing, and according to the patch notes Ode'n hunters also drop food.
🐎 Will the Wolf Become a Mount?
Yes, it's announced. At TennoCon 2026 (Devstream 16, July 2026) Digital Extremes revealed mounts for Soulframe, and the first one is exactly this wolf. You raise your pup into a full-grown, rideable wolf, so the pup you pick today is your future mount.
⚠️ Not playable yet: Preludes 16 brought pup training, not riding. Digital Extremes says “later this year” but gives no date and no specific update. “Warsongs” is a separate, later Fable, and whether riding comes with it is not confirmed.
💪 “How Do I Make My Wolf Big?” Orengall's Pact
Until the mount arrives, Orengall's Pact is the real answer to that question. You get its fragment when you finish “The Shewolf Snared”. According to the community wiki on avakot.org, you then craft it at Tuvalkane:
| Requirement | Per community wiki |
|---|---|
| Bond | Rank 3 with Tuvalkane, the smith |
| Materials | 40 Scrap Steel, 50 Patch Leather, 15 River Pearl |
| Dracs | 5,000 |
| Crafting time | 27 hours |
⚠️ Don't sell it: according to the wiki, extra copies are only available in the Wares of Zenith for Arcs, not for Dracs.
⚔️ The Three Abilities
These values come from the community wiki, which derives them from its own testing:
| Ability | Virtue | Effect | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Werewalker | Courage | Wolf form for Courage + 40 seconds with extra speed. Attacking ends it: a finisher deals a flat 1,000 damage, against most bosses only 150. | 31 s |
| Packhunter | Spirit | Summons spectral wolves that draw aggro. More Spirit means more wolves and a longer duration; their damage rises noticeably with Grace. | 46 s |
| Howl | Grace | 30 seconds of extra Grace and higher Smite chance for you and allies, heals your wolves, turns enemy dogs friendly for 10 seconds | 46 s |
On top of that come two passives. Soulbound raises weapon damage for every nearby ally by 2 to 5 depending on points invested, capped at four allies for up to +20, and your spectral wolves count. Feral gives Orengall herself a chance to appear and kill a non-boss enemy outright.
📈 How to Make Your Wolves Stronger
- Spirit: more wolves from Packhunter. Per the wiki, at Pact rank 30 that's two wolves at 2 Spirit, three from about 12 and four from about 38. Duration goes up too.
- Grace: more wolf damage and a stronger Howl.
- Courage: a longer Werewalker form.
Older guides list “Akin” as if it were a stat that shortens cooldowns. Akin is a node in the Pact, not a virtue, and the per-point cooldown values from those guides are outdated.
🗡️ Combat Tips
- Tank on four paws: Packhunter wolves draw aggro and buy you room for Smite or ranged attacks.
- Use Werewalker on purpose: the finisher wipes almost any regular enemy in one go, but against bosses the form isn't worth much.
- Howl before the fight: Grace and Smite chance go up for the whole group, and Ode'n wardogs briefly switch sides.
- Strongest solo: alone you get the full value of your wolves and Soulbound.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions about the Soulframe Wolf Companion
Will the wolf become a mount?
Yes, Digital Extremes announced it at TennoCon 2026. There's no date yet; Preludes 16 only added pup training.
Can I make my pup grow by feeding it?
No. Treats only help with training: Canid Kibble lowers energy use, Canid Biscuits boost learning for a short time.
How do I train my pup?
Through fights, travel, fetch, chests and petting. Since Hotfix 4 you allocate the finished points yourself, up to 15, permanently.
Does my choice of pup matter for strength?
Barely anymore. Since Hotfix 4 temperament starting points are optional and you allocate all 15 points yourself. The choice itself is still permanent.
What makes my spectral wolves stronger?
Spirit for more wolves and longer duration, Grace for more damage, plus higher ability ranks.
✅ Bottom Line
The Soulframe wolf companion has three faces: the pup in your Nightfold that you've been able to train since Preludes 16, Orengall's Pact that calls a whole pack in combat, and the announced mount further down the line. Feeding doesn't make the pup grow; in combat your wolf gets big through the Pact, Spirit and Grace.
As of October 8, 2026, Preludes 16 with Hotfix 4. Checked against the official patch notes and hotfix notes on the Soulframe forums, the announcement on soulframe.com and Devstream 17. Pact costs and ability values come from the community wiki on avakot.org and are not officially confirmed. Soulframe is in pre-alpha, and values may change.
