Dune Awakening Augmentations: Crafting, Station, Slots and Costs

Dune Awakening augmentations are permanent add-ons that make a unique Plastanium-tier weapon or garment stronger for good. You craft them at the Advanced Weapons Fabricator or the Advanced Garment Fabricator, then attach them at the Augmentation Station.

This guide shows where schematics, Schematic Patterns and Regis Components come from, how many slots you unlock through the Crafting specialization and what an augmentation really costs in House Scrip.

โš™๏ธ How Dune Awakening augmentations work

Funcom added augmentations to Dune Awakening with Update 1.3. The official patch notes sum up the principle in three points: they only work on unique items of the Plastanium tier, they come in five quality grades, and once attached they can be neither removed nor changed.

  • Plastanium uniques only: Regular gear or lower tiers won't accept an augmentation.
  • Five grades: The grade sets the range of the bonus. A Grade 1 Blade Sharpener gives 2 to 8 percent melee damage, Grade 5 gives 48 to 70 percent.
  • Permanent: Once attached, the augmentation stays on the item. According to the community wiki, each augmentation lowers maximum durability by 2 percent.
  • Random roll: The game rolls the exact value within the range.

Update 1.5 changed that last rule. According to the 1.5.3.0 patch notes, stat rolls now follow more of a bell curve than an exponential curve. Good values show up more often, while the maximum stays rare.

๐Ÿ”— The three ingredients every augmentation needs

Besides water, Plastanium Ingots and Spice Melange, every recipe in Dune Awakening needs three things you can't simply mine. This is where most players get stuck. Other loot-only crafting parts are covered in our guide to components like the Ray Amplifier.

IngredientWhere it comes from
Schematic for the specific augmentationUltra-rare containers in The Old Quarry and the Imperial Testing Stations
Schematic Pattern, Grade 1 to 5Rare containers in the same dungeons, story rewards, recycling schematics
Regis ComponentCrafted yourself from Offworld Regis Compound

Schematics: According to the official Update 1.3 patch notes, they only drop in the Overland Map dungeons. Community databases list an 8.6 percent chance per ultra-rare container for most schematics, spread across The Old Quarry and Imperial Testing Stations No. 24, 89, 136, 152 and 195. Some schematics are more restricted: the Heavy Metal Blade Coating only drops in The Old Quarry.

Schematic Patterns: These sit in rare containers in the same dungeons, with a 34.7 percent chance at two to six Grade 1 patterns according to dune.gaming.tools. You also get them by recycling schematics of a certain grade, so duplicate schematics aren't junk.

Regis Components: You craft these at the Advanced Survival Fabricator. One run costs 1,200 water, one Offworld Regis Compound, five Silicone Blocks and five Cobalt Paste and gives you ten components.

๐Ÿ’ฐ What an augmentation costs in House Scrip

You buy Offworld Regis Compound from the Landsraad Crafting Vendor for 550 House Scrip, with a maximum of 25 in stock. You earn House Scrip through Landsraad missions. From that, you can work out the Scrip price of any augmentation.

AugmentationGradeRegis ComponentsCompoundHouse Scrip
Barrel Extender151 (half used)550
Woven Reinforcement3101550
Protective Coating53242,200

The component counts come from dune.gaming.tools, database version 1.5.3.0. The math behind it: one compound always gives you ten components. If you need 32, you have to process four compounds and keep eight components for the next recipe.

Scrip is rarely the bottleneck. What usually runs short are the schematics themselves, because each one drops with a single-digit percentage chance, and the higher-grade Schematic Patterns.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Example recipe: what Dune Awakening 1.5 made cheaper

Here's what a full recipe looks like, using Woven Reinforcement from Grade 3 at the Advanced Garment Fabricator, crafting time 15 seconds:

IngredientAmount
Water800
Plastanium Ingot23
Regis Component10
Spice Melange7
Plasteel Composite Armor Plating9
Spice-infused Plastanium Dust10
Ballistic Weave Fabric6
Schematic Pattern Grade 310

According to the patch notes, Update 1.5 includes a cost rebalance for Plastanium-tier recipes. The Grade 1 Barrel Extender shows what that means in practice. The values come from two database versions of dune.gaming.tools:

IngredientVersion 1.4.10.0Version 1.5.3.0
Water560420
Plastanium Ingot1312
Spice Melange54
Spice-infused Plastanium Dust76
Regis Component55
Schematic Pattern Grade 133

Water drops by a quarter, while the bottleneck ingredients, Regis Components and Schematic Patterns, stay the same. Spice Melange is still part of every recipe, even though the station itself has been built without spice since 1.5.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Building the station: costs since Update 1.5

The Augmentation Station is the Dune Awakening endgame building where you attach every augmentation. According to dune.gaming.tools at version 1.5.3.0, it costs 60 Plastanium Ingots, 75 Silicone Blocks, 40 Complex Machinery, 55 Cobalt Paste and 10 Advanced Machinery. The 1.5.3.0 patch notes confirm that Spice Melange was removed from the building cost of this endgame station.

Older community guides still list 75 Plastanium Ingots and 15 Spice Melange. That's the state before Update 1.5. Where the station fits into your layout is covered in our base building guide.

๐Ÿงช Slots through the Crafting specialization

How many augmentations an item can carry in Dune Awakening doesn't depend on the item but on you. The limit rises along the Crafting specialization track. The database lists three separate key skills for it:

LimitCrafting levelSpice Melange cost
Ranged Augmentation Limit1, 31, 8710 (level 31), 35 (level 87)
Melee Augmentation Limit3, 30, 882, 10, 35
Garment Augmentation Limit10, 422, 15

Added up, that gives you up to three augmentations on ranged and melee weapons and up to two on garments. This is derived from the database values; Funcom doesn't state the maximum explicitly. The Crafting track goes up to level 100.

๐ŸŽฏ Which Dune Awakening augmentations to craft first

The database lists 104 augmentations for Dune Awakening in four groups: 15 for garments, 11 for melee, 77 weapon-specific ones for ranged and one general one. Each ranged variant only applies to one weapon family, such as the Disruptor M11, Drillshot FK7 or Lasgun.

  • Blade Sharpener: The universal melee augmentation, available from Grade 1 and the obvious first pick for melee builds.
  • Heavy Metal Blade Coating: Same damage range as the Blade Sharpener, plus 50 percent volume. Since 1.5 available from Grade 3 instead of Grade 4.
  • Disruptive Coating: More shield damage for any ranged weapon, from Grade 2, plus 15 to 20 percent at Grade 5.
  • Barrel Extender: More range for any ranged weapon, plus 22 to 25 percent at Grade 5.
  • Protective Coating: Grade 5 only. Your item no longer loses durability when you die.

Before you spend a schematic, decide which weapon actually deserves it and which school your build follows.

๐Ÿ’ก Farming high grades in Dune Awakening

Officially, since Update 1.3: the higher the dungeon difficulty, the higher the chance at better-quality schematics. Update 1.5 shifted the curve. Grade 5 items and augmentations drop less often at Difficulty 20, and Grade 4 less often from Difficulty 27.

At the same time, the heavy enemy scaling now kicks in at Difficulty 30 instead of 20. For Grade 5 schematics, it's worth turning the difficulty up further than before.

โ“ Frequently Asked Questions about Dune Awakening augmentations

Can I remove an augmentation?
No. According to the official patch notes, augmentations can be neither removed nor changed once attached. Think about whether the item will stay your endgame piece before you commit.

Which items accept augmentations?
Only unique items of the Plastanium tier, meaning weapons and garments with unique status. Regular gear in Dune Awakening won't take an augmentation.

Where do I get Regis Components?
You craft them at the Advanced Survival Fabricator from Offworld Regis Compound. The Landsraad Crafting Vendor sells the compound for 550 House Scrip. One compound gives you ten components.

Why can't I find a Grade 5 schematic?
Schematics drop in Dune Awakening with a single-digit percentage chance, and since Update 1.5 the Grade 5 chance drops at Difficulty 20. Turn the difficulty up further and farm the Overland Map dungeons.

How many augmentations fit on a weapon?
That depends on your Crafting specialization. Based on the database values, it's up to three on weapons and two on garments, unlocked at fixed levels of the Crafting track.

Does every augmentation cost durability?
Yes. The community wiki puts the loss at 2 percent of maximum durability per augmentation. The official patch notes confirm the loss but give no number.
